Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Let me file that under fuck it.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Republican speaker of the house Mike Johnson is the bland and smiling face of evil.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

The republican ‘Pastor’ of the House is an odious authoritarian little creep.

Come on, man.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

The willow is too close to the house.

If you voted for Trump, you don’t get to speak about ethics, morals, or rule of law.

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

The words do not have to be perfect.

We will not go back.

If you tweet it in all caps, that makes it true!

Baby steps, because the Republican Party is full of angry babies.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. keep building.

Come on, media. you have one job. start doing it.

“Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.”

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

Dumb motherfuckers cannot understand a consequence that most 4 year olds have fully sorted out.

Horse Cock Carl Checks In

Carl Paladino is Trump’s New York co-chair. During his run for governor against Andrew Cuomo (who crushed him), Carl’s habit of sending emails containing bestiality and crude racism [NSFW/NSFL Link] earned him the nickname that headlines this post. Today, Carl went on the radio and shat himself in the following manner:

“We’ve got an un-indicted felon as his opponent and you’re talking about Khan, about him making a remark about this man,” Paladino, a former New York gubernatorial candidate, told interviewer Connell McShane on Imus in the Morning. “All right, I don’t care if he’s a Gold Star parent. He certainly doesn’t deserve that title, OK, if he’s as anti-American as he’s illustrated in his speeches and in his discussion. I mean, if he’s a member of the Muslim Brotherhood or supporting, you know, the ISIS-type of attitude against America, there’s no reason for Donald Trump to have to honor this man.”

And then he proceeded to roll around in it:

Fox Business host Connell McShane was hosting Imus in the Morning and asked Paladino about his previous comments that there was “no doubt” that Obama was a Muslim. “Now I assume you don’t believe that. It’s not true…” he began.

“Wait, how do you know that’s not true?” interrupted the campaign’s New York co-chairman. “That’s not fair, Connell. You’ve formed a conclusion about a man because he’s told you that, he’s said, ‘No, I’m not a Muslim.’ Oh, that’s great.”
[…] “If it acts like a duck, if it walks like a duck, and if it talks like a duck, it’s a duck!” declared Paladino.

It takes a special kind of surrogate to fuck up this badly, but Carl is very special.

What exactly is a state campaign co-chair? Is it ceremonial? Can they be fired?

I fail to see the fuck up. He’s accurately presenting Trump’s core message. This is who they are and who their voters want them to be.

If a disgusting racist and degenerate like Paladino were appointed state co-chair to any other major party nominee’s campaign, it would be an enormous scandal. But because Trump is such vile piece of shit himself, Palandino’s penchant for porn and racism didn’t even warrant a mention in the Buzzfeed article.

He’s every bit the “disgusting racist and degenerate” in person as he is via media. Again, like Trump, Carl can’t help himself.. He is a PoS, no doubt about it.

I am surprised that Mr. Horse Cock Carl was not given the VP slot. His talents are wasted as campaign co-chair for the Not One chance in a million state of New York. He would have made der Donald seem subtle and intelligent by comparison.

BTW, Trump is an ignorant and pathetic loser.

Paladino is one of the few Trump surrogates who had that genuine Trump attitude of “I’m absolutely certain there nothing wrong with the outrageous thing I said.” Most of the campaign reps I’ve seen on TV have that cult member vibe of “I will loudly insist that whatever The Leader has said is true, even if it makes no sense or contradicts what he said five minutes ago.”

It wouldn’t be anything coming out of their own mouths that is creating problems now, is it? Thanks, Obama.

Paladino isn’t very good at duck-typing. What actions declare Obama a muslim? How does a muslim walk? How does a muslim talk? Muslims are supposed to avoid alcohol, right? That’s haram. Yet, 10 seconds of a google search for “Obama beer” return multiple pictures of him drinking a beer.

There, in 10 seconds I have found a way in which Obama does not act like a Muslim. One would suppose if Paladino was able to find his way out of his own ass that he could spend maybe even a couple minutes to find other examples of ways in which Obama is not a Muslim.

Exactly. There could be no better co-chair for Trump than Paladino. They’re sympatico compadres.

Driving home this afternoon, I heard a clip of Trump speaking somewhere today. He was berating the press for their reaction to his statement that Obama and Hillary were the founders of ISIS. First he mocked them for not understanding his remark was not sarcastic. Then, in the very next sentence, he said, “Well, it wasn’t that sarcastic.”

This guy just cannot stop himself. I’ve known an awful lot of horrible people, but never have I witnessed such a self-destructive human being.

    Here’s the quote:

“When I said that Obama — and of course I’m being sarcastic. And they know that. Because after I said that, I said he’s the MVP,” Trump said.

“So I said, the founder of ISIS. Obviously I’m being sarcastic,” he said. Then, perplexingly, he immediately added, “Then, then — but not that sarcastic, to be honest with you. “

The Trump campaign strategy leaked a bit back and it wasn’t completely crazy. The idea was to go after traditional non-voters that they could reach, with the message being that if you feel voting is pointless because the parties are fucked up, vote for me. There are enough non-voters and people fed up with the system that in theory, it’s the kind of campaign that could work if you could actually put the right message out there from the right messenger with a sufficiently weak opponent (and admittedly, a lot of these voters are if nothing else tired of hearing about the Clintons). But non-voting latinos are a whole other population that they can’t reach.

Now, I don’t know if there was ever a piece of paper that showed even a theoretical chance of this working, but with only 57% of eligible voters turning out in 2012, but it would only have needed less than a 10% turnout of 2012 non-voters all going for Trump to win assuming Hillary got every Obama voter. That assumes that every Romney voter voted for Trump, that every Romney voter was still alive to vote for Trump or that Trump would win over 18-22 year olds at a comparable rate, that latinos wouldn’t be so incensed by the whole shitshow to turn out in higher number for Clinton, that these voters were uniformly distributed across the country etc. But in their fevered mind, I think they saw a path, and I can see evidence of the executing on one single element of that path. GOTV likely wouldn’t work on people that it didn’t work on in 2012, and the blue-collar-economically-struggling-white-guy-that-is-pissed-about-messicans-and-ISIS-beheading-his-children-and-negros-assualting-his-wife-with-Skittles vote is indeed depressed and appears to be reachable, however it’s much tinier than they seem to realize.

But Trump is stacked with people who believe deeply in this strategy. It was Paladinos strategy when he ran before. As pissed off white guys that routinely circle jerk with other pissed off white guys, I’m sure the universe of pissed off white guys seems immeasurably large to them.

I think the Big Lie strategy still works, but Trump is doing it wrong. One of the points behind the Big Lie is that you have to keep saying it again and again for it to really stick. If you quickly back down or stop talking about it, especially when there’s pushback, people will either forget or accept that it’s been debunked. Only by repeating it often and in the face of attempts to debunk it can you really convince people. You can’t try to do the Big Lie and the Gish Gallop simultaneously.

The only way Hillary can win PA is if she cheats, he needs sheriffs and the police to keep a careful watch in “certain sections” of the state. Like Philly. Trump in Altoona PA.

    @? Martin:

    Yes it is. Actually.

The defining factor among the People-Who-Don’t-Vote demographic is they don’t vote. If they haven’t voted in the past 5 elections they almost certainly won’t vote in this election unless special and persistent GOTV time, money, and effort goes into getting them to vote but we know His Highness, Donald the First, isn’t spending a dime on GOTV.

Thus The Trumpitude is going after the wrong demographic in the wrong way.

Obama walks like a SECRET duck. It’s subtle, but if you look hard enough, and squint a little, you can see it.

More evidence: “Disco Duck” was on his summer playlist. Not the one we saw — his SECRET summer playlist.

I guess…or maybe the Big Lie has to in some way be in touch with reality? Maybe things are going too well for most folks that they can’t be motivated by a Big Lie?

Ah well, too much to ponder on a Friday night. Time to grab a book!

just as I figured, a quick check of Carl’s Wikipedia bio shows he never served in the military. Say, don’t conservatives have some kind of special animus against those who spit on veterans? Wonder what they will say about a guy who spits on the parents of a man who died serving his country?

Also… he has a teenaged daughter who was conceived in an adulterous affair. Classy guy.

@Roger Moore: Yes, it is just like cutting taxes for the rich. If the economy does not improve it just means you have not cut taxes enough.

These guys are just not capable of admitting they are wrong. That would show weakness, so they just double down.

BTW, Trump is an ignorant and pathetic loser.

I heard the full interview. McShane challenged Paladino, politely, at every turn, but the claim that the President is a Muslim was too much. McShane said “this is crazy” and ended the interview. McShane may work for Fox Business News, but, on Imus, he has repeatedly shown that he is not a conservative hack.
