Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

To the privileged, equality seems like oppression.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

Republicans do not trust women.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

You passed on an opportunity to be offended? What are you even doing here?

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

I thought the lax gun laws were supposed to guarantee there were always plenty of good guys with guns around to kill the terrorists before they got started. So which is it: is Texas unsafe because it gives refugees easy access to guns, or was Paris unsafe because it denied citizens easy access to guns?

@Roger Moore: Both. Everywhere is unsafe. All the time. Because Obama.

I wonder how many of Joe’s constituents would actually write him to remind him to keep his hands off their free porn.

I miss Molly Ivins acutely right now. I can just imagine what she’d be writing about the current crop of presidential candidates.

To my everlasting shame, Joe Barton used to be my Congressman before the districts got moved around. That comment strikes me as right up his ally.

    “household firearms”

Possibly the strangest phrase I’ve read this morning. And it’s been a mighty weird morning.

Good news: Mrs. Cisco is home, after a week in the hospital and two more in rehab.
Recuperation is progressing at levels “higher than anticipated.”
    A full recovery is expected.
