Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Just because you believe it, that does not make it true.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

We need to vote them all out and restore sane Democratic government.

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

Michigan is a great lesson for Dems everywhere: when you have power…use it!

Polls are now a reliable indicator of what corporate Republicans want us to think.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

Is Evil Prick Roger Ailes Out at Fox News?

Can it be true? Can the vile body-snatcher who orchestrated the replacement of so many nice nanas and agreeable grampies with angry, sputtering, screechy FoxBots have been shoved out of the Murdoch dirigible with a hefty cash cushion? Maybe! From the Beastly Beast:

Several outlets reported Tuesday that beleagured chairman and CEO Roger Ailes will depart the cable news network following sexual harassment claims by former anchor Gretchen Carlson. According to a document obtained by the Drudge Report, Ailes will receive at least a $40 million buyout from the network. The news comes hours after New York Magazine reporter Gabe Sherman wrote that Fox News star Megyn Kelly told investigators hired by 21st Century Fox that Ailes had sexually harassed her ten years ago.

Fox initially confirmed Drudge’s report to The Daily Beast, and subsequently walked back that confirmation. Additionally, Drudge replaced a headline touting the buyout with a new one on “Fox News Drama,” including a statement from the network: “Roger Ailes has never sexually harassed Megyn Kelly. In fact, he has spent much of the last decade promoting and helping her to achieve the stardom she earned, for which she has repeatedly and publicly thanked him.”

Yeah, women who’ve been sexually harassed never have to make nice with the powerful fucks who demean and humiliate them. Anita Hill can tell you all about that.

Anyhoo, true or not, this is a wonderful time to be alive, comrades, what with the Trump convention imploding like a barrel of rancid haggis and now the possibility of the obliteration of the Fox Death Star. Yub-yub, motherfuckers!

    FROM LUVVIE:

BWA HA HA HA HA HA H AH HA HA HA

Day 1 of Republican National Convention Was An Assemblage of Supreme Fuckshit

Y’all, what in the lowest realm of hell is wrong with the leadership of the Republican National Convention? And how did they manage to start it off so wrong that I’m already tired of their shit? You can’t even make any of this shit up. The fuckery that has already ensued could not have been written by the best comedic writers of our time.

t’s actually tragic because while we’re waiting to see Ashton Kutcher pop up from behind a dumpster whole rocking a Von Dutch Trucker Hat, these shitgibbons are actually running this country, and their Overlord, the Tangerine Douchecanoe is threatening to open the gates of hell if he becomes President.

IT WAS JUST DAY 1, y’all. DAY GAHTDAMN ONE and things have already hit the fan. I could have written 5 separate posts about the highlights of the lowlights but I decided to do a round-up instead, of 5 of the craziest, most mind-numbing, “We are all in trouble” moments. My sympathies to all the Republicans who have enough sense to be embarrassed right now. The three of you are in my thoughts.

Just when I thought the day couldn’t get better, somehow, it has as the ecispling pile of shit called Ailes will no longer block out the Sun.

Pretty hilarious. The person most responsible for today’s republican party isn’t a think tank, or a political or economic principal, or an elected leader, or grassroots forces – no, the person most responsible for the currently state of the GOP is the former producer of a mediocre day time talk show from the early 70s (Ailes).

This just exposes how bankrupt they are on policy and ideas.

The fall of Ailes don’t mean squat. Can you say Rebekah Brooks? She was forced out in disgrace at News of the World. What happened to her? Oh, yeah.

In September 2015, Brooks was confirmed as CEO of News UK, the renamed News International, re-establishing the working relationship with News Corp founder and chairman Rupert Murdoch.

Since then the gop has lost the popular vote 4 of 5 times, and after this fall, 5 of 6 times in presidential elections

Results are what they are. Fox is not helping.

Dubya is right to be concerned he’s the last republican president.

The white vote is shrinking, the minority vote is ascendant, and the gop can not win without minorities who they demonize.

Imagine if the gop passed immigration reform. It would have denied Trump his opening issue (mexicans are rapist/build the wall).

Leslie Jones’ Twitter abuse is a deliberate campaign of hate

This isn’t a harmless prank, this isn’t about hurt feelings or even the sting of a racist comment. This is an attempt to keep us off the internet
    Tuesday 19 July 2016 14.53 EDT

Many on the internet were shocked and appalled when Leslie Jones, star of the recent blockbuster Ghostbusters, started retweeting some of the racist and misogynistic abuse she has been receiving in recent days. But just as there were articles and tweets going out standing in solidarity with Jones and expressing outrage at the abuse, there were those who quickly wrote it off.

Some said the tweets were just mean pranks by kids, others said they were “to be expected” for the internet, even more criticized Jones for supposedly “encouraging” trolls by not ignoring them.

But many other women of color – especially black women – on the internet face the same abuse that Jones is now facing, and we will tell you that this isn’t a harmless prank, this isn’t about hurt feelings or even the sting of a racist comment. This is a deliberate campaign of abuse perpetrated on us to keep us off of the internet, and it needs to be taken seriously.

I remember the first time I noticed coordinated attacks against me. One day, a few years ago, I started suddenly receiving a large amount of hate-filled tweets from people who appeared to be neo-Nazis. Dozens of tweets from people with swastikas in their profile pictures were comparing me to gorillas, calling me a welfare queen, showing pictures of hanged black men and women, calling me every racial slur out there and some that may have just been invented that day for those very tweets.

Yes, I had received racist tweets in the past – at least a few each day, but this was different. This was a sea of hate doing its best to engulf me. Finally, one of my followers sent me a link that explained what was happening– somebody had created a thread about me on a neo-Nazi site. I had some tweets about race that had been picked up by national press, and this neo-Nazi group had decided that this was too much legitimacy for a black woman to have, so they fired up their troops with screenshots of my tweets and information about where to find me on social media. Their goal was to harass me off of the internet because my voice was considered a threat.

    @rikyrah: Love Luvvie’s writeup.
    From Luvvie:

And then Iowa representative Steve King had an interview on MSNBC where he said: “I’d ask you to go back through history and figure out, where have these contributions been made by these other categories of people that you’re talking about? Where did any other sub-group of people contribute more to civilization?”

One question though. How is it that a sitting Republican Representative went on live television and said that American “sub groups” haven’t contributed as much to society as White people and there is absolutely no reaction from Republican leadership? I’m talking about absolute silence from Republicans in power, who would have called him out and forced him to retract or clarify his statement, if they weren’t all racist White Supremacists just like him.

    It’s shocking.

I don’t think Rupert would have stopped them if they tried but he also wouldn’t have thrown his full support behind it. These allegations give them the perfect opportunity to get rid of them, even giving dad/grandpa a reason he can support. Plus, I think Rupert has pretty much checked out of the business side – he spending his time hitting the party/event circuit with Jerry.

Theseus’ paradox, is a thought experiment that raises the question of whether an object that has had all of its components replaced remains fundamentally the same object.

A ship, that has had all it’s components replaced, is still a ship, but it is most definitely NOT the same ship, in the same way that 2 separate yet identical ships are not the same ship. Just another example of extremely intelligent people overthinking themselves to an absurd conclusion.
