Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

A Senator Walker would be an insult to the state and the nation.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

Everybody saw this coming.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Second rate reporter says what?

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

Being the leader of the world means to be the leader of peace.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the GOP

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

HLN Anchor Trolled So Hard (Open Thread)

HLN anchor Yasmin Vossoughian brought a “Snowden supporter” on her show to discuss whether or not Twitter should ban Edward Snowden, who recently started tweeting. The supporter, Jon Hendren (Twitter handle: @fart) says Edward shouldn’t be cast out just because he was created by Vincent Price on a mountain and has scissors instead of hands:

I love how the host just goes on about Snowden after Hendren’s comments about Scissorhands sculpting shrubbery and poking holes in waterbeds. Either she doesn’t hear a thing he says or just doesn’t know how to respond except by continuing to read the script. Well done, Mr. Hendren.

    http://www.chaunceydevega.com/2015/08/beyond-cuckservative-right-wings-racial.html

Sexual fantasies wherein white men are cuckolded by black men — with their stereotypically large penises (called “BBC” for “big black cocks” in the parlance of porn) and ravenous at the thought of white female flesh — are then consistent with a centuries-old white male preoccupation, one that borders in fact on obsession, with the supposed threat of Black male virility. We see in the fascination with cuckolding the most feverish anxieties about the disappearance of white male hegemony.

(Paradoxically, this genre also positively reaffirms white supremacy; in the interracial “BBC” scenario, the white racial frame’s assumption that white women are desired above all other women is made explicit.)
So it is clear why the genre is popular: The combination of fetish and racial entitlement are, for a certain segment of white American men, an almost alchemical admixture.

Here is something to chew on. The prosecutor in the Aurora Theater Shooting trial, who rejected a guilty plea with life in prison, no chance of parole to pursue a death penalty case, even though some of the families did not want this and then lost the death penalty phase, has decided NOT to run for office.

Because it was clear this was the only reason he put our state through this horrible, gut-wrenching trial. Not to mention the money it cost the city of Aurora – which could have been put to use in, oh, I don’t know, mental health care for victims, first responders and people suffering from mental illness.

Hopefully there ends all future political aspirations for this creep.

    Ovewr on Huffington :

Dozens of Secret Service personnel inappropriately accessed private information on a member of Congress who was conducting oversight of the agency, in a pattern the Department of Homeland Security’s watchdog called “deeply disturbing.”
The DHS Inspector General on Wednesday released the results of an investigation into who leaked information about how Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), who conducts oversight of the Secret Service, had been rejected for a position in the agency years ago.

The Congresscritter is outraged at this improper conduct and breach of his privacy.

Several things come to mind and in no particular order of importance:
    1. nice to see him hoist on his own petard
2, the secret service people responsible should be fired. The conduct is inexcusable even if the ‘victim’ is a GOOPER.
    3. Where is his outrage at the doctored Planned Parenthood tapes or the lies about Sherley Sherrod.
    4. Like the rest of the GOOPERS he has no problem leaking derogatory information about Hillary Clinton
5, and like the rest of the GOOPPERS he has no problem with warrentless wiretaps and the NSA sweeping up everyone else s phone messages.

So while what the secret service did is wrong I’am willing to listen to the smallest possible violins about his plight.

From a Daily Beast interview with the guy (who is very well known in Weird Twitter world):

“I have absolutely no idea how they picked me or why,” Hendren told The Daily Beast. “I just got an email last night asking me to Skype into HLN and I agreed to it immediately.”
    …

“They never told me what the format would be and never prepped me with the questions beforehand, I just knew I wanted to talk about a much-maligned hero,” he said.

He still hasn’t watched his quick hit, but Hendren’s appearance has since gone viral. And why not? Nothing really highlights how inane the news has become like someone actively trying to fuck up an entire TV show only to have his point proven by talking points hamfistedly steamrolling over his responses…

I am sorry but no one would explain why they would not treat a car for fleas. Company Policy was the only explanation I could get. However, one place was willing to tell me what to do. In case it ever happens to you, here’s what to do: vacuum car thoroughly. This moves the fleas to come out and see what’s to eat, and thus puts them at ground zero. Using a powder containing an adulticide and an Insect Growth Regulator, dust under the mats and down in the seat crevices. Wear mask, gloves, and long sleeves. Then spray the seats, under seats, and upholstery with either Ultracide or Precor. Close the car up and let it sit for a couple of hours to a couple of days, the longer the better. Air overnight. Vacuum daily with the big old high-suction hose at the car wash. You may get a few odd hatchlings after a week or so depending on how many eggs were in the car. If so, spray again, close up, air.

Pyrethins can make dogs or cats, I forget which, sick, so check with your vet on how soon you can put the pet back in the car. Pyrethins are safe for people once they’ve dried and of course IGRs affect no one but bugs.

As long as I’m stuffing powder down the seats I’m going to add a little borax. I got conflicting opinions on whether it works on fleas but it certainly can’t hurt.

I suspect that no one will treat your car for fleas because it’s an enclosed space and it’s unhealthy to be in an enclosed space for a long, long time after being treated for fleas. (using chemicals)

Have you looked into anything like diatomaceous earth? That’s good for squash beetles and many more pests and it is very safe. I have no idea if it works on fleas, but it might be worth looking into.

@lamh36: If I see anything that might be of use for you, I’ll post it…but I gotta tell you, on military, national security, and foreign intelligence matters, I usually work hard to ignore first reports (e.g., “breaking news”), because most folks with a big microphone are so desperate for ratings that they’ll have on “analysts” who will want to be paid whether they know anything or not (they usually don’t), so will go with a combination of dramatic and politically acceptable conventional wisdom, while keeping things sufficiently vague that they cannot be pinned down later for what they said.

Of the few who might know something and make themselves available to the media, there’s a good chance you’re gonna get a lot of spin.

I usually wait two or more weeks, at which point the truth starts to dribble out. At that point you need to actually seek out the story, because the public and its media have long moved on.

Having seen what Putin is capable of, I can entirely believe that he is specifically limiting his attacks to more Western-friendly Assad foes – the few that are left – since that would both help Assad and be a giant Fuck You! to the U.S. But that would also be desirable spin on the part of the U.S. Administration. As much as I like our current President, I’ll never trust him or anyone else in that office where early reports on something like this are concerned; it’s more the nature of that Office than who occupies it.

If you don’t at least in the Dem process you get a proportional voice. In time that could move the gawddamm overton window. If you don’t win you want to make sure you haven’t said or done something you can’t take back, swallow your misgivings and do what you can to defeat the gooper forces of evil. The grand jury, according to a court filing, found that Glanz had violated policy by allowing his friend Bates to volunteer and serve as a reserve deputy and carry weapons even though he had not been adequately trained.

Bates was also allowed to carry weapons not authorized by the department, including the .38-caliber revolver with which he killed Harris.

@efgoldman: Nobody on the Bernie side is going to stay home or run as third party. Leave that to Trump. Bernie originally got into the thing solely to move the Overton Window and sway Hillary.

I will never give Hillary or the Democrats a dime at this point. We’re going for broke and we’re not done and Bernie will be perfectly fine as a President. But in the event that wall street money and establishment politics still controls our world, Right to Rise is also correct, and we end up seeing Clinton Vs Bush, I’ll throw up in my mouth a little and then go do my duty.

Is it so hard to believe that we need a hell of a lot better than that? But WE are not psycho teabagger purity trolls.

Me saying I won’t give Clinton a dime is not being a purity troll, either. She is proud of all the banker money she’s taking and is the mirror image of RtR, with that ‘it’s all about the Benjamins!’ argument. If that’s true we’re fucked, but we’re fucked-er with that AND Republicans fresh from driving Boehner out.

I don’t think it’s a good time for well-trodden establishment Village answers, but there’s a system and Bernie’s got over a million donors already BECAUSE we’re working within that system, not blowing it up. Again, let the teabaggers blow up their system. If we do get Bush vs Clinton, Hillary will wipe out Jeb, and then we will immediately have to deal with another Republican Lite in the Oval Office. That’s all we freakin’ need o_O

Just to wrap up (maybe?) how @fart ended up on TV. From New York Magazine:

On Wednesday afternoon, HLN anchor Yasmin Vossoughian wanted to provide some in-depth analysis of Snowden’s recent decision to create a Twitter account. Earlier in the day, former New York governor and nominal GOP presidential candidate George Pataki tweeted:

@Twitter is a great American company that should not give a platform to terrorists or traitors – @Jack shutdown @Snowden today.
    — George E. Pataki (@GovernorPataki) September 29, 2015

To test the governor’s argument, Vossoughian decided to run it by prominent Twitter user John Hendren. Unfortunately, her staff did not book John Hendren (@johnhendren), the Al Jazeera journalist, but rather Jon Hendren (@fart), comedian and troll.

That actually sounds plausible – one missed letter in a name can certainly screw things up in this modern digital age.
