Commentors RedDirtGirl and PsiFighter37 have separately indicated a wish for another NYC meet-up, even without a visiting fireman convenient.
Date and place to be determined. I’d suggest the weekend before Memorial Day weekend, which is not so soon that people won’t be able to rearrange their plans nor so distant that people won’t be able to commit. But unfortunately I won’t be attending, so leave a comment below with your more pertinent ideas!
RedDirtGirl
Guilty as charged! Why should the people in DC have the POTUS as a neighbor AND a meet-up? The Friday or Saturday of the w/e before Memorial Day w/e sounds good to me.
Amir Khalid
I might be able to come for this one, if I can get someone to give me a ride from Kuala Lumpur to New York City.
LAO
Count me in. (Probably)
ETA: Friday would work better for me cause I’m one of those annoying NYers who goes away every weekend.
PurpleGirl
Weekend before Memorial Day sounds good to me. Yes, it is time for NYC to have a meet-up. Any idea of where to hold it?
@Amir Khalid: If I had a car and if I knew how to drive, I’d love to give you a ride.
MattF
@efgoldman: It’s a thing.
Vheidi
Count me in, Friday also better

Did I see something about a DC-area meet-up on 5/18?

OT – not enough booze to face this

West Virginia state Senate candidate Richard Ojeda was brutally beaten during a cookout Sunday — just two days before his primary — and nearly run over with a pickup truck, Ojeda told NBC News.
Jonathan Stuart Porter, 41, was in custody Sunday. State Trooper Zachary Holden told NBC News he was being held on suspicion of malicious assault, malicious attempted assault and felony destruction of property.
In an interview from his hospital room in Charleston, Ojeda, 45, a Democrat and military veteran whose primary contest is Tuesday, said he had been at a barbecue in the mountains about 60 miles southwest of Charleston when Porter asked for a bumper sticker.
Steeplejack
@Jeffro:
No, but there is one on the 16th.
JPL
@D58826: Considering she would be the saner of the two, I have to agree with you.
Face
OT: This shit just got real.
I dont really know what “law enforcement action” means (other than cops shooting AAs), but it cannot possibly be a net positive for NC.
Jeffro
@Steeplejack: Thanks!
Looks like I will have to wait until there’s one a little closer to home (NoVA) and/or on a weekend night. Everyone have a great time, though!
Amir Khalid
@D58826:
Meanwhile, der Donald has made a YOOOGE appointment: Chris Christie will be chairman of his transition team. As with VP Jan Brewer, we’ll see if it ever comes to pass.

A local Dem organization in an extremely gray haired in suburban PHX is having a candidate Meet, Greet & and beg for money event this Wednesday night. The area has 7% Dems.
The line up includes 2 local Dems going for state and house seats, the campaign manager for 2 AZ Corporate Commission seats and the guy who is running against Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Then a guest Speaker.
My hesitancy is caused by; a)there wouldn’t be much BJ interaction and b) the the former cop going Against Joe, although close in the polls has a domestic violence baggage he’s dealt with. Also c) the guest speaker is a Dr. who is against the legalization of MEDICAL marijuana.
This not my wing of the Democratic Party. I’ll toss it out there, but unless there is thunderous desire, I’m not sure I will even attend.
Peale
Phooey. I will be in Wisconsin the weekend before memorial day. Otherwise, I might travel down to the big city to join in.

And even more painful NC Gov. McCory says Congress should lead on anti-discrimination legislation. And he is right but no harm in having NC show the way forward rather than backward. I thought McCory had a backbone but I guess he had to have it removed so Art Pope could attach the strings.

@Gian: Where is Cole on this? The guy is a Dem who wants u limited carry. The escaping rats are infecting us. Just when we got rid of Lieberman.
Would love to get together but mostly out of the city on weekends. When do we get a meet up in Barryville or Narrowsburg New York?
NYCMT
Barryville! Narrowsburg! (that would be the Eldred Preserve, right?) (Ich bin auf Liberty geboren, vor dem abendrot des Borscht Belts.)
If there’s something, this mostly lurker will train in from Forest Hills.
Scamp Dog
@NYCMT: What’s abendrot? My high school German is failing me here, and Google translate is no help.
NYCMT
@Scamp Dog abendrot – “evening red” . Dusk. As I grew up, the Jewish Alps crumbled and collapsed. Twelve years after my bar mitzvah at the Concord, there was nothing where we danced except weeds and stray bits of aggregate. Thirty years ago, one could do a great meetup at El Monaco’s in White Lake, or Singer’s in Liberty. Now? Ted’s in Jeffersonville?
Kitts
I’m a total lurker, but I might be able to make it in from New Jersey around then.
Robin Gittelman
I’m a long-time lurker, but the Friday before Memorial Day would be great! Stating a preference for Midtown.
NYCMT
@efgoldman: uh, where is that? [ggogles] Are you thinking of somewhere in the Adirondacks?
daveNYC
Pre-Memorial Day and I can probably show up. Hell’s Kitchen or near Koreatown probably work best for the various subway lines and PATH.
Someplace with outdoor seating wouldn’t be bad if we wish to chance the weather gods.
satby
I won’t be anywhere near there, sadly; but happy to see some of the lurkers say they’re going. Meet ups are fun and a gateway to join the rest of us chatty Cathies making comments here. Srsly.
Gary
I think I’ll probably be able to make it.
RedDirtGirl
So, it’s sounding like Friday, May 20th might be a good date for several of us. And Midtown and Hell’s Kitchen were also mentioned. I’m a Brooklyn girl, myself, so don’t know those areas too well, but I’m sure there are plenty of good options around there.
PurpleGirl
@NYCMT: Do you know where Greenvilkle is? There is a restaurant, attached to a golf course there (Rainbow Lodge) that my parents used to go to for vacations. The place was still there 4 years ago.
PurpleGirl
@RedDirtGirl: I have to track down the name of the place we went to a couple of times. They have a second floor that they gave us for a few hours. It was in the West 50s, just off 8th Avenue.
ETA: Anybody remember the name?
Johannes
I think la Caterina and I could attend. We’d love to see the BJers again.
NYCMT
@PurpleGirl: I do know where Greenville is! But Greenville is way up north of Wyndham and Cairo, almost as far in a straight line from my hometown as is Binghamton (over the Peekamoose and roundabout past Shokan, or, alternately through Claryville and then Big Indian and Shandaken which honestly I love that drive but it is in the deep arse end of nowhere up there. Proximal nowhere is where we go wild blueberry picking in late July, but distal nowhere, that’s Spalding Gray Terrors of Pleasure land. )
Ivan X
I’m in! Whatever weekend. It’s not Hamptons season yet. Just kidding, I’ve never been to the Hamptons. I like the city when everyone leaves.
bystander
@NYCMT: Your knowledge is far more extensive than mine, and I’ve been going there on weekends for almost 16 years. Still many sleep away camps for city kids, but the whole families spending all summer in the proto-communes has vanished. (I do wonder how much of the New Left of the 60s got its start in those social incubators.)
jayackroyd
Hell’s Kitchen? Rudy’s?
nycmt
@bystander: I grew up up there – whatever socialism there was in the sleepaway camps and bungalow colonies, we didn’t see much of as locals. Communitarian stuff? Sure. But the mountain yidn were pretty fiercely competitive.
