Here’s a beach in West Central Florida:
If you look closely, you’ll see gulls and sand pipers at the shoreline. I attempted to join them since they seemed an honorable outfit.
But they wouldn’t allow it; the reputation of humans preceded me.
What are you up to?
Trying to psych myself up to go do lawn mowing and edge trimming.
Not succeeding thus far.
The woof meister is barking ause Momma is home. Time to go.
There is something to be said about living so close to the beach…
Waiting on parts for my mower. Kids are coming down!

Packing to fly to Paris tomorrow night to kick off our Christmas river tour of central Germany. Hate those long miserable flights!

@OzarkHillbilly: How ya doing tonight?
@Mike in NC: Sounds like a trip well worth a long miserable flight.
Betty, when is your book coming out? Because when I read that post, I laughed out loud and scared the cat. Wonderful!
You ain’t kidding…
For 8 years life was most excellent for a photographer living 3 blocks from Vanderbilt Beach.
Should be a good game tonight. The Giants are –2½; the Dolphins are at home. Both teams are flailing, but they have a shot at the playoffs. Who wants it?
I’m catching up on Grimm ahead of the game.
Because sooner or later, someone is going to complain that Dems aren’t doing this:
His ego has taken control of his brain. There is no way that is gonna end well for him.
I’ve been sleepy all day because the phone company gave me an “appointment” of sometime today to get my land line fixed. Shortly after I got up early, I got a text that they were coming in the afternoon, but by then I was up. I got nothing much done all day. I probably should have just gone back to bed.
@NotMax: Lawn mowing??? Absurd!
@jayboat: Cosby used to be a legitimate icon and figure to look up to.
What a fall. What a shame.
It’s a jungle out there.
I blame Al Gore. :)
Not sure how you win an election, any election, let alone a national election, campaigning on the theme that there’s not enough Doom and Gloom.
I mean even at the height of the Great Depression, FDR’s campaign song was “Happy Days are Here Again”, not “Run for it, we’re all gonna die!”
@Betty in OP:
Fixed it for ya.

There was a robocall on my answering machine when we got back from supper tonight.
It seems the local Republicans can’t find anyone to run against our Congressman, so they’re phoning around in the district begging for someone to step up.
In 2010, the Tea Party forced a guy onto the ballot here who believed that “God was going to drop a 1,000-mile high pyramid” on Greenland to create the New Jerusalem. There’s nowhere to go but up after that.

Dunno if Hoover re-used “Hail Herbert Hoover” in ’32 when facing FDR, but he sure did in ’28.
@Mike in NC: Is there a brand name of cruise you’re willing to drop? This river tour thing is on my wife’s bucket list.

Multiple threads late comment about retaliatory gifts. For many years, before the stores got a batter handle on order quantity, I bought discounted Starbucks ornaments after Xmas, to use the following year. They also make good hostess gifts for informal gatherings. I later expanded it into clever ornaments of any type.
For those in search of retaliatory gifts for this year, Crate and Barrel has baskets of inexpensive ornaments, some of which are cute and clever. In OH at least, they are 30% off while supplies last. I’ve also been known to grab holiday tea towels at Kroger to use as such gifts. A couple of people told me they found them great hostess gifts, which pleased me.
Johnathan Livingston, I presume.

Last Las Vegas bespangled showgirl extravaganza to end after 34 years.
Somehow can’t imagine there will be a reunion cast parading onstage for the final performance, but stranger things have happened.
Today on the local news, they covered the Carolina Panthers highlights and then mentioned that they would cover the Falcons highlights but there were none. I don’t live in North Carolina.
@a hip hop artist from Idaho (fka Bella Q): The best thing that I can do for my children is rid my house of tea towels.
And did it’s creator (who died at 92 just days ago) have a stupendously memorable name or what? Obituary
Since someone on another thread mentioned tinfoil hats, I though I’d share the following story. A couple of years ago, I was in a coffee shop in the Mission District in San Francisco, and there was a guy in there wearing an old brown fedora that he had lined with honest-to-God aluminum foil. When he took off the hat the aluminum foil stayed on his head. I wanted to go and ask the guy if he was wearing it as a joke, but in the end I didn’t, because I didn’t want to get drawn into a conversation with him if it turned out he was serious. After a while the owner, an old Chinese guy, went and told the aluminum foil guy that he had to leave. Not because he had aluminum foil on his head, but because he had been sitting there without buying anything…
@David Koch: Oh that first one really might break me. cajole!
@a hip hop artist from Idaho (fka Bella Q): when I think of retaliatory gifts, I think of buying someone’s child a snare drum or something like that. I once considered opening a business that modified electronic kids toys to make them quieter. Louder might also be a popular option
@NotMax: I never saw Billy Rose’s “Jumbo” *, but in reading the description it seems like “Jubilee” is about as close as one could get. And I’ve never been to Las Vegas. In missing this, did I miss anything?
*Yes, there’s a movie of it, and by all accounts, it’s not the same.

@ThresherK: Viking River Cruises. Haven’t used them before. In 2010 we did an amazing Blue Danube cruise with Tauck that took us to Prague, Vienna, Salzburg, Budapest and a few other places.
Synchronicity: Jumbo is on TCM at 3:45 p.m. EST Tuesday as part of a circus-themed day.
Today is one of those days when Nature reminds those of us who live in So Cal that we live in a Mediterranean climate, not a tropical one. It never broke 60 degrees all day and will get down into the high 30s tonight.
@Mike in NC: Funny, we’re sorta thinking that company, and area, also. Have a great trip!
@Steeplejack (tablet): I need to get TCM. We have whatever’s on their On-Demand thing on Xfinity, but it isn’t the same.
Are they also showing “Trapeze,” with Burt Lancaster and Tony Curtis? I can’t say that it’s good, but it sure is spellbinding in that 1950s melodrama kind of way.
Next time, you should really try draping yourself in seaweed and tasty bivalves. You’ll be amazed at how many new friends you make.
@Mnemosyne (iPhone): Okay, isn’t “The Greatest Show on Earth” (an Oscar Best Pix, IIRC) basically responsible for all these movies being made?
And “spellbinding in that 1950s melodrama kind of way”, everything Bigger: Isn’t that what they were going for to compete with TV?
@lamh36: This bill will quietly die after said rep. gets a visit from an expensively suited NCAA lawyer to explain to him the student-athlete/employee problem and the millions(billions) it will cost the state of MO. and all the other states.
Well, they seem somewhat balanced in their incompetence. So there’s that.
And Gruden’s vocal mannerisms drive me nuts, so I hardly hear the content.
It’s an artifact of another time. In that sense, whether one is missing anything by not having experienced it in person is an open question.
@efgoldman: I do believe in global warming, but it’s hard to attribute it to any one period of weather. I remember playing golf after Xmas in Mass in 1988. Was that global warming too? Maybe, but maybe not. It’s a tricky subject.
@efgoldman: You’re right about the teams but wrong about Gruden as usual.
