I’m guessing that it will be an easy game for the French as Romania has not been the same since Gheorge Hagi retired. Add your thoughts!

    I once went to a regatta and was totally Romania. Oar else I have misforgotten. Maybe it was me eating lots of caviar. Wade a minute, this is about soccer?

    Let’s get this party started!

    France 3-1 Romania, unless something goes terribly wrong for Les Bleus.

    Okay, so the French are Liverpoolesque with corners. Good to know. How that first chance didn’t bulge the net though I have no idea, what a save by Hugo.

    There doesn’t appear to be much of a desire to score by either team.

    Giroud, you SUCK. Free header from nine yards, dead center, missed high.

    Damn, did not expect a scoreless half by the French. They seem to always underperform, 1998 excepted.

    Curse of the first game in these tournaments. It’s always the hosts and they always, always , always tense up with the weight of expectation. Romania aren’t playing badly (they’ve been unlucky to get hit with so many yellow cards) and they had the best chance of the game early on but Pogba and Payet – should – be carving them open with ease and regularity.

    Let’s hope the half time break lets the French collect themselves and concentrate on what they do well. But if the Romanians score first…

    France are starting to play a bit and BANG, there you go. The keeper should have got there first but wimped out horribly. Come on man, you’re 6ft plus and not too pretty, you’re supposed to make that ball yours. When was the last time you saw a goalkeeper booked for barging a striker out of the way?

    Romania need the hit back sharpish or my prediction is back on,

    @burnspbesq:

    You poke your foot out like that at a goal-bound opponent in the penalty area and nine times out of ten they’ll go down and the ref will point at the spot. There was contact, that’s all it takes.

    Fair result. A game of few chances, but France took one more of theirs. They shouldn’t have much trouble progressing from the group.

    Now on to tomorrow and three matches, including Bales v Slovakia and the latest installment in England’s perennial challenge to not be totally shite at a major tournament. We’re playing Russia though, so I expect we’ll have The Comrade from Portland popping into the thread to let us know how playing a diamond formation in midfield is clearly a CIA plot. Good times ahead. Allez!
