The little ones haven’t escaped the new nest/play area beside the bed, but as the pictures show, a jailbreak into the rest of the condo is only a matter of time.

Apart from the cuteness of kittens, what’s on the agenda as we start another week?

Kittens in the morning are a good thing. Especially healthy little ones who are exploring their world.
It’s 68 F right now, I need to put on a sweater as it’s chilly. Maybe I should make some tea…

Cute. I need to pick up a rental car this morning, since some drunken wealthy lush plowed into the side of my car – while it was parked! Other than that, business as usual…

My work week is coming to an end in 82 minutes. That means it’s time to really crack down on revising Part II of the novel, which has really fallen behind schedule, in part due to procrastination, and in part due to working an insane number of shifts over the past few weeks. Even though my job consists largely of sitting around, trying to amuse myself in the long stretches between alarms, I’ve found that working more than four shifts a week means I don’t get any writing done.
Mustang Bobby
Back to reality after a weekend of theatre, including a leading lady who on Friday called in sick the day before opening night, which meant the director and I had to scramble to find a substitute. One was found, rehearsed, and then the original actor recovered to the point she was able to go on… as did the show. It was just a ten-minute piece, but wow, flop-sweat isn’t fun in Florida humidity. Both performances went well and now it’s on to the next play. The four words that both inspire and panic playwrights are “What else you got?”

In Australia tonight, I remember that some people overseas don’t always remember that we have a Westminster-style Parliamentary system here. The Prime Minister of Australia is chosen by the party with the majority, not the voters.
I mention this because there is a good possibility that Australia may have a new Prime Minister within the next hour or so, courtesy of a leadership challenge. If so, that would give us our fifth Prime Minister in as many years.

@Neil H: IIRC, the current PM is a bit of a wanker. Who’s on deck to replace him?
Mustang Bobby
@OzarkHillbilly: I didn’t either my first time out and I alienated the director to the point it destroyed our friendship. I learned to trust the play and let it go. A friend who has children compared it to raising them: at some point you have to let go and trust you’ve done a good job and they can stand on their own. Still, I watch and learn with every play and the panic has been slowly replaced by the thrill. I hope I never lose that.

Malcolm Turnbull, the guy who as Opposition leader was knifed in the back by Tony Abbott, the current PM and all round arsehole.
Turnbull is economically dry and socially liberal. At the moment he is frantically doing deals with the far right of his own party to not introduce same sex marriage or a sane climate change policy.

Tissue Thin Pseudonym
@Mustang Bobby: Yeah. As a writer, you have to learn that your part is only half of the whole job and other people are going to do things you don’t recognize with the things you create. Not only is that okay, it’s the way things should be. People need to take your words and make of them something that is important to them.

I don’t know why anyone anywhere wants a leadership position. It is nothing but worry and woe. And people are so weak. Just like the Bible says. I didn’t think that was true. But now I’m learning.

The kitty has to go to the vet for some dental work later in the week. She also has some kind of allergy (crusty gunk in her right ear) and she’s crying a lot lately.
I’ve got some meds for her (lotion for the ears and oral prednisone) that I’ve got to give her in the meantime.
Apart from that, I think I’ve finally got the hook for the course I’m developing so I should be able to knock out the high level design document today or tomorrow.

Well, we knew he was a despicable feudal-lord wanna-be already, this just proves it.
He wants to recreate the America of 1880, with work weeks of – lessee, what’s 7 x 12 = 84 hours, right? no OT pay, no vacation, no sick leave, no health care. What’s to hate about that plan?
I would hope that even for republicans this would put the man out of any consideration for future election to any office more challenging than, say, Koch-catcher, er, dog-catcher, or humane-officer we call them around here.
I bet even the working stiff members of that political party will eat it with a spoon, since it is what the bosses want, right? Right! I think I can afford to live OK in Spain, I think Canada might be too cold. How tough is it to get a resident permit for Canada, say, Vancouver?
Gimlet
The Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump on Sunday said high salaries paid to chief executives were a “joke” and a “disgrace”, often approved by company boards stacked with friends of such CEOs.
Trump also said his tax plan, to be unveiled in the coming weeks, would cut taxes for the middle class and corporations, “but for the hedge fund guys, they are going to be paying up”.
“It’s disgraceful,” he said. “Sometimes the boards rule but I would probably say it’s less than 10%; and you see these guys making enormous amounts of money. It’s a total and complete joke.”
Trump’s attack on corporate boards echoed the kind of criticism expressed by shareholder activists such as Carl Icahn, the billionaire investor who Trump has said he would like as his Treasury secretary should he become president.

Well, yeah, and I know that. What you call irony, or sarcasm, or sumthin like that. Pretty sad, though.
I started working the summer I was 14. I’ve been lucky to mostly have had good bosses, at least not malicious bastards. But not everyone has that kind of luck. I know people who had bosses that would stand behind them and watch them work, hoping to see something they could lay into them over.
That’s the kind of boss Walker is. And he wants to make it impossible for anyone to protect themselves from oppressive and odious management. Impossible to work together to get raises and better benefits. He thinks as governor of a state he should be a feudal lord, with no one to tell him NO, you can’t do that.
Repulsive, is what he is. Un-American, as well.

Why should having two candidates that people like keep Democrats up at night? People in her campaign may be nervous (though I would hope they understand enough about polling at this stage not to be), but I don’t see how Hillary not dominating the primaries is a worrisome sign for the general.
OzarkHillbilly
@J R in WV: Figures, but of course you knew the one I was shooting for. Fillmore East is the greatest album ever**. I wore out my vinyl copy long before I lost all my albums in my divorce. Funny story about that. My ex unknowingly sold them to the ex husband of a friend of mine (they were on good terms) for crack money. When he figured out who they belonged to he offered to sell them to me for what he paid. I told him to keep them and enjoy, at that point I was pretty foot loose and had no place for them and even less to play them on.
**OK OK- Dark Side of the Moon is the greatest album ever, but Fillmore East is the greatest LIVE album ever.

@Redshift: That’s what I think.
Democrats have an embarrassment of riches from which to choose.
Republicans just have an embarrassment.
And Trump, nominally a Republican, is making more sense and is more tethered to the real world than any of their Petri dish ideologues.
Meanwhile, the NY Times worries that Jeb! might be too cerebral for the debates. (Cervantes posited they were actually going for “cerebroid” — appearing, rather than being.)
TS
@JPL:
As a vague comparison – If the US had a Westminster parliamentary system – Boehner would be the PM. The leader of the majority party in the lower house (House of Reps in Australia, Commons in the UK) becomes the Prime Minister and is the Leader of the Government.
The party leader can be challenged at any time – usually only happens when the challenger has the numbers – or close to the numbers – to defeat the leader. After a challenge there is usually a party room meeting where the leadership is declared vacant & a ballot is held.
This was the second time Malcolm Turnbull has challenged Abbott. And prior to that Turnbull was the leader when the party was in opposition & Abbott challenged him & won the leadership. Could be something here related to “do unto others”
Only downside with Turnbull as leader is that his party has more chance of winning the next election. No way could Abbott have won. Turnbull is very right wing on the economy, more to the left on social issues. Believes in climate change and supports same sex marriage.

I replied that George was the confident eldest son, and that for years he had learned to deal with his supposedly smarter brother, Jeb.
