Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

This chaos was totally avoidable.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

New McCarthy, same old McCarthyism.

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

Bark louder, little dog.

Republicans: “Abortion is murder but you can take a bus to get one.” Easy peasy.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Dear Washington Post, you are the darkness now.

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

Giving up is unforgivable.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Donald Trump found guilty as fuck – May 30, 2024!

He really is that stupid.

It’s not that I don’t like toddlers, Ms. Bendery… it’s just that I prefer not to waste my time trying to discuss serious issues with them. Neither of us will enjoy it, and it only makes you cranky.

Trump is a unique threat to our democracy who attacks and kicks out the press covering him.

Clinton doesn't hold press conferences.

“Screw the White House Correspondents’ Dinner”

is not quite what Hillary actually said. If anything, the exact verbatim quote makes me admire her all the more.

It’s funny. Trump has the ‘we hate politicians’ cohort and he’s really just a giant caricature of a politician – say whatever the crowd wants and doesn’t give a shit about actually governing. Clinton is pretty much the opposite – the only thing she wants to do is govern, but she’s judged on her ability to campaign.

and the media just won’t fucking let the e-mail thing die (and THEY KNOW that there’s nothing there) and they wonder why Hillary doesn’t open up to them and trust them after nearly 30 years of the NYT vendetta against her and her family. It’s like they’re upset that they only got to hang an illicit bj on old Bill and feel cheated. It’s not as if they couldn’t question NAFTA, Foreign policy missteps like Bosnia (if someone wanted to, at least) and I believe Mogadishu and Rwanda also happened on their watch and yet no one wants to talk about Africa or foreign policy or domestic policy… its fucking scandal mongering all the way down and playing the victim as to why in the fuck she decides to take all of that shit a wee bit personally. I know that she’s not perfect but I do believe that she’s capable of learning, unlike our fourth estate.

Trump at a rally tonight, denying that he kicked a baby out of a rally earlier this week:

“I don’t throw babies out, believe me,” he said. “I love my babies. I love my children. I love babies. I don’t throw babies out, believe me.”

My favorite bit was his maundering about Russia – we should be friends with them, they’re okay, we should team up with them and go after the Evil Terrorists and ISIS; got applause, so apparently the crowd was okay with Trump and Vlad being BFFs.

@? Martin: reminds me of Australians – in the classroom at least anecdotally the ruder and more sarcastic I am to my students, the better my course reviews and feedback look. It’s crazy. Same thing is true with our head of school – she (for many reasons) really dislikes a few of the men in our dept, comes down on them like a tonne of bricks whenever they step ever so slightly out of line, complains about them in public and private to all and sundry and THEY LOVE HER TO PIECES.

I think the United States and Russia could accomplish alot, if they wanted to. The US and Russia were allies longer than they were enemies, but 1917 changed everything. Now Russian leaders get their support from being anti-US, whereas US leaders (or want to be leaders) get their kicks from being Pro-Putin.

Right-wingers are very envious of Putin. They wish one of their leaders could do what Putin does, with regards to jailing opposition, criminalizing homosexuality, and establish virtual one party rule.

One thing that became crystal clear to me after 9/11/01 is that our right-wingers are basically fascists, but are too heavily constrained by our democratic traditions to seize power like Putin has.

Was just reading an anti-Trump yet foolish and pathetic op-ed by the leader of the Wisconsin State Assembly:

A few weeks ago, I wrote an editorial for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel explaining why I was so proud to be a Republican. As we watch the news today about the visit of the GOP Presidential nominee to Wisconsin, I have to ask myself, “am I proud of the GOP nominee lately?” The answer is so obvious it hurts. No. Actually, it’s even worse. I’m embarrassed that he’s leading our ticket.

When I saw Donald Trump say kind words about Paul Nehlen’s longshot bid against my friend and Congressman Paul Ryan, I have to say I was incredibly disappointed. Frankly, I was heartbroken because it revealed a lack of judgement from our nominee that I just cannot look away from or forgive. He might be able to repair the damage, but it can’t be ignored.

These morons were perfectly willing to countenance and even make excuses for Trump’s racist, sexist, xenophobic demagoguery from literally the day he announced his candidacy to the present. But Trump’s failure to suck up to Paul Ryan is “heartbreaking.”

What a pack of craven jackasses. They must be rooted out at every level. The only worthwhile thing Trump will have accomplished in his 70-plus years of self-congratulatory histrionics is to show us exactly which assholes are the enemies of decency, common sense and good governance.

On a side note, I went on an adventure in public transportation yesterday; I went to the Getty Villa in Malibu. I took the train/subway/trolly to Santa Monica and the one of the nicest public buses I’ve ever been on from Santa Monica to Malibu. The Villa specializes in Greco-Roman art and is a beautiful destination in and of itself. I’ll have an album up in a few.

The wife and a friend of ours have been intending to go for a couple of years, but the timing has never worked out. So I decided to go myself. They had a great exhibit of Roman murals.

And the media wonders why they are considered to be worthless, cowardly, tools of the system. I would love to see their reaction to the twenty year video compilation of Hillary questions.
    My guess as to their response;
    1. “Hillary never answered the question.”
    2. Furiously write down questions from star “journalists” to be used at earliest opportunity.

This also confirms my belief in why many people who would be great candidates, scrupulously avoid running for public office. The voters are dumb enough, but when the hyenas in the press prove to be dumber and meaner, it appears to be a job that is not worth having.

I was going to say the same thing. Hillary discussed a number of policy issues yesterday and some of the reporters asked her questions about them. But she got the usual e-mail/don’t like you questions again. Most of the coverage on my twitter feed was on the subject of the e-mails and how it rescued Trump from his bad week.

It’s not as if they couldn’t question NAFTA, Foreign policy missteps like Bosnia (if someone wanted to, at least) and I believe Mogadishu and Rwanda

Rawanda happened on Bill’s watch and IIRC was a motivation to get involved in Bosnia to prevent a similar event from happening. Bush 41 sent the troops into Mogadishu but the only thing people remember is ‘blackhawk down’ which did happen on Bill’s watch.

Its funny, because like John Cole, I am a conservative-turned liberal. And in my case, it was the Clintons that moved me toward the left.
It was the Gingrich lynch mob that turned me off, and I had to admire the stoic dignity of the Clintons enduring what was an embarrassing shitshow of pettiness.

I like the Clintons, both of them. I mean, not grudgingly or reluctantly, but I really admire them and will be proud to crawl over broken glass to vote for her.
