Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

No one could have predicted…

When do the post office & the dmv weigh in on the wuhan virus?

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Let’s finish the job.

I really should read my own blog.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

“woke” is the new caravan.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

    Sharks – Penguins would be an attractive final series.

    We had Game 2 of Toronto/Cleveland last night and Game 3 of that series is tomorrow night…

    …but we have to wait for Game 3 for GS/OKC until Sunday. Why the long break for this series? Game 3 should be tonight.

    I think Cleveland wins the whole thing and Cleveland burns before Donald gets there.

    WTF happened with Matt Bruenig? Can someone fill me in? Lots of angry people on Twitter.

    I’ve just read the synopsis at Gawker. I’ve always disagreed with going after people’s jobs for completely unrelated stuff they say on Twitter, but he did go after another prog org.

    @efgoldman:

    Because Sunday ratings … are higher.

    OK, but the Saturday game could be GS/OKC and Sunday be Toronto/Cleveland; it’s just odd the latter series gets such a long break (especially given Curry is a little gimpy still so lucky break for them).

    I don’t see OKC beating the Warriors but they could use all the help in scheduling they can get.

    @Amanda in the South Bay: funny how you hear, “Hey it’s election season. People are going to throw elbows. Politics ain’t beanbag.” And then when people hit back there’s non stop whining.

    Fuck Bruenig. Whiny ass titty baby. It’s moronic when people talking about stupid entitled millennials, and it’s just as offensive when it goes the other way.

    Off-topic, but somewhat sports related:
    Boxer Manny Pacquiao, a member of the Philippines House of Representatives since 2010, has been elected to the country’s Senate. He’s considered a political lightweight, not least because he often misses House sessions to prepare for fights. But in theory he could run for president in 2022, the first election after he turns 40 and becomes eligible for that office.

    @Amir Khalid: @efgoldman: Is he still positioning himself as a god botherer to keep his wife from actually divorcing him and taking him for everything he’s worth over his affairs and gambling?

  12. 12.

    Amir Khalid

    May 20, 2016 at 9:45 pm

    @efgoldman:
    Yep, that Duterte guy. In the Philippines you only serve one six-year term as president, so whoever Manny goes up against it won’t be Duterte.
    @Adam L Silverman:
    According to Wikipedia, his wife has said she’s dealt with the matter. Since she’s in politics herself, there maybe some kind of Hillary-Bill like deal involved with divorce off the table for now.
    Maybe his recent homophobic remarks were part of the god-bothering shtick.

    @efgoldman:

    …the much more compelling series.

    I would have guessed Lebron would have been the bigger draw….

    …but Toronto isn’t a match for Cleveland (talk about taking it good and hard), so maybe the other series is the bigger draw.

    @LAO:

    Thanks. Draw is fucked up. Her team is the top seed, but Illinois doesn’t re-seed after sectionals, so they had to play the 3 seed in the quarters, and now they have to play the two seed in the semis. If one were of the tinfoil-hat persuasion, one might think that the system is rigged in favor of the Chicago Catholic schools at the expense of the suburban public schools.
