Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Fight them, without becoming them!

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Never give a known liar the benefit of the doubt.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

Let there be snark.

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

Innocent people do not delay justice.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

Conservatism: there are people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

This fight is for everything.

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

the 10% who apparently lack object permanence

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

Not surprised the Chiefs are winning, mildly surprised it’s this easy. My own personal power rating had the Chiefs at #7 and the Texans at #12 coming into this game.

I think the Chiefs will be the sexy pick in the next round, they’re playing better than either Denver or New England at this point.

    Home field, better record…

But playoffs are QB time, and it’s 2-time SB winner vs. guy making 8th career start.

If the Bengals can get some early breaks and keep a lead, maybe. If they get some bad breaks early, I could see it turning into a rout.

I’m thinking the Seahawks are ripe for an upset, because of the ease with which they won the first matchup.

I don’t think Lynch not playing is a huge loss, because they guy’s been on the shelf for half the season and isn’t going to be in top form. And in a crucial moment, Pete would go for the inside slant anyway. ;-)

I don’t think the ‘Hawks play well in extreme weather

On the other hand, Minnesota doesn’t know anything about playing in the cold either. They’ve had a domed stadium until this year, and it’s been chilly, but not arctic all week.

Catching passes in the cold is more difficult, but not impossible. If AP is stopped, Minnesota has nothing else to fall back on. If the cold knocks 15 points off of Wilson’s completion rate, he’s still throwing 60%.

  42. 42.

    Corner Stone

    January 9, 2016 at 7:45 pm

@Heliopause: Personally, I advocated the Texans trade for Matthew Stafford before the deadline. There are a number of reclamation type NFL QBs I would happily trade for. Nothing worth drafting. We have to get someone on the O side or lose JJ shortly, and probably Hopkins. Foster most likely will not see the field again as a Texan, but the RB spot has really ratcheted down in the last 3-4 years so not as big a problem as QB for us.

We have a hockey game 1 block from the Stadium tomorrow. Games starts at 2. We know parking will be difficult and obscenely over-priced so are taking the tram. We don’t have to start out till after the drunks start puking INSIDE the stadium so thats good. I am prying for a huge blow out so the drunks start home early other wise we will be getting out shortly after the game ends & those same drunks will be puking inside the train cars. So thats one vote for an early 4-5 TD lead for the C-hogs

The Times had an article about what happens to the football in that kind of cold. Interesting stuff – I knew the balls got harder, but not that they also got smaller (which makes sense, if I’d thought about it: air contracts), and you have to throw a little harder.

I hope the team practiced in a simulation – like, in a giant meat locker.

ETA: @Schlemazel: That one was pure luck. Not that I discount luck at all, but Green Bay outplayed the ‘Hawks pretty much the entire game.

for what I saw of the Bengals – Steelers games, it was sloppy. the mess at the end with the penalties is a huge downer for the Bengals, part of me would blame the player(s) responsible for that but it’ll likely be the coach who has to answer for the bad penalties. Coaches are supposed to instill Discipline…

If there is any justice, Steelers players responsible for illegal hits this game should be suspended for the next game.
