Me too. Die Mannschaft have four World Cup stars over the Deutscher Fussball-Bund badge on their shirts; the Slovakians have none over their FA badge. Plus, something tells me the Germans haven’t hit top gear yet.

Looks like Germany means business.

great goal from Boateng, although Kozarcik was a little slow getting there
4.
SRW1
Who gave the teams permission to score early in this round?
5.
Temporarily Max McGee (Soon Enough to Be Andy K Again)
I’m with the two of you- not just ’cause Boateng just put Germany up.

Certainly not Tottenham supporters. They know the first half is much, much too soon for a goal.

SRW1
German PK taking in crisis – team advised to avoid shoot outs.

BillCinSD
and a saved penalty, Ozil not very convincing
9.
BillCinSD
@SRW1: they are saving them in case they play England

Amir Khalid
Is Özil fasting today? That was a weak penalty kick.

SRW1
Looks like Germany is working on that record from the NI game of wasted chances.

Benching Götze for Draxler was a good decision. Draxler looks much more dangerous. Maybe Löw has accepted that Götze really isn’t better than Messi.

Mario Gomez makes it a two-nil halftime lead for die Mannschaft. Class will tell.

Kudos to the Germans for going for that second goal in a tournament where so many teams focus on defending. I can’t really blame them if they appear more laid-back in the second half, though.

I thought the Bavarian national spot was ‘Fingerhakeln’. Apparently, Müller can also do it with his foot.

Villago Delenda Est
@Amir Khalid: Germany never hits top gear until some Brazilians foolishly take the field against them, and then they cruise like a Porsche on the Autobahn.
Now if Germany could just somehow uncork Müller’s goal scoring they might have all pieces for the puzzle.

@Amir Khalid: I’m just curious: is being fluent in English helping you with German? I understand Malay isn’t that hard for Westerners to grasp except the total lack of cognates.

Amir Khalid
@Yutsano:
I think it does help. I find Romance languages much harder going. Malay is easier in some ways than European languages (no tenses, no gendered personal pronouns, no word for “to be”) but harder in others (nuances of register can be very tricky).

Maybe Germany’s Messi really is Draxler.

@Villago Delenda Est: Two years ago, definitely; fourteen years ago, definitely not.
Randinho
Draxler gets a goal.

Well deserved. Draxler has been excellent.

Der dritter Tor für Deutschland.

@Randinho: This is now, then was then :D
