All things considered, @DavidAFrench is probably right that ballot access is not #NeverTrump's greatest obstacle. pic.twitter.com/NfbUSmscQb

Sure, we could run against The Most Dangerous Man in American Politics, but…
Literally every one of those people has spent considerable time fantasizing abt running for president. Won't get a better chance than this!

In spite of questioning Trump's temperament and calling Curiel comments "inexcusable," Gingrich told Fox he "can support Trump all year."
— Sopan Deb (@SopanDeb) June 5, 2016
At the very least, the Repubs in power are more interested in keeping their own current high-dollar, low-effort jobs than in actually preventing the monster they denounce from taking power… and their party.
I wish GOP leaders were more concerned about Trump's racist views than the fact he keep saying them out loud and making them uncomfortable
— Dan Pfeiffer (@danpfeiffer) June 5, 2016
Or then again, maybe they’re just bigots like Donald Trump, but with better filters and a bigger vocabulary.
Omnes Omnibus
Yep.

It’s odd that the party who talks so much about principles seems to be filled with people that have none.
jl
Baud! 2016! is available. If can’t run Dem, why not as an indie spoiler aimed at GOP and Trump.
Baud is the only candidate who could out-outrage and completely overshadow Trump, depending on how much of Baud! 2016! campaign could get by censors, or even be mentioned on air. That would be a big challenge, but one that could be met with enough downers and decaf.
Edit: I bet we wouldn’t even have to get Baud! 2016! a bath or a shave to do well.
Scott
We’ve GOT to get Bill Kristol to predict a Trump landslide.
Sloegin
Bill ‘always wrong’ Kristol is wrong again? That’s just highly… plausible.
rikyrah
They have no POLICY differences with Trump.
They are mad at him for not speaking in Frank Luntz approved dogwhistles. These give the GOP, the MSM, and those idiot “independent voters ” cover.
THAT is the issue.
Omnes Omnibus
@rikyrah: You do realize that no one here has disagreed with that view ever.

these guys are an absolute parody of a political party… they’ve become the antithesis of a party of principals, they’ve become the party of “whatever the Democrats want, we’re against it”. Period. they have no moral compass, no abiding principals, they’ve chucked those away and have done everything but look into the camera for their Johnny Rotten moment. Yet the media STILL refuses to call them out on it…
family values… yeah, Donald Trump, the standard bearer for family values
business is good – yet here’s a guy who’s skipped out on four failed businesses and has stated that he would kick America’s standing in the world and default on our debt, because that’s how he does business.
measured foreign policy has now become, bomb anyone who isn’t like us and if our allies don’t like it, well, we can bomb them too
We used to think the GOP was for sale, I guess we’re a bit late on that because its already been sold and the guy who they nominated would like to flip it if the price is right.
Suzanne
Yes.
Major Major Major Major
I wish they gave you stickers for voting by mail.
Suzanne
@rikyrah: Yes. They also don’t like him because he is not more refined. He is coarse and gross and he makes them so by association.
It’s all about class (real or perceived) with these fuckers.
? Martin
@rikyrah:
There is no policy commonality. Trump has no principles, he’s all over the map on policy. That just means he’ll sign anything then send him.
The only thing they agree with Trump on is his ability to get votes, which is the only real principle they have. Having principles means giving up on some personal benefit for a larger cause. The GOP leadership is being extremely clear that the only thing they care about is the votes – everything else is negotiable. Worse, they’re willing to sell out the next how many elections in the hope they’ll win this one? Trump isn’t a disaster for 2016, he’s probably a disaster through 2024. How long will it take for Latinos to return to the GOP? How long for women to return? If the party leadership rejected this more forcefully, and were willing to give up on 2016, then they may come back. The could argue it was just the candidate but not the party. I don’t see how they make that argument on the trajectory they’re on. It’s obvious the party is cool with this.
aarrgghh
the gop’s only goal is clinging onto power, even if they have to hang onto its ass end with just their lips.
NotMax
Consistency, thy name is Kristol.
Maybe he can inveigle Douglas Feith* into running.

@Major Major Major Major: There’s a small reward for actually getting off your ass and going to the polling place.
? Martin
@BillinGlendaleCA: My polling place is in a retirement home. They always have goodies for the voters. I usually spend an extra half hour or more walking around and talking to people there. They seem to really like the new company and especially love it when you bring your kids.
amk
And here I thought that mcangry had plumbed the depths of gutless, gutter politics with tundra twit.
What a party of corrupt cowardly clowns.
BillinGlendaleCA
@? Martin: We used to vote at a retirement home around the corner from our house when we lived up in the hill country. Now I walk a couple of blocks to the fire station.
BillinGlendaleCA
@NotMax: Temporary?
EconWatcher
Can’t get my mind off those attacks on the federal judge. This is really a ball-game changer. I think journalists really need to zero in on that in their questions to elected Republicans who have endorsed Trump. Is it acceptable for the nominee of your party to claim a judge is biased based on his ethnic heritage? A judge who served for two decades as a federal prosecutor, whose life was threatened by Mexican cartels
Ruckus
@Major Major Major Major:
I got a sticker with my mail in ballot. Do you want mine?
Ruckus
@EconWatcher:
If they think it will bring in votes they will do it. Not just bite the heads off but eat live chickens on TV, elect drumpf, profess to being religious, whatever. They want power to protect their grift. That is the extent of their policies and governing process. Everything else is secondary.
Ruckus
@rikyrah:
You are right that they have no policy differences.
As I said, it doesn’t matter to them about policies, as long as whatever it takes to protect their grift happens, nothing else is important. Sure they will fight against liberal policies but that isn’t because of the policy, it is because it might ruin the grift. They don’t disagree with drumpf because that might/would ruin whatever grift they are in the middle of. TPTB in the republican party give a shit about themselves, nothing and no one else.
Kropadope
@EconWatcher:
Well, he is a Republican, so as far as the media and elected Republicans are concerned, it’s all OK.
hellslittlestangel
Republicans everywhere are edging away from Trump. I can’t wait to see who is the shameless, craven shit-head willing to be his running mate.
TriassicSands
@? Martin:
Or he could veto almost anything they send him. There is simply no way to predict what Trump will do. I think that is something that really worries the party of no principles.
rachel
@hellslittlestangel:
At the moment. Most of them will still admit they’ll support him when the time comes. Like Putin and Kim Jong Un, they think they might be able to manage him; they know they’ll be less likely to control a Dem.
Central Planning
@BillinGlendaleCA:
They moved our voting place from the firehall to a church. I wonder if any district in any state votes in a mosque.
Van Buren
I’m just going to sit here and wait for the bothsidesdoit spin…
hellslittlestangel
@rachel: When you’re admitting that you support someone, your support isn’t worth much. This fall’s hot fashion in Republican circles will be the shit-eating grin — they’ll all be wearing one.
Origuy
@Central Planning:
In Dallas, of all places.
SFAW
@hellslittlestangel:
Actually, the Rethug population of shameless, craven shit-heads that would NOT be willing to be his running mate is probably a tiny fraction of the Rethug population that WOULD be willing.
Or were you under the impression that any of them has anything approaching integrity?
Central Planning
@Origuy: I am pleasantly surprised! Thanks for the info!

@amk: That’s korrupt kowardly klowns.

Now that practically every Republican who still hopes to win another election someday has fallen in and supported Trump, Job #2 for the Dems (after Job #1, beating Trump) is to hang Trump around the collective necks of the GOP.
