Oh wow. Seems like we’ve been losing a lot of these guys lately.
OldDave
True, but Joe died over a year ago. The intertubes has somehow resurrected and killed him again. ETA: he passed on December 22, 2014.
Matt McIrvin
He died two years ago. He seems to be becoming one of those guys who dies again every year.
…oops, one year and change, I guess.
Honus
Joe Cocker died in December 2014. So yeah, RIP.
Baud
@OldDave:
Yeah, I was searching for news after I saw this post and there was nothing. I thought that was weird.
Elizabelle
Do you think people are getting Joe Cocker and Paul Kantner mixed up? (ETA: same era, only …)
Definite deja vu moment there.
Baud
RIP Janis Joplin.
Elizabelle
I think you should change the blogpost title to RIP, again, so as not to alarm those still commenting wildly downstream.
OldDave
@Baud:
Slow golf clap. Well done.
Elizabelle
Great. Now John Cole’s put this out on the FB feed.
Automatically, but still …

I thought I’d time traveled with Doug! when I saw the title. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

@Baud: And goddamn, Hendrix has slipped this mortal coil too.
RIP, Jimi.

My FB friends have been doing it too. I just saw a post go by about Jean Stapleton’s death.
Generalissimo Francisco Franco is also still dead, by the way.

but he still could belt it out, and he should still whatever in peace.

Yesterday or so, the Facebooks were burning up with the news that Jean Stapleton had died. (She died in May 2013.)
And a few weeks ago, I got sucked, or suckered, in — for the second time, I’m afraid — by the news that Bob Denver had passed. (He did, in 2005.)
I’m trying to train myself to double- and triple-check dates before I pass these along. Wonder how they get started so frequently.
lgerard
I saw him die onstage at the Fillmore East in 1969…but then he jumped back up and continued

Semi OT recent death, I picked up the Time commemorative on David Bowie. I wasn’t gonna, but then I was near and it was Bowie so I did. Some really nice early pics of him as a teen. He looks so amazing. Still can’t believe he’s gone.
Aleta
@SiubhanDuinne: Heard someone say John Denver was in an accident.

Whew. For a moment there I thought I had come unstuck in time. I remember well when he died.
One of the greatest rock concerts, no darn it, the greatest I ever saw was the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour. This was only partly because his opening act was Van Morrison, who was in fact who I had come to see. I’m dating myself no matter what here, but I was very young. I couldn’t even drive there, I had to hitchhike.
Also, an inspiration for one of the best music videos ever:

@SiubhanDuinne: yeah, but bob was in West Virginia so…

@Baud: Too soon?

OT, but potentially of interest as current news:
No bond for Ammo Bundy, his brother Ryan, Jason Patrick, Ryan Payne, and Dylan Anderson. Ammo’s counsel plans to appeal.
Joseph O’Shaughnessy was permitted to be released under home detention and GPS monitoring, and Shawna Cox to be released with conditions once the occupation of the refuge is over. The magistrate was undecided about bond for Santilli. The government will appeal the release of O’Shaughanessy.
The appeal will be to the US District Judge; the bonds were set – and denied – by a US magistrate judge. There is an automatic right of appeal to the US District Judge, so none of this is procedurally unusual.

@Baud:
WHAT?!? Why didn’t somebody tell me?
Howard Beale IV
I saw that pop up on BBC’s website. fascinating.
Bill E Pilgrim
Okay with two mentions of Jean Stapleton in this thread, now I’m involuntarily imagining Jean Stapleton as Edith singing all of Joe Cocker’s greatest hits.
That could actually be sort of brilliant. Either that or Joe Cocker doing “Those were the days” with Archie. Sitting at the piano…

RIP Desmond Dekker. man, rough day.

@Aleta: And Major Glenn Miller’s plane hasn’t reported in.
the Conster, la Citoyenne
Mr. Conster told me in alarm that Richie Havens had died today too, but yeah. No. Already dead. Someone needs to invent the new Abe Vigoda status check. Robert DeNiro? Keith Richards?

I saw this and thought, “What the hell? These guys are dying so fast now that they’re dying twice?”
benw
@Smedley Darlington Prunebanks (formerly Mumphrey, et al.): Joe Cocker was such a son of a gun, I dug him him up and killed him AGAIN!
Heliopause
Something tells me this is a deliberate disrespect to Paul Kantner dressed up as a “whoops.” In that spirit, here is my favorite song that he didn’t write.

I heard Charlemagne passed away from pleurisy just yesterday.
the Conster, la Citoyenne
Maybe it’s David Bowie pulling the cosmic strings of the web that is social media, wanting us to pay attention to the musical greats? If I were dead David Bowie, that’s what I’d do. He’s a Starman again, after he was the man who fell to earth as a spider from Mars. That Lazarus video is next level.

However if he ends up being cremated, expect there to be a brisk business hawking tickets to stand downwind.

This just in from 1799: George Washington, the first President of the United States and the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, has passed on. “First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.” Unfortunately, he never learned to rock and roll.

this worked so well last time…
Nice of the third-tier hack who blundered his way to a fortune and seat in Congress to step on the email story for her
Omnes Omnibus
@efgoldman: I had another 13 hour really crappy day at work, so bear that in mind when I ask: for what?
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@Omnes Omnibus: A frequent proximity to stolen cars and one very profitable and well-timed, well insured fire (in fairness, it’s been years since I read this article)
@efgoldman: Well, he was, but the charges were dropped
Omnes Omnibus
@efgoldman: To be honest, I really loved my state job. I was also quite good at it. As for the rest, it just a bad couple of weeks. Happens everywhere. If you weren’t retired, I would advise you not to let people know of your competence. It comes back to haunt you. I was taking care of things that needed to be done this week that my equivalently positioned colleagues weren’t able to handle. Part of my annoyance. And my boss is totally over-worked and over-stressed and her nature is to react by lashing out over little things. I hate private sector jobs.
Omnes Omnibus
@efgoldman: That job was perfect for me. It hit exactly in my wheelhouse. It went away. The current job has some challenges – including those mentioned above. When it comes bonus time, I will mention weeks like this….

god is dead.
also, thank god, breitbart.

@chrome agnomen: BJ is slipping. T’s not unusual to have a “breitbart is still dead” comment on a regular thread! But to have to wait until #62 in this thread, shocking! :-)
