Hello ? Anybody home ?
Adam L Silverman
@divF: Central Florida House of Dog Hair, how may we help you?
divF
Whew. I thought I was going to spend the evening alone in this thread. Kind of spooky.
jacy
Trying to pack up my house to move — after 15 years of small children, there are so many LEGO everywhere that I could just build another house….

Sitting on a park bench, here. Snot is running down my nose.
divF
@jacy:
And Adam could make you a rug out of the dog hair. Nice.
Adam L Silverman
@jacy: Watch out for the red ones, they really hurt when you step on them.
Adam L Silverman
@divF: My Oreck and I stand ever ready to assist!

I think the worst concert I saw back in the ’70s was Jethro Tull. Jethro Dull, more like. They had some good music, but they sucked and blew that night.
But in the spirit of the thread I will offer something from a ’70s concert that was excellent: B.B. King, “The Thrill Is Gone.”
Bonnie Raitt opened for him and joined him at the end of his set. She did a great version of “Everybody’s Cryin’ Mercy.”

@jacy: In December 2008 I was scheduled to have a meeting with a budget examiner from OMB. I got there, and he told me he had to cut the meeting short – he had won the office lottery to go to the White House Christmas party for the EOP staff. He was all dressed up for the occasion, including a really sharp-looking set of Lego cufflinks and tie clip.
So there is another use you can put the leftover Legos to.

(*kicks new thread tires, nods approvingly*) ;)
Um, it’s savage breasts which music platitudinally soothes.
Maybe not soothing, but an oldie and a weirdie. With primitive SFX, no less.

It’s woofy cold here in NoVa: 25° now and going down to 17° overnight. Then only 20° tomorrow and 10° Saturday night. I’m driving to Rehoboth Beach tomorrow morning, but it’s about the same there. Anyway, overnighter at the beach with good friends, probably an excellent meal or two in there somewhere. And I always like getting out on the road.
ETA: Something has changed in the FYWP ecosystem. I can no longer stretch the comment box to make it bigger while I’m writing. WTF. (Desktop version, Firefox, Windows 10.)

@NotMax: God, that is horrible.

@Steeplejack: Yeah, I was thinking about trying to do some canvassing tomorrow, but I’m not dedicated enough to go out on a day when the temps are supposed to be declining steadily from the 20s.
BillinGlendaleCA
@Steeplejack: Clapton was not a great stage act when I saw him either, but it was a dual bill with Sir Elton, with Elton first. That probably didn’t help.
Walker
I was at a Jethro Tull concert last year. It was a mistake. Ian’s voice stamina is gone and he cannot hold an entire concert anymore. He plays the flute just fine, but he can only sing in small doses.
divF
@Adam L Silverman:
I just can’t make those two words go together. I keep wanting to read them as Lap Steel or Lap Dance.
I also saw Jethro Tull in the early 1970’s. The venue – the Shady Grove Music Fair in Gaithersburg Maryland, a nifty theater in the round – was more memorable than the performance.

@Steeplejack: Was 91 here today, is it February?

I saw Ben Cisco’s news on the last thread, and I just wanted to express my condolences, and awe, at his remarkable way of coping with such a devastating loss…by giving a gift of life to others. Inspiring, just like the fictional Captain Sisko.

About 70 up here around the Bay.
Every winter I am stunned by the false spring that we get sometime in late January – early February. All the plum trees in the neighborhood blossom, and it seems like paradise. I hope this year we will revert to form, and get more downpours in March.

To cleanse the palate, a surprisingly tender ballad from the group that gave us “Wild Thing”—the Troggs, “Love Is All Around.” Complete with leggy model birds.

Currently 43 degrees F here in SE Alaska (it’s 9:30 pm)
We haven’t had snow in weeks – can see it on the mountains but all the streets and stuff are clear – and its not predicted to be below freezing for a while (snow keeps hovering in the 10 day forcast but it doesn’t arrive – just rain and a little sleet). Bears have been seen walking around.
Days are getting longer – not totally dark leaving work anymore.
Our caucus is late March – haven’t made up my mind.

@BillinGlendaleCA:
I saw Santana open for Clapton in their ’70s heyday. Carlos came out at the end and played with Eric for a few songs. They didn’t mesh completely, but I was in ecstasy because they were two of my biggest guitar gods. (Their individual sets were fantastic.)

@Steeplejack: I think the difference was/is that Sir Elton is a showman as well as a musician. Clapton is a musician.

@NotMax:
Last Saturday night I was listening to the ’60s channel on SiriusXM while I was out and about, and I got hooked into Peter Noone’s show, because quite often he tells genuinely funny and interesting stories about Herman’s Hermits and the ’60s music scene. He was on some long story about a night out clubbing with a “leggy model bird” who he suspected was using him to get into places and would jettison him as soon as she got within range of Mick Jagger. He told it well, with dry and self-deprecating wit. Kept repeating the phrase “leggy model bird,” which stuck in my head all week.

My Republican candidate deathwatch:
Carson, the last Kook, and the remaining DSEs are all fading fast. Carson’s done what he came to do, i.e. his brand-building project. The DSEs are clinging to a faint hope that both Loose Cannon and Jackhole will spontaneously combust and hand one of them the nom, but this seems unlikely to me. It’s now a race between two candidates whom the party establishment despises, and whom it fears can’t win in November.
Unless Loose Cannon and Jackhole do indeed both spontaneously combust, I don’t expect any more surprises. Indeed, I wouldn’t be surprised anymore to see the ultimate Republican nightmare 2016 ticket: Trump/Cruz.

Here is a nice song in which Ian only plays flute.

@Amir Khalid: makes sense. They’ve been selling armageddon for years, so that the base turns out, and now they are finally stuck with candidates the base wants.
Steeplejack
@Marc:
Your tiny URL crashes on the rocks of HomeImprovement.com (for me, at least). Fixed it here.
Marc
@Steeplejack: Check out Bloomsky.com. They have a nice website where you can check out the weather all over the world (I have a station at my condo), and watch time lapse videos of the day at each location. There are four or five stations that I see on the map for AK, but none in Fairbanks.

The Shakespeare quote is that music soothes the savage breast. So you need to put up some striptease music.

I’m awaiting the birth of my first son. I used to wonder why so many women died during childbirth.
I have a much better idea now.
Anguished, wave upon wave of labor with no breaks for 3 hours. Then the application of modern drugs. Instantaneous transformation from wild-eyed panic to tranquility.
A wondrous experience thus far, and the hospital staff have been terrific.

@Amir Khalid: I don’t think Trump is going to pick Cruz as VP. He would need more than just a foodtaster to finish his term. I don’t think he is going to pick any mainstream GOPer either, definitely not one of the loooooser candidates. I still think he is going to pick his son.
JPL
@Scapegoat: Congrats! .
Amir Khalid
@Calouste:
That brings up the issue of a ticket with both candidates from the same state, doesn’t it?
Scapegoat
@JPL:
Thank you. Spent the first 50 years on this planet as an avowed non-breeder. Funny how time can invert one’s perspectives.
Scapegoat
@TheMightyTrowel:
How delightful!
Calouste
@Amir Khalid: That’s not much of an issue really. The constitution says that a state can’t award its delegates to both a Presidential candidate and a Vice-Presidential candidate from that state. But if Trump wins New York, it’s such a landslide he won’t need the electoral votes from New York. And it’s not like Trump junior can’t set up residence in New Jersey or Connecticut for a few months.
BillinGlendaleCA
@Amir Khalid: Being that THE DONALD doesn’t think that Failgunner Ted is eligible to be President due to his foreign birth, I think a Trump/Cruz ticket is improbable.
sacrablue
In light of Ben Cisco’s sad news so quickly followed by Scapegoat’s glorious news, this seems in order:<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pX6SuX0Z6AQ". I can’t seem to get the link to link.
sacrablue
@BillinGlendaleCA: I don’t think THE DONALD believes anything he says.
BillinGlendaleCA
@sacrablue: Considering his history(Obama’s birth certificate), I still think he’d steer clear of Failgunner Ted(in addition to requiring a food taster).
sacrablue
@BillinGlendaleCA: In one sense they are polar opposites, but at the same time they just belong together. Another bad marriage, I guess. Still requires a food taster.

Trump will probably put Sanders on the ticket.
They both oppose immigration reform. They both wanted to throw the first Black president out of office in 2012. And Sanders insists Trump’s white working class base are really Sanders voters.

I think Trump would pick Ivanka for VP, she was on the Apprentice the one time I watched a couple of minutes of because I had lost the remote in the cushions.
Amir Khalid
@Mary G:
That’s as good a VP choice as any for Trump as any other, and as rational a reason as I’ve ever come across.

@TheMightyTrowel: Good for you :) My animals are all either very old (the 17-year-old Pomeranian), or heading that way – 3 cats that are now 13. I’ve been hankering for a new, younger pet, but I just can’t right now. Have fun!

@Amir Khalid: And he’d really love to fuck her(well, if he wasn’t married and she wasn’t his daughter). OK, now I feel a sudden need for a shower.

@Steeplejack: Saw Ringo Starr and his all Starr band this past October. He knows his limits, put on a good show. His backup band had former members of Toto and Santana. While Ringo would take a break, we’d get a couple of songs like “Rosanna” and “Africa” or “Black Magic Woman”. Sounded bang on. It was a hockey arena in a small city, about 90% full. @Calouste: Cruz/Trump would be a possibility. Trump isn’t the sort that likes to work as hard as a President needs to but it gives him all the glory, the access-all-areas ticket, the use of the Presidential jets and all that entails.
Steeplejack (phone)
@Doug R:
Cool! Ringo still sounds great.

@benw: Crest of a Knave was a much better album than …And Justice for All. Not even really close, Metallica started their long ugly slide into self-parody with that album. Speaking as a huge fan of their previous albums.
They shouldn’t really have been in the same category though, “Hard” Rock and Metal are too dissimilar.
Speaking of Jethro Tull, they hold the distinction of performing one of the best AND one of the worst concerts I’ve ever been to. I caught the “A Little Light Music” tour in the early 90s at the Orpheum in Boston. It was set up as two shows, an acoustic performance, an intermission, and then a traditional electrified show. So many great songs. Fantastic. Saw them a few years later and >YAWN<. Even back then, even at the great show, Ian's voice had suffered a lot from age.
No One You Know
@TheMightyTrowel: I couldn’t stop smiling. I felt that way when I brought home my current pair from the humane society. Still wondering who would ever have let them go. Brunswick and Deja vu wave paws at Gambit and Storm ( great name choices!)
