Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

Let me file that under fuck it.

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

“What are Republicans afraid of?” Everything.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

🎶 Those boots were made for mockin’ 🎵

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

Roe is not about choice. It is about freedom.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

One of our two political parties is a cult whose leader admires Vladimir Putin.

Late Night Open Thread: The Bush Family Once Again Demonstrates Its Principle

History Will Look Unkindly Upon George P. Bush https://t.co/6BqOq6Bg4g pic.twitter.com/fO5wnguJQ5

— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) August 8, 2016

Because, let’s be honest, they have but one: Whatever keeps the Bush clan in the game.

Patrick Svitek reports for the Texas Tribune:

Land Commissioner George P. Bush, who has not endorsed Donald Trump, is now asking Texas Republicans to support the party’s presidential nominee.

Addressing state GOP activists Saturday, Bush said it was time to put aside any lingering animosity from the primaries — where Trump defeated Bush’s dad, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, among others — and get behind Trump.

“From Team Bush, it’s a bitter pill to swallow, but you know what? You get back up and you help the man that won, and you make sure that we stop Hillary Clinton,” Bush said, according to video of the remarks provided by an audience member.

Bush was speaking in his capacity as the Texas GOP’s victory chairman, who is responsible for overseeing the party’s statewide campaign in November. Bush had been criticized for taking the role without backing the party’s presidential nominee…

Since the end of the primaries, many members of the Bush family and its network have declined to offer any support for Trump. They include Jeb Bush, former President George W. Bush and former President George H.W. Bush.

The old bulls have run their last races. George P. is the rising star; he’s no doubt sad that Trump pantsed his dad so brutally, but business — after all — is business.

Remember that brief happy moment when we allowed ourselves to believe that ‘Low Energy’ JEB!’s public embarrassment at the hands of a manic carnival barker meant we might never hear from the Bush Crime Syndicate again?

ETA:

I’m already cringing thinking about the 2024 presidential primary debates, when Donald Trump Jr makes George P Bush roll over, bark, & beg

I remember when either HW or GWB were running and he was a little kid who would come out on stage to say “Viva Bush!” and Grandma Babs made a face?

Times are changing. They probably see George P. as the great brownish hope when the GOP finally bows to the demographic realities coming in the years ahead.

What is really irritating is that 3 years from now Cruz will be portraying himself as the heroic conservative who stood up to trumpism before it was cool.
Meanwhile, everybody else will be trying to claim that their tepid support of the nominee was based on “faulty intelligence”

because we’d rather throw our support behind our OWN sociopath because he belongs to our party than ever consider voting for democrat… just as the founders would have wanted.

thank you, you may be the generation that finally trashes your family legacy of public service in service of a party of racists and intolerance of all kinds, like gender, race and creed. Congrats, you’re the perfect example of what it means to be devoid of American ideals.

@lgerard: I don’t know what will happen with the Bushes, I’m sure they won’t give up and maybe they’ll find people to give money to another generation– George P seems a bit green to be thinking about the presidency. But Cruz is gonna run into a lot of people who want it just as much as he does, and who can also claim to have have stood up to Trump– Sasse comes to mind, I can’t remember if Cotton has come out as Never Trump, but he wants it, too, and Paul Ryan, and Nikki Haley,… Cruz may have peaked.

They really do have a problem here. Their voting base clearly wants Trump, not Bush or Kasich or Cruz. How do they hold onto these voters when the party tries it’s post-election pivot? This seems like an even worse version of the Tea Party.

GP Bush had to basically do this. He’s in office in Texas, after all. None of the other Bushes are current office holders. P doesn’t want a primary challenger and wants to preserve his option to run for a higher office. The delusion that the Bush family name can be redeemed persists.

I’ll repost this from the last thread since it seems to be dead.

My adventure today consisted of the following:

    Campo De Cahuenga,
Hollywood Blvd and Vine St. to Capitol Records(had to see the stars for John, Paul, George, and Ringo),
Hospital I was born in(I was BillinHollywoodCA long before I was BillinGlendaleCA, I also found out today there is a UCLA connection),
UCLA’s Vermont Ave. Campus(UCLA was at the current site of LACC, before moving to Westwood),
Koreatown(mainly pictures of buildings, mostly churches but also Getty House(the Mayor of LA’s official residence)),
LA County Museum of Art(I didn’t go in)(there’s a portion of the Berlin wall across the street and the levitating mass art),
    The Tar Pits,
The Ross store on 3rd street(the reason we don’t currently have a subway to Westwood, or to the sea),
The old Pan Pacific Auditorium site.

You sound like you are trying to make this into a negative. For conservatives this is a positive. They don’t want government. They don’t want civil rights. They don’t want religious freedom. They don’t want women to vote. They don’t want democrats to breathe because if we do, they might lose. They especially don’t want democrats who might actually get things done to breathe, because then they have a greater chance to lose. No, they don’t want government, at least not one you can not buy and that everyone else pays taxes to for them to steal and which caters to their every asinine whim. Give them that and they will love them some government.

Was cleaning today and had MSNBC on in the background (I generally completely avoid cable news, but I was curious as to what the prevailing idiocy was this week) and was quite amused to see Republican strategists Mike Murphy (Jeb!) and Stuart Stevens (rMoney) basically saying that the problem wasn’t only with republican pols not excoriating Trump but also a problem with the republican base. In not so many words, they admitted that the base is full of idiots, made idiots by the republican echo chamber. Video, if you can stomach it.

I has to ask, is our children learning? Maybe just tiny bit. Although give them 4 more years and they’ll forget.

The defection article brings up what I thought was the GOP’s most logical path. Following Trump would ruin them, so best to jump to the Clinton Express while it’s still early enough to get tickets. Problem is, GOP makes her out to be the frickin’ *devil*, so it’s hard now to do the sensible thing (abandon this cycle while helping to embarrass Trump enough to where he never comes back). Take what you can get. Of course, few will do it, but it is reassuring to see that there are a few who will (every little bit will make a Trump loss that much bigger)

What amuses me is that George P. is boarding the S.S. Trump at the point where it’s already hit the iceberg and everyone with any sense is headed to the lifeboats. It’s like his sense of timing is inverted.

I really believe the Bush syndicate’s luck has finally run out. George P. may have been able to win a statewide race for Land Commissioner, whatever the hell that is, but nobody’s gonna step out of his way to let him be Senator or Governor.

George Prescott Garnica Bush has ticked off one of the necessary preliminary boxes for a Presidential run; he’s been a serving soldier in a war zone, having learned the lesson of his uncle the deserting coward. Being elected to Land Commissioner is an obvious stepping-stone to the Governorship of Bushland aka Texas and that’s the springboard that will put him into a race for the Presidency in another decade or so. Embarrassingly though Texas is trending blue and by the time he makes his run it might be too late, unless he pivots and becomes a Democrat.

No-one will LET him be Texas Governor though in the same way no-one LETS a Kennedy become a Massachusetts Senator. It’s just the party decides they are obviously the best candidate for the post by sheer coincidence. It’s the American way.

@piratedan: The first generation of the Bush family to trash the family legacy was at least 3 generations ago: Senator Prescott Bush, who plotted to violently overthrow FDR. HW, W and JEB also did not cover themselves in glory, and George P. is doing this now, so it’s easily arguable that they have no family legacy of public service.
