Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Everybody saw this coming.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Giving up is unforgivable.

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

This really is a full service blog.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

People really shouldn’t expect the government to help after they watched the GOP drown it in a bathtub.

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

When you’re a Republican, they let you do it.

    Well, the Cowboys/Racial Slurs game should be exciting, if only because a group of people who are protesting the Racial Slurs and their name are outside.

    Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina argued on Sunday that GOP voters should select her over Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) because he would say “whatever” to get elected.

    Speaking to CNN’s Dana Bash, Fiorina defended her criticism of Cruz for shutting down the government in 2013 over President Barack Obama’s health care reform law.

    “Ted Cruz is just like any other politician,” Fiorina told Bash. “He says one thing in Manhattan, he says another thing in Iowa.”

    @Germy: Oh Carly, don’t you know by now? Slight paraphrase, but if there’s anything the MSM considers high praise for any GOP candidate is the line “He’ll do anything to get elected!”

    If Dana Bash had anything on the ball she’d ask Carly how that Rose Bowl bet turned out.

    @Germy: Just made a google and Carly Fiorina is currently at 2.5% nationally. I’m trying to imagine the hypothetical viewer imagined by the CNN producers/bookers who invited her on: “I was gonna sleep in/read the paper/walk the dog/watch the pregame show, but CNN’s got Carly Fiorina!”, who has made more news with a silly tweet pandering about college football than she has since lying about Planned Parenthood two months ago.

    There may be a bit of that thinking, but this is basically the same old range war. Their objection isn’t to the federal government owning courthouses and similar buildings; it’s to the federal government owning large swathes of land. They think the BLM, Forest Service, Park Service, and similar agencies are unconstitutional, and the government should be forced to give up all the open land it owns out west. And they absolutely hate government rules that prioritize wildlife over other uses, so wildlife sanctuaries are on their shit list.

    It’s more that wildlife are given equal status to their cows or sheep. Which, in their eyes, is “prioritizing wildlife.”

    I would dispute that mildly. There are rules that very much put wild animals ahead of livestock; that’s exactly what a wildlife refuge is- a place where wild animals are allowed but livestock isn’t. In any case, the bigger point is that the ranchers really see the land they ranch on as their property no matter what the legal niceties say, and they’re looking for any kind of excuse for why they should just be allowed to have it. That’s the central dispute, and everything else is either secondary or just an excuse.

    @redshirt:
    More realistically, the Broncos had been running all over the Chargers the whole game, but they had kept it close by coughing up the ball left, right, and center. Once they stopped giving the Chargers free chances, they were able to finish the game strong.

    @Roger Moore:
    I remember that game & ABC showed and reshowed and reshowed that break several times throughout the night. I started just turning my head but finally turned it off because they showed it so often.

    My guess is that the NFL may have said something to the networks in the last couple of years because of the legal issues the league has over injury.

    @Roger Moore:

    At least as far back as Joe Theisman’s broken leg.

    No, that one was on endless replays. That night and on Today et al the next morning.

    Kevin Ware breaking his leg in March Madness 2013 is the most recent I remember being replayed over and over. I was surprised when Fox Sports refused to replay the Jorvorskie Lane injury this afternoon.

    @Schlemazel: They showed Tim Krumrie’s leg flopping around for what seemed like hours in 1989.

    YouTube (2:56). (It’s easiest to see in the “reverse angle” starting around 1:40. He’s #69.)

    FWIW.

    Cheers,
    Scott.

    They showed Ricardo Lockette getting hit repeatedly, but there were no exposed bones or anything.

    @Sister Rail Gun of Warm Humanitarianism:
    Sorry; I misread the original message and thought it was asking when they started showing bad injuries on repeat, not when they quit.

    Pettine out, along with the GM. Maybe the can find Manziel while they are out looking for new jobs.
