Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

Let me file that under fuck it.

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

The Giant Orange Man Baby is having a bad day.

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

People are complicated. Love is not.

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

No one could have predicted…

“woke” is the new caravan.

The arc of the moral universe does not bend itself. it is up to us to bend it.

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Come on, man.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

Game six of the American League Championship Series is coming up, featuring the adorable, fun-loving, personable and charismatic David Price as starting pitcher for the Jays. So GO JAYS!

While awaiting the start of the game, I’ve been listening to representatives from the vast political strategist army opine on CNN and MSNBC about the state of the primaries. They played a clip from Trump’s appearance on ghostly apparition Hugh Hewitt’s show, in which Trump expressed doubt about the polls showing Carson ahead in Iowa. A Trump surrogate then appeared on CNN and conducted a Romneyesque unskewing of the polls.

Trump is supposed to appear at a rally in Miami shortly. It’ll be interesting to see how the humidity affects his elaborate combover.

Rachel Maddow interviewed Hillary Clinton today, and that will air at 9 PM ET. At a rally in Virginia today, Clinton echoed Joe Biden’s comment from a couple of days ago and said Democrats should be proud of President Obama’s record and should run on it.

Maddow was on Hardball and said she thinks the most interesting part of the interview was Clinton’s answer to Maddow’s question about how a Hillary Clinton presidency would differ from Obama’s. That should be fascinating.

So that’s what I’m doing — watching TV on a Friday night like a boring old woman. You?

Pretty much the same, probably without the boring old woman part.

Not sure who I’m rooting for in the ALCS. A Jays win puts Mets fans who are also Duke fans in a potentially very awkward position: in the event of a Harvey vs. Stroman matchup, do you root for the Tar Heel/Met or the Blue Devil/Blue Jay.

According to ESPN, Stroman and Matz once faced each other in a high school game. Matz’ team won, 1-0, and the two pitchers combined for 26 Ks in a seven-inning game.

Hoping the Jays can tie it up tonight. If they win the pennant, I am obliged to root for them in the World Series (my Canadian loyalties outweigh my New York loyalties); if the Royals win the ALCS, however, I’ll be a Mets fan for the duration of the WS (I have absolutely no Kansas City loyalties).

Really looking forward to the HRC interview.

Did Redshift ever put up his experience at the Hillary Clinton event today?

    Here’s the WaPost recap.

They had a glorious day for it. I just did not want to get caught up in the traffic and parking.

Here’s the end of the Post story. Made me smile. Go girl power.

She’s a survivor,” said Elena Katsos, a government contractor who lives in Old Town Alexandria. She and a friend had pulled their 7-year-old daughters out of school to attend the early afternoon event. As they waited for Clinton to take the stage, the girls drew pictures of the candidate in crayon, along with slogans like “Go Hillary Clinton” and “Go, go, go.”

“This is history in the making,” Katsos said. “For us, it’s the theme of girl power.”

I can’t think of another candidate who had that much complete bullshit thrown at her campaign, either. Of course that’s the key to a lot of her success this month: the bullshit that was being piled up against her was shown to be bullshit rather than anything real. If people weren’t making up so much bullshit to hold her back, she wouldn’t have needed to rebound.

@Trentrunner: On the downside, can you think of a scarier set of GOP candidates? They’re certifiable.

I do sort of remember the Goldwater campaign. (I was a child.)

But no one ever thought George Wallace might get elected. This year, his successor with his own private plane is a frontrunner.

(PS: I am not sure Trump is personally prejudiced. I think he’s noticed red meat is what the GOP base thrives on and knows throwing it will get acclaim. Also, Geo. Wallace seems to have softened, greatly, in his dotage. But his years as governor hurt many African Americans and other citizens….)

Her sales of the photos helps to pay for the cam and her fostering costs. She was fostering for LAPS (Langley Animals Protection Society) but currently she is concentrating on socializing the kittens of feral or semi-feral cats at a local colony. The momcats and other ferals are being fixed and then returned to the wild. The colony is on private land and the owner is cooperating with the TNR program.

@Gin & Tonic: Sounds more to me like Ma and Pa and Big Brother are going to stick their noses even further into the mess and make it worse, lecturing poor Jeb? with nonsense while their doing it. One could feel sorry for Jeb? if he had not made himself a threat to the country’s welfare by running for president.

OTOH, I like the comparison of Jeb? to McCain, and hope it is a good one. I’ll feel a little sorry for Jeb? when he suspends his campaign over some crisis, pretends like he is the wise man everyone should listen to, and then sits there, slack jawed and stumped, when he’s asked about what to do.

But I think McCain is a lot smarter than Jeb?, so not sure Jeb? can match up, except for the slack jawed and stumped part.

Any Apple gurus here? I have a number of very irritating default behaviors of the latest upgrades to the iOS and OS X, that I’ve been trying to fix one by one.

The one that currently has me stuck is that my iPhone suddenly stopped downloading photos to the computer when plugged in. It used to do that automatically, and the photos would show up in a “Dropbox” folder in the Finder.

With no action by me, that stopped suddenly about a week ago, and nothing I’ve tried doing can make it happen again. It happened in fact while on vacation. I can see the photos up to 10-13, and then after that nothing.

About 3,500 people were evacuated from the state of Jalisco, which encompasses Puerto Vallarta and the Guadalajara metro area, ahead of the storm, the government said. Aircraft were prepared to rescue people from the region on Saturday.

How many people can be rescued by an airplane? Maybe if AirForce One is taken over by terrorists.

@catclub: 747 can take 400, so 10-15 flights could do it.

    Which people? Oh, never mind.

@Doug R: What i was thinking was that after the storm goes through, the airports will be closed for repair, and rescue by aircraft seemed pretty useless to me. But maybe there is a better chance for airports than mud washed out roads.

@PurpleGirl: My wife and I could watch the TinyKittens all day. We especially love the kitten pile, mainly because our two cats really just tolerate each other.

@Rising Above: How is that reframing of the Benghazi committee hearing that you promised from Rush/Drudge coming along?

    Jeb exudes a happy confidence.

Hillary exudes FUD after Benghazi and the emails and now the #BlumenthalConnection

Even if the MSM wants to spin it to make this neutral, Rush and Drudge will take care of that tomorrow. Period.

@Corner Stone: As others have said, get the commercial stuff. Reynolds used to make one that had the same stuff; but I think they quit.

It won’t be popular here, but the Walmart brand is also made of whatever the commercial stuff is, it clings like nobody’s business. When you seal it on a dish & then microwave whatever it is, the film stretches like a bubble; it’s pretty cool.

Cling Wrap the brand is one step up from using kleenex to wrap food. Complete crap.

Can you use Press ’n’ Seal in the microwave? A lot of people seem to like that.

@Steeplejack: I’m not sure, I’ve never bought it. My mom uses it, but not in the microwave.
