What was really amazing is that there was virtually nothing said on jobs and the economy (other then “I’m gonna create them), nothing on climate change at all, nothing on education (other than I’m gonna make it better), nothing on Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid or health care generally (other than I’m gonna make it better and repeal Obamacare), nothing on alternative energy sources, nothing even on tax cuts and not even a mention of the U.S. military. These are all fairly important areas of federal governmental policy
and presidential campaigns usually concern themselves with them in fairly detailed ways. But to Trump’s party, they barely even rate a mention and certainly no real policy proposals.

There are pockets of misery (New Mexico and rural Arizona are perennially shocking to me in their poverty). But the mood at least as I, mr. fancypants tourist, could sense it, was pretty good.
Trump’s terribly dark and foreboding reckoning of our country is deeply strange. Well, really, it’s just a load of total propaganda garbage. But I wonder how it could resonate with more than maybe 1/3 of the country? 40% tops. I just don’t get how it works.

I’m not sure where I heard it, but the downside to Kaine is his seat would have to be filled by a special election in Nov of 2017.
Off-off year elections aren’t great. We have to win a net 4 seats to capture the senate. If we lose Virginia in a off year election, then the turtle gets to fuck with appointments again.
It’s a big risk. So Vilsack is probably the safest choice btwn him and Kaine.
jl
@Anne Laurie: I’ve been watching me some Kaine on the youtube. I didn’t see anything near as bad what his detractors say about him.
