In honor of the lack of order in the House of Representatives at this early hour, below are three clips of my favorite Speaker of the House of Parliamentary laying the smacketh down! I’m off to bed.

Thanks Adam!
Soooo, what’s new with everybody? I had a wonderful evening of obsessively tweeting and also I cooked dinner at some point.

Well, I’ve been enjoying the speeches of the California delegation in the House. Especially Takano. Not bad at all for someone only on his second term.
eta I had a moment, much earlier in the evening, where I realized I’d neglected my eight-year old daughter’s education. When Zoe Lofgren came on I told her, that’s our Congresswomen. She replied, “I thought we were voting for Hillary Clinton.” So, yeah, I need to work on that whole Schoolhouse Rock thing.

@SoupCatcher: Aw, she’s eight, she’s got time! Keep up the good work! You should also tell her that ‘we’ aren’t voting for anybody since eight-year-olds don’t vote :P

@Major Major Major Major: Tribalism starts at home ;-)
Elizabelle
@SoupCatcher: I love the “we”. What a cool kid.
Off to school. Hope the Dems are still sitting in and being (righteously) outrageous when I return in a few hours. Good on them.

@SoupCatcher: voting fraud! libs in the act enfranchising 8 year olds!

@Major Major Major Major:
I got a new iPhone at long last — I’ve been limping along on a 16GB 4S for years. It’s pretty and shiny and pink (because all of the other colors were sold out) and her name is Eliza.
But I do have to work in the morning, so I have to wander off to bed now. If anyone needs to tell the NRA troll to fuck off, here’s my list of mass shootings compiled by the LA Times.

@Mnemosyne:
We’re down to one?
Nite!

What an amazing night and tomorrow will be interesting. Expecting some yoooge tweets.

@Elizabelle:
Aw, thanks! We’re quite proud of her.
eta Oh, snap. Republicans figured out that social media exists.
eta And another DWS sighting.
NotMax
Talk about a cognitive disconnect. Front page displaying a video from J. Geils Band. British history not my forte, but stand on fairly firm ground in positing that none of them are or have been Members of Parliament.
:)

@Mnemosyne
Not Betsy?
Or Schuyler?

@SoupCatcher: social media? What’d they do?
SoupCatcher
@Major Major Major Major: There was some provision they rammed through, right before they brought the gavel down, specifically referencing the periscope/facebook videos.
Mary G
@NotMax: Her other choice was “And Peggy.”

Pelosi was just on, sounds like they might be wrapping up for the night.
eta And, just as I typed that, Maxine Waters says she’s not leaving.
eta California Dems in disarray!
Major Major Major Major
@SoupCatcher: Took them long enough.
Also, what can they do exactly?

I watched some of the sit-in on C-Span and felt proud to be a Democrat. This was followed by phone calls from C-Span viewers about the sit-in, and I felt ashamed to be an American. It was like comments from a right-wing blog come to life. You don’t just read the stupid, you hear the stupid.
SoupCatcher
@Major Major Major Major: I think it was just some general “Stop doing that social media stuff we don’t understand.” But I tend to glaze over every time a Republican in a light-colored suit talks so I’m not sure; I just figure he is trying to sell me a car and I tune out.

@SoupCatcher: Heh. Okay.

John Lewis on teann to rethug cowards. We are not going away. We will see you corrupt cowards again in July.

So, the Brexit voting should begin soon. Fingers crossed that the UK will reject racist bullshit.

@NotMax: Or of Funkadelic, for that matter.

I’ve been watching the coverage of the House on CNN and MSNBC, and I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve heard John Lewis referred to as a ‘civil rights icon’. I’m not saying he isn’t, but it’s weird that the news media has settled on that specific term, ‘icon’. There are other terms that could fit – hero or legend or trailblazer, but no, it’s always ‘icon’. It’s as if Icon has become an official title, like Corporal or Governor.

Caught a bit of libertarian townhall on teann. These guys sound a lot more saner than the deep derp thuglies bench that gop produced this cycle.

The sit-in is some awesome shit. I am very happy for the attention brought to the need for votes on gun legislation, don’t get me wrong. Long overdue. However, I’m also really fucking pleased to see the sit-in overshadow Trump’s weak-ass speech yesterday. He was never going to get much traction out of it anyway, but in the face of everything else gong on, the non-Fox cable nets and beltway reporters in general seem to be giving it a collective “yawn/is that all he’s got?” response. The damn emails, Behghazi!!1!!!111!!, the Clinton Foundation…absent some new info they are rightly pretty bored with that shite.
This thing was/is well-executed all around.

@amk: I know, it’s really weird when the Libertarians start making more sense than the Republicans! Altho’ they have for some time now. I’d be cool with the Republicans imploding and the Libertarians becoming the new mainstream opposition party. At least they know how to make a proper argument!
