Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Come on, man.

He really is that stupid.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

Books are my comfort food!

An unpunished coup is a training exercise.

We’re not going back!

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

The line between political reporting and fan fiction continues to blur.

Cole is on a roll !

Fani Willis claps back at Trump chihuahua, Jim Jordan.

“I never thought they’d lock HIM up,” sobbed a distraught member of the Lock Her Up Party.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

T R E 4 5 O N

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Usually wrong but never in doubt

And we’re all out of bubblegum.

Here in MDT it’s still National Cat Day and I cannot believe our blog host has not provided us with Steve proof-of-life. I will do my best to distract you from everything with my fuzz buds.

My accidental Maine Coon. Sweet little guy, still wonders why the hell we have a dog.

Em when she was little. She’s not much bigger now, but don’t tell Bixby.

And of course my very own Panther – if not in true color, in attitude, for sure.

Not to be left out – Bixby.  Gettin’ his chew on. I actually posted a new update for him today, here.

How did you celebrate National Cat Day? Was proper attention given? What’s up tonight?

Consider this your spin-free zone open thread.

    Critters!

Met a 5 mo-old ridgeback puppeh tonight I basically wanted to steal and take home. Don’t see them often and this little fella had such an engaging personality. Paws like catcher’s mitts and he liked to shake–“Put ‘er there, pal.”

Our cat is curled up snoozing at the end of the bed. As always I will try not to disturb him when I stretch out.

I could use a cat or two. I spent National Cat Day writing about pet handling and medical topics and reviewing the footage from last weekends shoot and making plans to grab some b-roll footage over the weekend. Thankful I have a camera, but I know it’s not going to match the 5D A cam and the hacked B cam. Oh well. I’m the post production guy too. And still deliberating this dating thing. Not a good sign if I can’t even decide to say “I like toast”. Do I really want people to know I like toast? what if they’re serial killers? Who use toast?

We have a photo of the late Oreo sitting possessively on-or in-every suitcase, duffel and satchel my wife used. She did not want to be left out of the fun.

Love Em, but I’m a sucker for torties and calicos.

@SWMBO: he is 150 lbs, 34″at his shoulders and about 6’1″-ish on his hind legs. Probably another thirty pounds and 36″at shoulders when he is fully grown.

We abandoned our cats on National Cat Day to go to a screening of “Son of Frankenstein.” If you ever wondered why Gene Wilder has a skinny mustache in “Young Frankenstein,” your first glimpse of Basil Rathbone in “Son” will answer the question.

@ruemara: It’s probably safe to say you like toast. Might want to avoid jams and jellies discussions at first, though. Good lord, it’s been ages since I went on a date (been married forever), but I remember the anxiety surrounding it.

If I had it to do all over again, I’d worry less and have more fun. It’s necessary to be cautious, of course — I mean worry less about never finding the right person. You’re a smart, funny and good person; that even comes across on the Internet. Someone will be lucky to find you.

I was surprised by this. I think it’s early and I assumed he would wait:

Sherrod Brown, Ohio’s senior senator in Washington who ran and won in 2006 and again in 2012, endorsed Hillary Rodham Clinton for president Tuesday.

But Ohio also has a competitive Senate race in ’16 and Obama and Brown (basically) ran together in 2012 which worked out well for both of them so maybe it makes sense that way.

    Cermet

So, the Senate passed the budget bill last night; on President Obama’s desk and zero doubt it gets signed. So, President Obama proves again that he is the Man.
Still not fully clear on how this handles the later budgets for the full 18 months (debt ceiling yes, official budget, no; does this come back to be cleared next year in which case, couldn’t it be blocked?)

No, no, no – it proves the House & Senate are full of a bunch of RINOs who are allowing the Muslim, communist, atheist, Hitler, Stalin destroyer of worlds ruin this once great land! It proves that Republicans simply cannot be trusted to do what is right when needed and that the people need a new party, one devoid of the weak-willed sniveling wimps. I’m encouraging the wingnuts I know to understand this because it is important for the nation; A GOP minus 27% clears both them and the wingnut party from meaningful office

    @BillinGlendaleCA:

He runs really good campaigns and I mean “runs” – he rejected the DC plan for his first Senate campaign and hired his own people and came up with his own approach. At the time (2006) it was held up as a “how liberals can win in 50/50 states”. It’s an interesting combo- really aggressive and competitive and very liberal- because the caricature of liberals is as these inept campaigners, or that’s how liberals were portrayed here by Democrats who are more conservative. If it’s strategic then that’s good because he’s good at politics.

Trade matters here more than in does in a lot of other states- it has almost an outsize role among a certain segment of very active Democrats. They get attention because what they think matters – the elections are so close that Democrats need them. Strickland (the Senate candidate) will attack Portman (the incumbent Senator) on trade and this is complicated by Obama’s trade deal and Clinton’s support of that trade deal. I’m dreading the dancing around she’s going to have to do, because they really understand the issue- they can recite the trade deals of the past 25 years and the subsequent betrayals. It’s a mistake to think it’s knee jerk- they know more about the deals than probably 99% of the voting population :)

Anyway, Brown will be a huge help to her there because they trust him.

Every day is Cat Day here at the Tango Palace of Restorative Love for all Animals – Especially Cats! And Dogs!

I have provided a shoulder for sharpest cat to drape herself over whilest purring and kneading with the world’s sharpest kitty claws! I have opened doors at 2 and 4 am for kitties to come and go in the moonlit darkness!

I have been very still in bed so as to not disturb the restful slumber of kitty buried in the feathers of the winter comforter, which we got out yesterday, as it was 37 last night, and we like to have a window open a crack for the fresh air.

(You know what I mean, I mean two big dogs producing waste gas!) Open window or die!

Kitties and puppies rule our tiny world. Thanks be to puppies and kitties!
