I’ve been bothering my brother for a while for some pics of Ellie, so here she is. She’s slowly recovering, spending a lot of time sleeping, but she has her up moments, too:
This was a pretty major surgery for a little dog.

They can really be tough, those little dogs. She’s adorable and I hope for a longer quality life for her. Best to Seth.

Great looking puppy. Glad she’s doing well, hope she gets all better.
Some years ago we had a great dog, we named him Step-Aside Clyde because as a little puppy he was always right underfoot. He was 99.99% black long hair, and smart. Really smart! Eventually, when he was 4ish, he lost the use of his hind legs. We think he fell off the back steps, under the rail, and hurt his back. No telling, he was a free farm dog.
The vet didn’t see anything with regular x-rays. So Mrs J got directions to a Vet hospital in Columbus, and put Clyde in the front passenger seat and took off. Our vet gave her a folder with Clyde’s history, and called the hospital to let them know she was on her way.
She got there and people came running out with a gurney, just like the ER when any ambulance arrives. The next morning Clyde had an MRI at Children’s hospital, which the Vet hospital had a hardware sharing agreement with.
Later that day, a neurosurgeon operated on Clyde’s spine, where disks had been damaged, and adhesions were affecting his spinal cord. After a couple of days, they threw Clyde out, because he was pretty talkative. Mrs J got a lot of advice on how to keep him quiet (Yeah, right! Clyde being quiet!) and let him heal.
We had a strap we (me really) could put under his hind legs and support him to go outside to walk the path in the woods from the front door. After a few days, 2 or 3 weeks I guess, he was wiggling those legs. Full recovery, about another 10 years of happy chief dog in charge.
So I’m betting Ellie will be fine. They do great with a little high-tech assistance. So glad they do, too.

@J R in WV: What a great story – thank you for sharing it. And good luck to Miss Ellie too – she looks like a feisty lass!

Come on Ellie! It looks like she’s on the mend, it must be quite a relief.
I had a scare with my little Senegal parrot, Digby. Tuesday night and Wednesday morning she was vomiting profusely. With birds, they don’t show any symptoms until they are very very sick and she looked at death’s door on Wednesday morning. While I was packing up for the vet and trying to get him on the phone to say we couldn’t wait one more hour for our appointment and we had an emergency…..she stopped vomiting and started acting normal. The vet examined her and ran tests and could find no problem. She lost a dangerous amount of weight but regained it in only a couple of days. She seems a perfectly normal, healthy, happy, and mischievous little bird. Vet and I are thinking food poisoning.

Good to see that she’s up and about. Hope she continues to recover.

I hope she’s feeling better soon.
Our senior girl lost a toe to toe cancer last month, but after the first painful day, seems pretty chipper.

John, I missed this story but I’m glad she’s recovering. What did Ellie need surgery for?

Awww, cute doggie! Best wishes for a speedy recovery that’s easy on the dog and the human!

@benw: My sister has a dog with that trait, a also small. Very cute in that size. Get much bigger, like a lab mid, and it’s a bit goofy.
Of course all the lab mixes I’ve had were at least a bit goofy.

I was wondering, so happy to hear Ellie is on the mend. Good luck Seth!

@J R in WV: My first beagle had paralysis from disk damage when she was 3. Expensive surgery, and she recovered and prospered for another 13 years. Loved that doggie.
Good luck to Ellie.

Cute little furball! I’m happy to hear she’s better.

That second photo is adorable! I, too, have been wondering about Ellie. If that second photo is a recent one, I’d say she’s gonna do just fine.

@J R in WV: That is a wonderful story.
I have to say, though, that when you talk about Mrs. J. I always wonder what you are doing with jefferyw’s wife, who is also Mrs. J, I believe. I know it’s 2016 and all, but I have to commend all of you for getting along so amicably. :-)

Thank you for the update. She is so sweet. So glad she is doing ok.

Continued recovery for Ellie and good thoughts to Seth. Thanks for the update.

@WaterGirl: Maybe I should use her full name,
Mrs J R, instead of her nickname, the much shorter Mrs J…. What do you all think?
Maybe the confusion and aura of poly-ism is better, tho, so who knows?
I always admire JeffreyW’s posts, and I’m sure his Mrs J is as attractive and creative as you could ask for!
;-)

@J R in WV: Oh, no, don’t change a thing. I actually enjoy the moment of “huh?” and the laugh I have about it all. Every time you write Mrs J!
