Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Lick the third rail, it tastes like chocolate!

When we show up, we win.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

Come on, man.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Here’s a beach in West Central Florida:

If you look closely, you’ll see gulls and sand pipers at the shoreline. I attempted to join them since they seemed an honorable outfit.

But they wouldn’t allow it; the reputation of humans preceded me.

What are you up to?

Should be a good game tonight. The Giants are –2½; the Dolphins are at home. Both teams are flailing, but they have a shot at the playoffs. Who wants it?

I’m catching up on Grimm ahead of the game.

    Damn

Bill Cosby has struck back against some of the dozens of women who’ve accused him of sexual assault.

The world-famous comedian countersued seven women who’d sued him for defamation, saying they actually defamed him.

By saying he sexually assaulted them, the women hurt his reputation so much that plans for a new family comedy on NBC were derailed, the counterclaim said.

Because sooner or later, someone is going to complain that Dems aren’t doing this:

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton delivers the keynote at the National Immigrant Integration Conference in Brooklyn, New York, where she slammed Donald Trump and other Republican candidates for recent anti-immigrant comments and called out Marco Rubio for flip-flopping on the 2013 immigration bill.

    Tonight’s agenda?

Laughing at Republicans while I sew.

There was a robocall on my answering machine when we got back from supper tonight.

It seems the local Republicans can’t find anyone to run against our Congressman, so they’re phoning around in the district begging for someone to step up.

In 2010, the Tea Party forced a guy onto the ballot here who believed that “God was going to drop a 1,000-mile high pyramid” on Greenland to create the New Jerusalem. There’s nowhere to go but up after that.

    Football thread…okay…then

Legislation targets Mizzou football team strike

MO. state rep wants to take scholarships from striking athletes

A Missouri state representative has pre-filed a bill that would cause any striking collegiate athlete in his state to lose their scholarship.

Yes, this is a real bill…The bill comes after Missouri football players in early November decided to forgo football activities in solidarity with campus protesters who called for a change in campus leadership after a series of racially charged on-campus incidents. The players strike last about three days and the team played against BYU the following weekend.

Since this is a pre-file there are few details on this bill, however, as noted by the sports editor of the Columbia Daily Tribune, scholarships aren’t state funded…
The bill is proposed to go into effect on Aug. 28, 2016. The Missouri athletic department has not responded regarding the proposal.

Multiple threads late comment about retaliatory gifts. For many years, before the stores got a batter handle on order quantity, I bought discounted Starbucks ornaments after Xmas, to use the following year. They also make good hostess gifts for informal gatherings. I later expanded it into clever ornaments of any type.

For those in search of retaliatory gifts for this year, Crate and Barrel has baskets of inexpensive ornaments, some of which are cute and clever. In OH at least, they are 30% off while supplies last. I’ve also been known to grab holiday tea towels at Kroger to use as such gifts. A couple of people told me they found them great hostess gifts, which pleased me.

    Trump: Cruz is Nutz

Donald Trump says Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is “a bit of a maniac” who doesn’t have the “right temperament” to be president.

“The way he’s dealt with the Senate — where he goes in frankly like a bit of a maniac — you never get things done that way,” Trump said on “Fox News Sunday.” “You can’t walk into the Senate and scream and call people liars and not be able to cajole and get along with people. He’ll never get anything done. That’s the problem with Ted.”

Trump: Cruz is a fake Christian

“I think we’re going to do, we’re doing really well with Evangelicals. And by the way, and again, I do like Ted Cruz, but not a lot of Evangelicals come out of Cuba, in all fairness. It’s true. Not a lot come out.

Trump: Cruz wants to take away jobs from Iowa and ship them to Iran.

“But really, with the ethanol, he’s got to come a long way, because he’s right now for the oil.”

Since someone on another thread mentioned tinfoil hats, I though I’d share the following story. A couple of years ago, I was in a coffee shop in the Mission District in San Francisco, and there was a guy in there wearing an old brown fedora that he had lined with honest-to-God aluminum foil. When he took off the hat the aluminum foil stayed on his head. I wanted to go and ask the guy if he was wearing it as a joke, but in the end I didn’t, because I didn’t want to get drawn into a conversation with him if it turned out he was serious. After a while the owner, an old Chinese guy, went and told the aluminum foil guy that he had to leave. Not because he had aluminum foil on his head, but because he had been sitting there without buying anything…
