Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

This really is a full service blog.

That meeting sounds like a shotgun wedding between a shitshow and a clusterfuck.

The way to stop violence is to stop manufacturing the hatred that fuels it.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

Every reporter and pundit should have to declare if they ever vacationed with a billionaire.

Be a wild strawberry.

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

Cancel the cowardly Times and Post and set up an equivalent monthly donation to ProPublica.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

Come on, man.

The willow is too close to the house.

’Where will you hide, Roberts, the laws all being flat?’

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

The only way through is to slog through the muck one step at at time.

How stupid are these people?

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

SCOTUS: It’s not “bribery” unless it comes from the Bribery region of France. Otherwise, it’s merely “sparkling malfeasance”.

    Chile, all class that lot.

Speaking of class and wonderful spontaneous celebration, here are the Icelanders getting their street dance on now that the knockout rounds are on. (it’s really fun)

To add to the fun the Irish brought their celebration to the round of 16 as well turning one street into a bullring and then for the second time in the past two weeks, performing some street-side car repair as the rest of the gang found a beautiful girl to serenade and we remember the love they showed to grandma and grandpa ahead of the Sweden match in Paris.

    Slainte!

    Chile!

How was that not a penalty? The Colombian player ran over and body checked the Chileno.

Now the game is delayed for 30 minutes? Anybody knows what is going to happen if they can’t resume it tonight?

When the World Cup was in the US some years ago, the Brazilian team was based in Los Gatos, CA. It’s kind of a party town anyway, with several bars along the main drag. With the Brazilians there, it was nuts.

@Onkel Fritze: If it’s lightning there may be a 20-minute delay after the all-clear is sounded. So depends on when those clouds we saw in the opening panoramic shot of the stadium pass through.

@humboldtblue: Not really an answer, since my question was what happens if they don’t resume?

@Onkel Fritze: Sorry, I can only assume that if the match is suspended it will be re-started as soon as possible the following day but that can also be dependent on how much time has passed. This suspension happened at halftime so they will re-start from halftime when the weather allows. That could be in an hour or tomorrow, but they will play the second half.

If they can’t play it tonight, it’ll be restarted at 2pm local time. In a normal league match, it’d probably be an abandonment and a replay (which would suck for Chile) but tournament rules apply here.

There we go again. The wet pitch is not going to work to Colombia’s advantage, having to catch up 2 goals. My commentators here on Colombian TV are currently going nuts, saying that should have been a penalty.

And it’s over. 1 man and 2 goals down against Chile, no way.
