I feel ya. The pizza was good but didn’t quite scratch the Chinese itch. As Redshirt mentioned above, preparation is crucial. I’ve learned my lesson for tomorrow.
CLOCK STOPPAGES: If you thought the clock stopped on every out-of-bounds play and didn’t start again until the ball was snapped, well, think again.
For years, the NFL has restarted the clock after the ball carrier has gone out of bounds, except in the final two minutes of the first half, the final five minutes of the fourth quarter, and in the regular season, the final five minutes of overtime.
137.
Heliopause

@efgoldman: I’ve seen a few glowing commercials about how well KC played last week. Yes, that and 5 turnovers do help you look highly competent.
I, personally, think Hoyer was playing with scrambled eggs up top. I said before they announced Hoyer as starter that they should be giving Wheedon all the throws against JAX because he was our best shot to beat KC or Jets.
I fucking can’t stand garbage time coach O’Brien.
Pats need another long drive with a score to put this game away.
141.
goblue72
@redshirt: I didn’t see the play specifically, but generally, if the offensive player with the ball stops forward momentum inbounds and is forced out by the defense, the clock keeps running. If the offensive players forward momentum takes them out of bounds, the clock stops. The clock stopping is to the advantage of the offense, so they are required to earn it.
Again, generally speaking – rules change inside the 2 minute clock at end of 2nd & 4th quarters.
142.
Corner Stone
Yes, Dan Fouts. Going for 1 there was sheer genius by Andy Reid.

@MomSense: From what I understand, Gotham City and Metropolis are “sister cities” and Superman’s mighty battle in the last film caused property damage (and loss of life). Wayne Enterprises headquarters was destroyed. Some employees died.
Bruce Wayne (and other earthlings) are somewhat worried about a Super Man who can fly around and use powers. They throw the word “alien” around a lot when talking about him. They don’t know he’s good (remember, in their universe there are no superman or batman comic books). Even Batman isn’t trusted by many people, he is considered a dangerous and deranged vigilante.
162.
goblue72
@MomSense: Technically its a sequel to the Man of Steel, and a lead-in to some future movie involving the full Justice League a la the Avengers movies.
I’m trying to not-watch the Pats Chiefs game because I’m convinced the Pats lose if I watch them. Watching the commercials though and WTF is up with this Batman vs. Superman thing? Why would they be in opposition? Why would anyone cast Ben Affleck?
Without any inside knowledge or spoilers, this movie is rediculously easy to predict:
Act 1: Batman doesn’t like Superman, eventually they fight to end the first act. Batman surprises Superman with some trick, but it doesn’t really matter because who can beat Superman? No one, that’s who.
Act 2: Batman and Superman learn they need to work together, against a common foe. Wonder Woman is introduced in this act to provide a false enemy.
Act 3: Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman all work together to defeat an even greater enemy. Do you like disaster porn?
looks like the patriots are the better team in this game.
168.

@redshirt: Act 4: Supes and Batman start towards Benghazi, but are told to stand down. Five separate Republican controlled committees cover up for them to not destroy the faith of children.

One of the announcers just said, “What a chess match, huh?” WTF? So far it has been like the Pats are playing checkers with the village idiot.
Steeplejack
@Anoniminous:
You’re practically pre-leather-helmet.

@Steeplejack (phone):
I caught a funny ad the other day. Don’t remember what it was for but these kid’s car breaks down & they get a lift from an Amish kid in a buggy. They ask him how he manages with out the internet. He answers, “It’s OK I get pictures of your mother in the mail.”
redshirt
So Alex Smith’s run out of bounds did not stop the clock. Why?
Steeplejack
@Corner Stone:
I feel ya. The pizza was good but didn’t quite scratch the Chinese itch. As Redshirt mentioned above, preparation is crucial. I’ve learned my lesson for tomorrow.
raven
@redshirt:
Heliopause
OK, Smith looked pretty good on that drive. That scramble play was something.
Corner Stone
@efgoldman: I’ve seen a few glowing commercials about how well KC played last week. Yes, that and 5 turnovers do help you look highly competent.
I, personally, think Hoyer was playing with scrambled eggs up top. I said before they announced Hoyer as starter that they should be giving Wheedon all the throws against JAX because he was our best shot to beat KC or Jets.
I fucking can’t stand garbage time coach O’Brien.
Redshift
@Steeplejack: You’re welcome.
redshirt
Pats need another long drive with a score to put this game away.
Corner Stone
Yes, Dan Fouts. Going for 1 there was sheer genius by Andy Reid.
redshirt
@goblue72: Yeah, that’s the rule. I just don’t think it’s applied realistically.
Corner Stone
The KC DB’s have no idea what to do right now.
goblue72
@redshirt: I don’t think anyone would accuse the NFL refereeing of an excess of consistency.
goblue72
Jamie Collins on the bench with a torso wrap. Jerod Mayo with shoulder injury. Pats D getting beat up again. *sigh*
goblue72
Marijuana Brownie for the sack.
redshirt
I like this Patriots team very much.
Anoniminous
Delay of game on a punt? WTF?
Patriots #22 has made some nice plays in the open field.

@goblue72: Synthetic Angel Dust, actually.

@redshirt: I think that’s just rumor out of pundits rear ends.
Mike J
BTW, hating CBS’s camera work is a now a thing.
MomSense
I’m trying to not-watch the Pats Chiefs game because I’m convinced the Pats lose if I watch them. Watching the commercials though and WTF is up with this Batman vs. Superman thing? Why would they be in opposition? Why would anyone cast Ben Affleck?
lahke
And now for something completely different:
Went to see the Met simulcast this afternoon, and oh, my was it gorgeous.

Balloon Juice, once again on the leading edge of pop-culture crotchetiness. Long may our belt onions dangle!
Omnes Omnibus
I am rooting halfheartedly for KC today, but I think that was a fumble.
goblue72
@Mike J: Better be careful or they’ll start doing to the football that FoxTrax thing they did in NHL games with the glowing puck.
Mike J
@MomSense: Superdickery.
? Martin
@MomSense: You’re totally safe watching. Chiefs are done. Game over.
Germy
@MomSense: From what I understand, Gotham City and Metropolis are “sister cities” and Superman’s mighty battle in the last film caused property damage (and loss of life). Wayne Enterprises headquarters was destroyed. Some employees died.
Bruce Wayne (and other earthlings) are somewhat worried about a Super Man who can fly around and use powers. They throw the word “alien” around a lot when talking about him. They don’t know he’s good (remember, in their universe there are no superman or batman comic books). Even Batman isn’t trusted by many people, he is considered a dangerous and deranged vigilante.
goblue72
@MomSense: Technically its a sequel to the Man of Steel, and a lead-in to some future movie involving the full Justice League a la the Avengers movies.
As for Superman v. Batman, it was a stgoryline in one the greatest Batman comics ever.
MomSense
@Omnes Omnibus:
I’ll only be friends with your other half.
MomSense
@? Martin:
If you were at my house right now I would make you turn three times counter clockwise and spit. That is a wicked jinx.
redshirt
@MomSense:
Omnes Omnibus
@MomSense: I want a GB/KC Super Bowl.
east is east
looks like the patriots are the better team in this game.
Mike J
@redshirt: Act 4: Supes and Batman start towards Benghazi, but are told to stand down. Five separate Republican controlled committees cover up for them to not destroy the faith of children.
raven
@Omnes Omnibus: Rotsa Ruck.
goblue72
@redshirt:
Doomsday.
Omnes Omnibus
@raven: Still more likely than a Chicago/NE Super Bowl.

@Omnes Omnibus: Da Berz.
redshirt
@goblue72: Yeah, but I’m talking movies.
Supes is invincible.
goblue72
@redshirt: Richard Pryor.
Mike J
I’m not saying anything bad about anybody’s team. My team plays tomorrow and I don’t want a karma repayment.
redshirt
@goblue72: LOL.
As Patriots fans, we are spoiled beyond belief. No one has ever known this run of success.
Villago Delenda Est
@redshirt: The greater enemy: The Donald.
MomSense
@Germy:
Ok that makes sense.
@redshirt:
I love that all the action, coming of age, and rom/com movies follow such predictable scripts. Could this be why they are so popular?
@goblue72:
I loved the Justice League cartoons on Saturday mornings. Wonder twin powers activate.
Villago Delenda Est
@Omnes Omnibus: It’s going to be a Seahawks/Who Cares? Superbowl.
JPL
oh no on the one.. they still could win
JPL
I appreciate the clock management though
Heliopause
Smith and Reid are simply incapable of anything but dink and dunk.
Steeplejack (phone)
I hate Andy Reid. He does clock management with an hourglass. Maybe a sundial.
Mike J
@MomSense: Save the cat.
Steeplejack (phone)
And finally they score.
Omnes Omnibus
@Villago Delenda Est: There are still games to play. I am not making any calls.

Kick it away!
Mike J
Onside kicks can sometimes work
goblue72
@redshirt: I couldn’t resist.
raven
“It’s over” “But KC does have three times outs”!
JPL
The chiefs are doing trick plays that no one understands
Corner Stone
Welp.
Steeplejack (phone)
Tilt! Lucky bounce.
Omnes Omnibus
@efgoldman: Maybe. Maybe not.
redshirt
@Steeplejack (phone): Very lucky. That goes slightly a different way and this game is totally different.
goblue72
GO STILLERS!
p.a.
Pats can not run to put game away. Against a better Offense (Macklin?) it would’ve hurt them tonight. They don’t create holes, even when healthy. That’s why Dion Lewis loss hurts so much. He needs cracks, not holes. Blount and Jackson need breaches. I think they won’t let White run to preserve him for pass catching duty.
p.a.
Yes also too, go Steelers! No Brown, no Williams, hopefully Rapeistberger is healthier than he’s letting on. C’mon Peyton, hack up that hairball. You know you want to.
Steeplejack (phone)
Maybe a minty fresh new thread for Game 2?
redshirt
@goblue72: It’s sad how broken the Steelers will be when facing the Broncos. Who have a very good defense.
Steeplejack (phone)
Al Michaels. Al fucking Michaels. Might see if I can synch with SiriusXM audio.
Mike J
I will cheer for the soçialists over the team from the state that elects John McCain over and over.
PaulW
so far the only team winning that I know of is the US State Dept. GO TEAM OBAMA.
PaulW
@Mike J:
McCain might not survive the primary. He’s got a wingnut running against him and he’s trailing in the early polls.
Mike J
@PaulW: If they replace McCain, the new guy won’t vote any differently, he’ll just be more honest in his wingnuttery.
Steeplejack (phone)
@Mike J:
And hopefully he won’t be on TV every Sunday.
