Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

T R E 4 5 O N

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

A Senator Walker would also be an insult to reason, rationality, and decency.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires republicans to act in good faith.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

Nothing worth doing is easy.

I called my sons and told them to put on CSPAN because this is what conventions are suppose to be about. The platform and fighting for rights, not platforms of hate.

That image of Clinton is actually powerful — it reinforces her positive image in many ways. The quiet fighter message is really a powerful way of reminding us that she isn’t a talker but a fighter. I feel like a lot of the speakers haven’t been directly reinforcing that but rather trying to undo decades of impressions sold to us about her, and it’s not an easy task (and only Michelle Obama has really done it effectively so far for me).

LOL. I was in the Omni in Atlanta 1988 when he said “And in conclusion….” and the room erupted in applause.

(Not long afterwards, he was on the Tonight Show. Johnny Carson observed “That wasn’t exactly your finest hour.” Bill responded, without missing a beat, “Heck, it wasn’t even my finest two hours.” For all his peccadillos in the years since, I’ve always loved him for that.)

Folks, if someone had done that image of the flag, the sword and the armor around candidate Trump, everyone here would rightly deride it as the cheesiest kind of campaign kitsch. We’re trying to elect a president to deal with real-world issues, not a heroine out of legend who will slay dragons and vanquish evil sorcerers. I want to see Clinton elected as much as anyone on this thread, but this kind of gimcrack imagery cheapens the contest and raises silly expectations among the weak-minded.

Obviously, the quality and power of Bill’s testament to Hillary seems to have been lost on the current commenters. Sad

This to me, was the deepest public (yet private) attestation of love that the big dawg could have ever given his wife and partner of many years. It was an amazing tribute and the power of it just blew me away. If I were Hillary, I would still be just crying with joy and humility of what it means to be respected and loved that way… He saw her soul and shared its essence with us so that we could better understand what she brings to us… and how important it is and how he knows — he knows what it takes her to give it… I know he has been so — incredibly obtuse at times. But this night, he showed how much not only 1) how much he loved her — way beyond selflessness but 2) he shared her most private self with us to let us see the woman he loves and deeply respects.
