Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

You’re just a puppy masquerading as an old coot.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

“Perhaps I should have considered other options.” (head-desk)

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

Hey hey, RFK, how many kids did you kill today?

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

If you don’t believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love isn’t freedom, it is privilege.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

It is not hopeless, and we are not helpless.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

Republicans in disarray!

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

Giving in to doom is how we fail to fight for ourselves & one another.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Come on, man.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

LA Area Meet-Up, Wednesday Evening, June 8

Commentor Ruckus sent me an email — Sempronia wanted to do a post-primary meetup in LA (before S. moves out of the area). Plans are being made for Wednesday evening in Old Town Pasadena.

Who’s up for a spur-of-the-moment celebration?

    Unfortunately not me. I’m out of town at a meeting right now.

    I’d love to, but OC to Pasadena on a weeknight can easily be two hours. Another time. Sorry.

    I feel like there’s something I’m supposed to do on Wednesday night, but I can’t remember what it is. Any ideas about where to meet? The patio of the Dog Haus Biergarten might not be a bad spot — it’s more of a restaurant than a bar, if that matters.

    Another possibility — King’s Row Gastropub, which also has a nice patio.

    There should be a meet-up in Pittsburgh after the Pens win the Cup.

    Lucky Baldwins, Kings Row Gastropub, and Urth Cafe are also options. Ruckus requested someplace not too loud, despite his nym.

    Crud. The last LA meetup I missed due to school obligations and now I’m going to be out of town. I feel so deprived!

    @sempronia:

    The Lucky Baldwin’s in Old Town is too loud/crowded, IMO. If we want to go further afield, the Lucky Baldwin’s Trappiste down by PCC is a lot quieter.

    @Fair Economist: You’ll just have to announce one of your own, when it’s more convenient.

    Keep me in the loop, everybody (annelaurie at verizon dot net) and I’ll post an update tomorrow evening / Wednesday morning!

    I was kind of thinking of going to the coast/Getty/UCLA to take some pics. We’ll see.

    @Mnemosyne: I’m happy with Kings Row or Dog Haus in Old Town, if you think they would be better. I haven’t been to either place.

    Man, I asked for it, but I can’t do this Wednesday. I’m not that booked, but I generally need more than two days notice.

    I can make it. I like Urth cafe, but not sure how loud/crowded that would be. I’m not familiar with the others, but will be happy to try any.

    OT mostly – but meetup related, were there ever any pix for the Arizona meetup ? I was at work and missed out but would like to see them if any were posted.

    Hard to create a ruckus when everyone else already is!

    ETA Off to work now, will check back this evening. May go tonight to an after election vote watching party.

    @sempronia:

    I vote for Kings Row. It’s a bar (with food) so they’ll let us sit there as long as we want, and they have both inside and outside seating. The service isn’t great, but we’re planning to take up space anyway.

    Who’s bringing the green balloons?

    I should be able to make it. I’m downtown in a hearing for most of the day, but should be able to cruise by.

    Felanius Kootea

    I have to attend one of these but I can’t make it Wednesday. I’m close to Venice; getting to Pasadena is a nightmare – taking the 405, 105 and 110 after work on a weeknight is no fun. If you ever have one in Santa Monica, Culver City, or Venice, I’m there – many great restaurants in those areas.

  26. 26.

    Ruckus

    June 7, 2016 at 1:15 pm

    @Felanius Kootea:
    If you started at noon you could make it.
    Snark aside I have to go the reverse regularly and it is a tough slog.

    Okay then, how’s 6:30 for people? Kings Row Gastropub is at 20 E. Colorado Blvd. in downtown Pasadena. You can take the Gold Line to Memorial Park or Del Mar stations, or park in the Green St. structure, which offers 1.5 hrs free parking.

    June 7, 2016 at 4:01 pm

    @sempronia:
    6:30 may be a little early for some I should be able to make it through.
