"Yeah, I am, I’m having a blast," – Jeb! on if he's having fun. https://t.co/46D8pNr7p0

— Andrew Kaczynski (@BuzzFeedAndrew) October 30, 2015

From the NYTimes:

It is a portrait of deep frustration. Jeb Bush’s campaign has 10 paid staff members in Iowa, it has made 70,380 phone calls to state Republicans and it has collected 5,000 email addresses. For all that, it has recruited just four volunteers statewide and has identified only 1,260 supporters…

On Saturday, both [Bush and Rubio] will appear with eight other Republican candidates at a forum in Des Moines. Iowa, the state with the first nominating contest, has been rocky terrain for Mr. Bush because of its large evangelical bloc and hostility to mainstream politicians…

The ghost of Teri Schiavo has zero fvcks to spare for you, Gov. Bush.

Jeb: “I knew this would be a long journey, but to suggest that the campaign is terminal, come on. That’s pretty funny.”

    Walking around campus this morning, I saw a student wearing an …interesting costume. A Jeb! button, a home-made sign with the RNC elephant logo, and a diaper.

    Not really sure what to make of it. Commentary on the cry-baby nature of the modern Republican party, or maybe just someone dressing up as Senator Vitter.

    And just think, Jeb? is the ‘organized’ GOPer.

    I can’t find the website right now that I have been following that has the details on campaign ground organizations, but I remember HRC had almost 30 paid Iowa staffers in charge of recruitment and organization earlier this summer, and Sanders was building up to get close to HRC as fast as he could. HRC campaign has no problem recruiting volunteers, and Sanders is turning them away since numbers are outrunning his ability to manage. His campaign is getting contact info to bring them in when organization builds out and can handle them.

    This is a Democratic advantage of actually running real political campaigns rather than focusing on a media freak show in the primaries.

    And as I noted in a previous thread today, the new heart throb Rubio is going light on ground organization, following the Romney road. most of his organization is volunteers, and somehow they will be effective in doing the grunt work when the time comes to actually get people to vote or caucus.

    Edit: I think maybe Trump is catching up on actually organizing, but will have to find that website that has an updated listing of all the paid staff and field offices. Anyone know which one I am talking about? (Damn, I am so unorganized about bookmarking and that stuff. I rely too much on my spontaneous search-fui)

It will preserve the superficial appearance of previous debates without the chance of any unpleasant questions. No guarantee ¿Jeb? will be able to come up with clever answers, of course.

    @jl: Clinton pulled in slightly less cash ($77MM compared to $81MM) than Bush, Carson and Cruz, the top 3 Republican fundraisers combined. And apparently a lot of Carson’s expenditure is on actual fundraising/consultants.

    Bush btw must have run into some serious issues with fundraising recently. He raised $24MM last quarter, spend $14MM and has $10MM on hand. You’d expect that he could make February quite comfortable with those numbers, and there would be no need to make the cuts he is making now, unless his fundraising has completely collapsed.

    Kepp me in your thoughts, Juicers. Tomorrow morning I begin the drive back to California from Atlanta.
    Driving a 26′ truck & towing my car. Alone. At my very advanced age. It’s making me nervous as hell.
    I haven’t done this in 20 years (and felt too old for it THAT time.) Lack of money makes you do crazy shit.
    No way I could afford to hire somebody to do the driving. Paying to pack the truck was all I could manage.
    So, I’m off on Halloween morning. And, there’ll be no backing up. I’ve never figured out how to do that with a carrier or something going in another direction. I’m going forward only! If backing up is necessary I’ll wait till an actual truck driver comes by and beg him to do it.
    I’m dreading this trip but you do what you gotta do, I guess.
    Hopefully, I’ll keep you posted.

    Speaking of TCM tonight, my Lewton recommendations are:

    “Cat People” (8 pm ET)
    “Val Lewton: Man in the Shadows” (Martin Scorsese’s documentary – 9:30
    PM ET)
    “The Leopard Man” (12:15 am ET)
    *”The Body Snatcher” (2:45 am ET)*

    “The Body Snatcher” is the best of the three Lewton movies Boris Karloff starred in, but “Isle of the Dead” and “Bedlam” aren’t bad.

    If you have to choose only one from tonight’s lineup, go with “Body Snatcher.”

    Those who have looked into Marco’s background in the past have been concerned with what they have found.

    This is from ¿Jeb?’s slides. This is why Romney didn’t even bother to vet him.

    Even before the Republicans chose a presidential nominee it was widely assumed that Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., would be at the top of anybody’s list of vice presidential candidates. The reasons are obvious: Not only is he young, charismatic and wildly popular with conservatives, but he could also help Republicans win a key state (Florida) and make inroads with Hispanics.

    But knowledgeable Republican sources tell me that Rubio is not being vetted by Mitt Romney’s vice presidential search team. He has not been asked to complete any questionnaires or been asked to turn over any financial documents typically required of potential vice presidential candidates.

    a whispering campaign has spread in Washington suggesting that Rubio may look good on paper, but he cannot “pass vet” for the vice presidential nomination.

    It’s well known that Rubio’s background is as messy as John Edwards. And like Edwards, it’s only a matter of time before it all comes out.

    @Baud: he’s wrong. For a republican to win they’ll need atleast 52% of the Latino vote.

    50= (.72)W*60%+(.10)L*52%+(.13)B*6%+(.03)A*26%+(.02)O*38%

    Where W=white, L=latino, B=Black, A=asian, O=other

    This is based on the demographics of 2012. But for the past 24 years, the white vote has declined on average 2.6% per cycle, while the POC vote has risen. So if the white vote declines to 69 to 70 percent, then he will need more than 52% of the latino vote. Especially if Hillary get 43% of the white vote, like Kerry and Gore did.

    My colleague is taking a weekend trip to hit as many countries as possible:
    “Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Italy, Austria, then staying the night in Prague, Czech Republic. Back to Germany on Sunday”

    I’ll be reading Dorothy L Sayers books instead.
    Travel. Bah.

    @Ultraviolet Thunder:

    I’m doing my Annual Rereading of the Dorothy L. Sayers books myself. Am paying particular attention this time around to all the named pubs, clubs, hotels, tea-shoppes, rooming-houses, and the like. There are a goodly number of them mentioned in the canon.

    Jeb is “having a blast” in the same sense that Wile E. Coyote lighting his ass up with a giant rocket in order to catch the Roadrunner was having a blast.

    If memory serves, there were about three singed hairs of the coyote left floating down to the bottom of the canyon.

    Now-a-days here in WV when you plead out to election fraud charges, they make part of the deal that you won’t ever run for any elective office again.

    So you have to accept appointive positions, like Emergency Response Manager, or Volunteer Coordinator, or Parks and Recreation Manager… or Transportation Manager for the School Board!!

    @Felonius Monk:

    Jeb? is now running a Zombie Campaign —- his quest for the nomination is dead, but it keeps crawling ahead on its hands and knees.The big question is who will put it out of its misery and when?

    I tuned into an episode of the new TV series Fear the Living Dead last night in order to see what it was like, only to discover that I was watching the Jeb Bush campaign.

    And that’s not the half of it. Read the article “The GOP has a tech problem it might not solve,” Wired magazine, October 2015.

    Maybe that explains all the boxes labeled “ACME Campaign Supplies” spotted at Jeb!’s campaign headquarters.

    I saw that one (at the drive-in!) when it came out. Love it.
