Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

This fight is for everything.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

This really is a full service blog.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

Hey Washington Post, “Democracy Dies in Darkness” was supposed to be a warning, not a mission statement.

Today’s gop: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

Republicans firmly believe having an abortion is a very personal, very private decision between a woman and J.D. Vance.

“Perhaps I should have considered other options.” (head-desk)

Dear legacy media: you are not here to influence outcomes and policies you find desirable.

People are complicated. Love is not.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

It’s all just conspiracy shit beamed down from the mothership.

Jack be nimble, jack be quick, hurry up and indict this prick.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

Will Brazil manage to get out quickly or will there be an upset? Will Brazilian fans be willing to stay up from eleven p.m. to one a.m. to watch a team that has provided precious little other than disappointments recently?

Yellow jerseys? I know Ecuador are wearing red socks (and have a sash), but it just looks like two kits of Brazil out there otherwise.

FS1 has this one, so the jibberjabber is in English if I want it.

Brazil fans can always watch Les Bleu prepare for what could a European Title on home turf if they don’t want to watch their squad.

    France looks mighty dangerous

I don’t watch the sportsball, so since this is an open thead I’ll get something off my mind.

I don’t comment here often, but I have been following this blog since 2008. For a year I’ve been working in a hospital as an NA, working to get a BSN or Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (haven’t decided yet).

I’ve essentially dedicated my life to helping people. And part of that is seeing people suffering and die. And it’s hard.

But today I absolutely lost it on someone who accused me of calluding with Bug Pharma to harm people because I didn’t automatically by claims of universal cancer vaccines (cancer f*cking sucks) or any of their “medical” marijuana mumbo-jumbo (not discounting any therapeutic or potential medicinal uses for compounds derived from marijuana–but it does NOT treat cancer).

I just lost it. I’ve heard so many times I’m a shill for big pharma because I insist on a skeptical science-based outlook on medicine. But to hear I am actively willfully harming people–

Well, today I learned my limits.

Well, today I learned my limits.

A lot of weird political interactions today. I got a call at work with a recorded message, “Obama is a traitor something something Bowe Bergdahl.” Also, Chipotle shamed the pork industry in its radio ads. Then, to top it all off, I almost got kicked out of my house for receiving a Hillary sticker in the mail.

Hillary won the Virgin Islands. Looks like the delegate split will be 6-1.

Brazil got a bit lucky with the goalie flubbing that cross into the net, though the linesman’s flag was already up. Otherwise, it’s been a meh day at the Copa. Very ‘first match of the group stage’, where you play for a point and hope for a win.

Mexico-Uruguay tomorrow looks like a genuinely tasty match. Hope it turns out that way.

@Jeff Spender: I’m a,little late but I hear you. I have spent my career in cancer research and I am now just a few years from retirement. I got into cancer research in my sophomore year of high school when one of my best friends convinced me to take a test for a research scholarship. He smoked like a chimney and we laughed that I would find the cure for lung cancer to save him. Forty years later we weren’t laughing when he got cancer (not lung cancer). Despite all the work I and many others had done in those 40 years there wasn’t a damn thing I or anyone else could do for him and it hurt like hell. There are lot’s of cancer researchers who die of cancer or have loved ones die. I understand when someone is faced with that situation it is tempting to believe there is a conspiracy and that everything can be fixed by breaking the conspiracy, but the cowardly keyboard commands that go on about how easy it is to cure cancer or other diseases can DIAF. If you want to accuse me of letting my friend die on purpose, say it to my face so I can kick your ass. More importantly, if you think it is so easy to find cures, DO IT or STFU. So Jeff you are not alone. I have the highest respect for people who deal with reality without running away or giving false hope. I hope you keep at it for a long time, but I know it is draining. I’m old enough that I don’t have any more fucks to give, so if you want someone to rant at the clowns you have to put up, I’m at your service.
