A World Series thread and a debate thread?
Now I wish I had PiP for iPad.

deGrom needs to pitch well and into the 7th or 8th. The relievers on both teams are spent after last night.
Betty Cracker
@efgoldman: I had to get up at 6 AM to schlep my kid across town in the pouring rain. Was NOT happy!
Wylie
It seems that everyone is a Mets fan here, but surely there are a few of us rooting for the Royals.
Looking forward to a hairy game tonight.
Let’s go Royals!
Schlemazel
I hear Bleeding Gums Murphy over-performed then anthem tonight
Eric S.
@Wylie: I’m a neighbor of Wrigley Field. A Cardinals fan by trade. And rooting for the Royals this series. I may not be the pure blood you’re looking for but I stand with you for now.

Cueto is looking strong early. Unfortunately.
Gin & Tonic
Only other time I can recall the name Wilmer is that hired gun in The Maltese Falcon.
FlyingToaster
@Wylie: Oh, we Royals fans are here, don’t you worry.
When I was a teenager, we used to fill a car with 4 or 5 kids, drive out to Royals Stadium, sit in the right field bleachers (right next to the home team bullpen), and have the time of our young lives. It was the cheapest entertainment in town ($1.50 for bleacher seats, $1.50 to park, 75¢ cokes and $1.50 frosty malts). We had an hour to get home after the game ended; my dad was listening to it on AM and knew when it went to 14 innings. And it all-too-often did, even back in the 70s.
I gave up last night at the 8th inning. I have to get up and get WarriorGirl to school — so we’ll see how long past 10:30 tonight I last.
FlyingToaster
@Gin & Tonic: The guy who played Fez on “That 70’s Show”.
Bailey
True Blue Kansas City native here, rooting like hell for the Royals!

I agree with the announcers (for once), the Ump’s strike zone has been pretty inconsistent and it’s confusing the pitchers and hitters.
Wylie
Hey, it’s great to see a couple of other Royals fans.
I’ve always loved the “K” – such a beautiful park. I can’t begin to count the number of games I’ve attended. I think I’ve been in just about every section except right behind home plate.
One of my cherished childhood memories is sitting behind home dugout with my dad and grandpa, watching “Big John” Mayberry on 1st playing up to the crowd. He’s still one of my all-time favorite players.
So, I go waaaay back as a Royals fan.
In not too distant years, people laughed at me when I said that the Royals were my team. (I wasn’t in KC) They’re not laughing now…
Come on, Royals!
philpm
Another KC native and fan here. I grew up just a couple of miles from Kauffman, and spent many an evening there while in college.
rikyrah
I don’t like either team :(
FlyingToaster
@rikyrah: Not a problem.
The WS is still more entertaining than CNBC tonight.
And I’m informed that TCM is running cartoons right now ;)
philpm
Jesus H Christ does this strike zone suck tonight.
Smedley Darlington Prunebanks (formerly Mumphrey, et al.)
Let’s go, Mets?! The hell with that. I’m pulling for the Royals.
FlyingToaster
@efgoldman: No, they want ratings, so they’re paying for Disney cartoons :)
Betty Cracker
Nice job, deGrom!
FlyingToaster
@efgoldman: I am steadfastly refusing to let WarriorGirl go to Fenway. I’ll drive to effing Pawtucket (now that the team’s not moving), but I am NOT exposing her to the drunken louts that currently attend Sox games.
dedc79
@Betty Cracker: He stays so freaking calm, even when his fielders fail to make plays. Or at least he looks like he is calm.
FlyingToaster
@Betty Cracker: I have to admit, the Mets’ pitcher is definitely the bomb.
Mary G
Joe Buck must die. I have been listening to Vin Scully since 1958 and these Fox clowns hurt my heart and ears.
philpm
DeGrom seems to be losing it at this point.
dedc79
@philpm: Clearly I jinxed him.
Wylie
I’m working in my office and the rest of the family is downstairs watching on the big screen so I can Wooohooo! all I want to.
The 5th was awesome…
(And sorry, you all, but you’re getting the enthusiasm tonight LOL)
Woohoo!
Let’s Go Royals
Duane

Finally got the game on because my oldest kid had a middle school evening activity and we’ve been working on Halloween costumes since we got home. Staying the hell away from the debate. Let’s go, Mets!
DemJayhawks
Let’s go Royals!
benw
Nice play!
FlyingToaster
Woot!
philpm
Starting to become a rout now.
benw
@philpm: yep. Getting a little out of hand.
FlyingToaster
Is there anyone left in the Mets bullpen?
NeutronFlux
I hope Betty Cracker puts up a go Mets post every game day.
Wylie
YAY! Cueto rocked it tonight.
philpm
Wow, that was impressive: offense, defense and pitching was outstanding! Two more to go guys!
Duane

@FlyingToaster:
Currently? You don’t think Fenway has been filled with drunken louts nigh on 100 years?
It’s far, far, far better now than it used to be in the Olden Tymes. For example, they’ve completely abandoned the practice of coating vomit in sawdust – now they mop it up.
gratuitous
Well, it wasn’t 14 innings; not even nine full. You’re welcome, Mets fans. I hope you all had a good night’s sleep.
Hee, hee, hee.
