Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

They spent the last eight months firing professionals and replacing them with ideologues.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

In after Baud. Damn.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

The revolution will be supervised.

Sometimes the world just tells you your cat is here.

Bad people in a position to do bad things will do bad things because they are bad people. End of story.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Boeing: repeatedly making the case for high speed rail.

They don’t have outfits that big. nor codpieces that small.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

Afternoon Open Thread

Here’s a quick diversion from your daily force-feeding of a shit sandwich of horrible fucking tragic news. Overheard in the grocery store a bit ago:

Kid- 12-13 years old: “Don’t stop, believing…”

Dad: If you keep singing Journey I am going to put you up for adoption.

Kid, singing louder: “HOLD ON TO THE FEELING…”

I’d adopt that kid.

I’m going to take a nap and them immerse myself in a video game where I can just shoot fireballs at everything that sucks.

What a horrible day for Baton Rouge and law enforcement.

About to go into siesta mode myself. “Breaking news” coverage is pissing me off, bloggers are pissing me off, and I can’t find anything soothing on TV. Even the housecat is pissing me off, and she’s asleep. She never lets the news get to her. Stupid housecat.

I was out pulling weeds when The Thing That Happened This Time took place. I should just assume that every time I wake up or make a sandwich someone’s staging a bloodbath in this fucked up country.
I’m going to go look at puppies and kittens until I stop wishing for a meteor.

@Omnes Omnibus: There’s a docu that I saw on the Smithsonian Channel about a search for Richard III grave. The people doing the excavation focus on a what was a church yard and is now parking lot. They were members of the Richard III Society and their agenda is proof that he wasn’t an evil hunchback. It’s an interesting show. They haven’t shown in recently but they have shown it several times.

Survival? Possible, I suppose. But no matter what, they were removed from the board as far as succession was concerned. And would they have outlived Richard without regaining freedom?

Ah, I ran across this tidbit:

An obstinate minority of enthusiasts (known as Ricardians) insist that Richard III did not kill the Princes in the Tower; they argue that the princes were still alive on Henry VII’s accession and that it was Henry who killed them to extinguish the Yorkist claim.

I wonder what evidence supports this.

I tend to be on Alison Weir’s side and say that Richard had both the motive and the opportunity. Many of the pro-Richard theories were current before recent research that uncovered contemporary (to them) documents showing that the princes disappearance from the Tower was known internationally while Richard was still on the throne, so the later “Tudor propaganda” claims were overblown.
