Many thanks to faithful commentor LAMH!
We’re off to our favorite Chinese restaurant (heeya, Adam). Play nice… or at least clean up the worst of the mess after yourselves.

Very cool performance.
Thinking of changing the FYWP theme on The Iggy Dialogues; not sure this one is cutting it. It works okay if I use BlogPad Pro, but I can’t seem to find a version for my phone, and that’s what I use most of the time — I don’t use my iPad for very much anymore.
But anyway, Muppet got another present.

Open thread, right? So, I have a question. Have any of you traveled independently to Cuba? I mean not with a tour, and on the sly? How did it go for you?

Xmas miracle – an entire thread without a single mention of Star Wars.
Granted, under a handful of comments but shall take miracles where I stumble across ’em.

Impressive dancing, and even more impressive memory of the intricate melodies.

Classical station choice of the Abacus.fm channel streaming through the Roku at the moment. Quite pleasant.
Noticed they also have a channel for old time British comedy radio and a separate channel solely for The Goon Show. Shall have to make a mental note to check them out at a later date.

@Mingobat f/k/a Karen in GA: Yeah, I played it for the Spousal Unit — who actually knows about ballet, especially Tchaikovsky — and he said that performance required serious skills. Especially what he called the “dancing on rails” parts, he was impressed by the control & precision!

Just finished dinner. My brother is back in the US over Christmas. He is working for one year in Mbararra Uganda. He is a medical oncologist teaching at a medical school for the Peace Corps. My wife made a bunch of Thai food for him and two of his sons who came along. Now they are heading back to my nephew’s place in Madison. A pleasant day. My neighbor’s daughter and husband came over for Thai food as well. They actually spent their honeymoon in Thailand and stayed with us there for the Bangkok portion of their trip.

The AC is on here in Queens, NY. Just had drinks with a neighbor. I asked her to come by because she’s 75 and alone and has been living next to me for 11 years. We’ve been neighborly and kind. Well, my bad. She’s been in this building forever. She has ALL THE GOSSIP. Not only about people in the building but also about all the owners and clerks in all the businesses around us.
I had the greatest time. I gotta pick my friends better. Just found a new bestie.
Merry Christmas and whatever else to you all.

Getting ready to watch Love Actually, but before I do, Merry Christmas to everyone again.
Enjoy my favorite Christmas song ever. I like all versions, but I’m partial to Tevin Campbell from the 90s

That information is the best Christmas gift ever. I’ll be looking for those channels tonight. Thank you!

@lamh36:
Realized recently that I’d never watched it all the way through, so finally did so last night. Charmed the hell out of me. And of course Emma Thompson is brilliant at everything.

Hey, AL — What’s your favorite Chinese restaurant in Our Faire City?
Arm The Homeless
@bmaccnm:
We have extended family who we can stay with, but you still need to be there for humanitarian reasons (ie. bring lots of toothpaste and deodorant). We were told that we must stay with the family, in their home. We were also limited in the amount of US cash we could bring and use, which means staying in hotels was out of the question. Also expect the equivalent of a block captain to check on you and your activities.
lamh36
@Mingobat f/k/a Karen in GA: yes…the crying scene with Emma Thompson…fuqn brilliant!

@Origuy: That was fun. Thanks!

Mr IOL is reading me jokes. I thought he just found a few on a site, but it turns out he downloaded a free book from Amazon that has 250 of these. Here’s a sample: What’s bald, has clicking teeth, and something else I don’t remember. Answer: A zombie that just ate an old lady and has her dentures.
250.

@lamh36:
I am not in any way a girl movie girl, but I LOVE that movie. It comes together wonderfully. Bill Nighy. OMG!!!

@Iowa Old Lady: what’s brown and sticky?
A brown stick.
What’s a foot long and slippery?
A slipper.
lamh36
@Helen: yes…I’m live-tweeting as I watch it on twitter and I was just talking about Bill Nighy.
I have to admit, I do think of this movie when i see him. The ages rocker bit was so damn funny and charming.

Re-reading, the original comment was woefully unclear.
Put better, it would say that the Abacus.fm channel on the Roku includes among its offerings streams for both old time British radio comedy and also The Goon Show.

@schrodinger’s cat: Bajirao Mastani is playing in two theatres in NYC. Luckily one is in the Times Square area which is easy to get to. The other is closer to me but I don’t like the theatre — the last time I went there, I could hear the movie screen next sub-theatre over.
ETA: I haven’t been to the theatre in Times Square but I’m willing to chance it’s physical plant because I know the one closer to me isn’t a good movie watching experience.
schrodinger's cat
@PurpleGirl: SLB should pay me for promoting the movie! Tell me if you see it before I do and if you like it.
ETA: One of grandmas used to wear nau wari saris (nine yard saris) like the ones Priyanka Chopra wears in the movie. I just love the clothes and jewelry Chopra sports in the movie.

@schrodinger’s cat:
If Alexander Hamilton were in Bajirao Mastani, you and Mnemosyne could have started a kickass fan group.
PurpleGirl
@schrodinger’s cat: I may not know Hindi but I think after seeing the videos here, I understand enough of the story/action to watch the whole movie. But I like the epic aspects, the dancing and the costumes. I want to see it on a “big” screen. (Being an old, I remember when big screens were BIG.)
schrodinger's cat
@Baud: Bajirao was dead before Hamilton was born, so that would be a difficult thing to pull off.
Baud
@schrodinger’s cat: I’ve seen crazier plots.

@NotMax: I’ll take it.

We survived making Christmas dinner for 7. I somehow had thermometer fail (I suspect I put it in the fat by mistake) so I cooked the roast by time instead and it ended up right between rare and medium-rare. Keaton came out and charmed everyone. I started playing Undertale with my niece and nephew’s help. The Christmas presents were well-received. So, overall, a good holiday.

@Tom Levenson:
Not Chinese, but Thai, but the Similans in Cambridge and their sister restaurant Brown Sugar in the Fenway is the best Thai food I’ve ever had. I make a twice yearly pilgrimage to eat Kua Gai at Similans. My favorite meal maybe in the world.

@Tom Levenson: Su Chang — which is not much more than 10 minutes from our place. Probably not worth the trip for Cantabrigians such as you, but highly recommended for anyone in the northern suburbs; it’s just a mile or so down the (side) road from the North Shore Mall, so (by suburban standards) easy to find.
(First recommended to us by friend-of-friend tech workers on rotation from Hong Kong, many years ago, if that makes any difference.)
