Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Books are my comfort food!

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

Come on, man.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

Jesus watching the most hateful people claiming to be his followers

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

Petty moves from a petty man.

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

It’s pointless to bring up problems that can only be solved with a time machine.

EXCLUSIVE: Warren will endorse HRC on Rachel Maddow's show TONIGHT at 9 p.m.

— Annie Linskey (@AnnieLinskey) June 9, 2016

From the hometown paper, the Boston Globe:

Senator Elizabeth Warren is planning to endorse Hillary Clinton tonight in an appearance on MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show, according to a Warren adviser.

Warren moved up her timeline to endorse Clinton — she had initially planned to do it next week…

Apart from some hard-earned celebration, what’s on the agenda for the evening?

WHITE HOUSE PRESS SECRETARY: Michelle Obama endorses Hillary Clinton along with the President. Michelle will speak about this at events.

SO HAPPY! OK, I’ll lower my voice. So, so, happy. Can someone please film Bernie staggering around like Red Foxx, clutching his chest and wailing. Because I am so sick of that guy. I stand by my earlier comments–there is and always will be something absolutely enraging about the way this old white fart tried to use the President of the United States as his errand boy to negotiate with the future First Madame President of the United States. He can’t exit, stage left, pursued by a bear, fast enough for me.

Longtime lurker, rare commenter here. After 2 miscarriages and a year of thinking we were infertile, my husband and I are now into 16 weeks of a new pregnancy. I found out on Tuesday that we are expecting a girl. Getting the news at the same time of Hillary’s historic candidacy has made me very thoughtful and hopeful. DH is black and I am white, so not only will our biracial daughter have the legacy of Obama but also Hillary (I hope) as examples of how far she can reach. As apprehensive as I am about raising a little black girl in this country, it is good to have hope that things can get better.

I think we are living in interesting times, and they will get interestinger for a bit more–whether the cause is domestic or foreign remains to be seen. Anyone who can take the abuse that Sec. Clinton has received for over 30 years and still wants to be in the public life is capable of handling those interesting times.

No one would have objected had Sec. Clinton left State in 2012 to become a grandmother and author. Or author and grandmother. Whichever.

But what’s nice about Perez is that he can build bridges to that segment _and also_ others. The cool thing about Perez from a political strategy standpoint is that he’s a civil rights guy, a labor guy, a liberal guy, a (relatively) young guy (for a politician), and a person of color. I don’t know anything negative about him. I hope it stays that way.

I’m happy too. This is her time. I supported Obama in 08 and have never regretted that choice. I had no animosity toward Hillary and I’ve never questioned the fact that she is a liberal. I just felt deep down that despite the arguments about experience that people liked to throw around, 08 was his time. He was the right candidate for that moment in history. And now, with her husband’s presidency nearly another decade in the rear view mirror and his general absence from the campaign trail, this about her. She is the right person for this moment in history.

Otherwise, it’s WAY too obvious that you’re working from the same sheet of talking points.

I forget, are those talking points supposedly coming from the Trump campaign, Green Party HQ, or the Sanders campaign? I’ve been accused of being paid by so many different people, I sometimes lose track of what lunatic conspiracy theory I’m being accused in this time.

    @Major Major Major Major:

Can anybody explain to me how one can self-fund a campaign legally?

I’ve missed the context for this.

Candidates can spend as much of their own money as they want because “money = speech”. So there’s nothing wrong with self-funding a campaign.

Why are you asking? Am I missing something?

Thanks for all the lovely kind wishes! I am due around Thanksgiving, so I am looking forward to volunteering for Hillary here in Virginia and seeing her elected before my baby girl comes into the world. The alternative does not bear contemplating.

Side note: with my husband being black, an immigrant (from Africa), and (nominally) Muslim, the Trump stuff is personal. I have zero patience for privileged folks who “don’t see any difference” between our choices in November. For some of us and our families it is existential.

A Muslim funeral for Muhammad Ali on Thursday drew thousands of admirers to the boxer’s hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, where mourners prayed over the body of a man who battled in the ring and sought peace outside it.

An estimated 14,000 people, representing many races and creeds, attended the jenazah, or funeral in Arabic, where he was repeatedly feted as “the people’s champion….”

Imam Zaid Shakir, a founder of Muslim liberal arts school Zaytuna College in Berkeley, California, led worshippers in prayers such as “Allahu akbar” (“God is greatest”) over Ali’s body, which lay in a casket covered with a black and gold cloth.

Ali and his family planned his funeral for 10 years, making sure it would honor his Muslim faith while also adapting to the demands of Western media-driven culture.

He was due to be buried on Friday, after a funeral procession and before one final goodbye when thousands more will gather for an interfaith service.

A Muslim funeral in Louisville, KY. Imagine that.

    Still the greatest.

    Please proceed, Mr. Trump.

Mario’s screen at the Consol Center has already gotten so crowded that Mario has gotten permission from the city to set up a second big screen outdoors in Market Square to accommodate the crowd. If they win tonight, the city will be insane. Our teams have won numerous World Series, Super Bowls and Stanley Cups in my lifetime. But none have them have won a championship at home since the Pirates won the Series in 1960. I was only two at the time and don’t remember it, but I remember people talking about it and have seen film of it. The place went nuts…in a good way. I’m hoping for that to happen tonight.

As thread after thread has shown, this place would have nothing to say if they couldn’t express their hatred for Sanders and anyone who backs him. Cole might actually sustain injuries from all the bile build-up. What’s the good of the country compared to that?

I usually ignore you, but what is your point?

You show up and say the same thing over and over: Balloon-Juice is Hill-bot central, we are closed minded for wanting this two year long Presidential primary to finally be over, and we are mean to you.

I don’t get what you hope to accomplish.

P.S. One reason people got sick of the Sanders campaign and supporters is recycling right-wing talking points about how corrupt the Clintons are. Do you know there’s only ONE SCANDAL WHERE A CLINTON WAS GUILTY? One. And that’s Bill lying to his wife about having an affair. Tens of millions of dollars and years of investigations have proven the Clintons get accused of a lot of shit they did not do. And yet this makes them corrupt.

PPS: Making millions off of book deals and speaking fees is not corrupt. You may not approve of people making millions, but that’s your opinion; and not an actual definition of corruption.

So here’s a thing that seems somehow relevant. Last night I posted an invitation on FB for my Bernie-or-bust pals to engage in a discussion about why. I disclosed that I was originally Bern-curious but now #I’mWithHer, forbid any links to memes or pundits, just invited arguments. Mostly I was interested in whether these mostly young, very passionate people were really gonna bern it down. Interesting thing happened.

I got lots of “likes” from women, young and old, for my parts of the arguments that ensued. Only men argued with me. The young ones just explained what they liked about Bernie and then said “But of course I’m voting for Hillary.” Only two people were assholes (by which I mean one told me to fuck off in my own FB living room when I asked him if he had facts, and one lectured me about how stupid it is to negotiate with an eye toward compromise like that weak-ass Hillary). Both are white males somewhere north of 40.

I’m now less worried about losing the Youngs.

N.B. This comment is not Bernie-bashing. It’s not Bernie-supporter-bashing. It’s just me bashing two individual assholes, and taking comfort in the thoughtfulness of most Bernie supporters in my FacebookSphere.

There’s probably a million ways to skirt the rules, and the FEC doesn’t have enough of a budget (any budget?) for enforcement, so there you go.

I ran for a municipal office years ago. I printed some of my brochures on a copier at the office, Being basically honest, I reported that to my state board of elections, or whatever it is. Oh, wow! To see him in person in that defining role!

I’ve probably told this story before, so feel free to ignore it if it sounds familiar, but my voice teacher (college) had enjoyed a bit of a Broadway career and was the understudy for Gertrude Lawrence (the original Anna Leonowens). When GL left the show in 1952 because of what turned out to be her final illness, my teacher, Annamary Dickey, took over the role for a few performances.

She related the story that in one scene the King walks menacingly toward Mrs. Anna and she takes several steps backwards. Well, Annamary accidentally stepped on the hoop of her costume’s petticoat and fell kaboom! on her butt. Yul Brynner as King walked toward her and extended a hand to help her up, but shortly thereafter, offstage, he was clearly furious about the incident. Of course Annamary felt terrible, was sure the great star was incensed with her. But when she timidly apologized he told her he wasn’t mad at her — he was mad at himself for breaking character.

“The King of Siam would never have demeaned himself by assisting a woman! I should have clapped for a servant to come on stage and help you up!” Staying in character no matter what — one of the fundamental rules of the theatre. And even the great Yul Brynner forgot it, briefly.

I do kinda like the symbolic value of the two screaming angerbeasts ranting at everyone here — between them posting as much as everyone else combined — and they’re bitching about how overwhelmed they are by sore winners. Meanwhile, I posted a story [#108, if anyone cares] about how awesome lots of Bernie supporters are being, with just a few real assholes, as we move to the general — and do these jamokes notice or comment or anything? Nope. They ignore it, just like they ignore everything except each other and anyone who responds directly to them. These guys are not interested in anything that doesn’t blow their own personal skirts up.

And I bet I’m now one of the Evil Oppressive Team Hillary Bernie-Haters just for mentioning it.

Honestly though, if you’re so depressed by commenting here, why not do something — anything! — else. Visit a museum. Go for a bike ride. Eat ice cream with your bare hands. Contemplate the starry universe hanging upside down from a jungle gym, lightly stroking your nipples*. Something! Anything!
