Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

“Perhaps I should have considered other options.” (head-desk)

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

So many bastards, so little time.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

People are weird.

“Facilitate” is an active verb, not a weasel word.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

Everybody saw this coming.

Who do you like? My heart says Ireland, but my brain says France.

And a penalty and goal for Ireland at the start. Wow!

You need to say which Ireland team France is playing, methinks. I know Norn Iron is out, but people might not immediately understand that you’re referring to the Republic.

Looks more like. Rugby than football.

@Amir Khalid: I don’t see the confusion. Yesterday I said Northern Ireland and today simply Ireland. I think most people will get the difference.

France looked pretty ragged in the first half.

I haven’t seen a team yet that has caught my fancy, but I’m pretty much “anybody but Portugal” after their charmless performance yesterday. I’m rooting for the underdogs—and good matches, of course.

Griezmann scores again: France pull ahead of the Republic of Ireland.

France aren’t looking so ragged now, with two goals in four minutes.

    @Steeplejack (phone):

I’ve been pulling for Les Bleus (when it doesn’t effect the US, anyway) since WC ’82. It looks like they came out in this half full of esprit de corps or joie de vivre, or Oil of Olay or something. Much better.

Shane Duffy of Ireland is sent off. It would be a shame for Ireland to be eliminated as the fans from Ireland have been the best.

    @Randinho:

Those Irish fans remind me of Packers’ fans at Lambeau, but with more song. :D

Loris saved France’s ass. If he doesn’t get a hand to McClean’s low cross in the 52nd minute, Long has a tap-in and Ireland are up two-nil.
