Good evening. Have to catch up on the threads. I was fine with hearing Huma Abedin is separating from Mr. Weiner. She deserves better, and privacy.
And this has nothing to do with Hillary Clinton. Someone should let the NY Times in on that. They’re reminding me I am not happy subscribing to “journalism” this craptastic.

Completely unrelated to anything mentioned above, this song had been haunting me for a few days. It does that once in awhile.

Greetings from Summerland Key, FL. Wedding week for my baby girl.
Not that hot, only about 87 at the moment but it is about 1500% humidity as expected. Found our first lizard & it was set loose in the house by the kids. Tons of coconuts but since we didn’t get here till after dark a better survey will have to wait

@Schlemazel: Congratulations to the bride to be!

My dad loves that song.
The cafe I’m in is playing The Boy With The Thorn in His Side. ??

@Major Major Major Major: Now my extended weekend has become Smiths heavy.
Major Major Major Major
@Omnes Omnibus: sounds like you’re having my kind of weekend.

@Major Major Major Major: Did you go to a family corn roast based on your nephew getting his braces off too? My dad who has every movie channel available had me watch a movie called Pride which is a fact based story of how a number of gay activists in 1984-5 raised money to support the British coal miners’ strike. The movie is brilliant.

@Schlemazel:
Congratulations on the wedding. Hope it all goes smoothly.

@Major Major Major Major: I was at a winery down in Enumclaw earlier and the tasting room was playing non stop grunge hits. Screaming Trees, Nirvana, all your faves. I actually like all the stuff they played, just not expecting it.

@Schlemazel: Best wishes to everyone.

@Omnes Omnibus: Inspired way to celebrate no more braces!

@Omnes Omnibus: No, but I did get some writing in and made some progress learning a new programming language! Very clever little thing. And I listened to The Smiths.
@Mike J: That sounds fun.
@seaboogie: right?
Omnes Omnibus
@seaboogie: There were gummi bears too.
Suzanne
@Schlemazel: Congrats to the bride-to-be, and to you! Hope it isn’t too nutty.

Which language?

@Omnes Omnibus: Also genius. I began my smooching career a couple of days after mine were removed.

Had the good fortune to see Pabarotti many tomes in San Fransisco mid-70’svaotably in the outdoor bandshell. Thank you Adam.

Rained hard all the way down here – and if you have not seen Florida hard rain you have not seen hard rain. May raim tomorrow too but we’ll see. I am up way past my bedtime but I’ll update as I can
thanks for all the good wishes

@Major Major Major Major: Then our weekends were rather different. Talking and drinking with one’s brother in front of an outdoor fire isn’t a common thing. It should be more more common than it is.

Just survived an inundation of relatives to celebrate my stepmom’s 80th birthday with a big splashy party.
Now I’m listening to this. (Hamiltoniacs, please contain yourselves).

@Steeplejack (tablet): Go.
@Omnes Omnibus: Agreed.

As I watch Trump’s ridiculous attempts to get more than 5% of the African-American vote, I just realized this started with his KFC tweet. I didn’t see a connection, but I’m starting to think that was the pre-Conway campaign structure (aka Manafort pleading with Trump not to tweet something stupid) starting a big minority outreach initiative.

Dunno why my iPad seems dead set against making links.
I wrote that I just survived an inundation of relatives celebrating my stepmom’s 80th birthday at a big, splashy party Saturday, and that I was currently listening to Leslie Odom, Jr. sing “Look For The Silver Lining,” but it wouldn’t make the link properly. You can YouTube it, though. A lovely, jazzy version. Hamiltoniacs, please contain yourselves!
(If someone could delete my previous, now redundant comment, that would be appreciated.)

@Major Major Major Major:
Cool. Job-related?
I’ve read a bit about it, no hands-on experience.

@Steeplejack (tablet): No, just for fun. It’s nice, you should try it.

Just caught up on the latest adventures of Walter. Great job, animal rescue team! Respect to all who take it upon themselves to care for those in need.

@Schlemazel: I’ve seen some hard rains in Florida, not the Keys but Tampa on many, many trips. It rains real hard. Costa Rica in the rainy season was a whole new experience for me. We didn’t have the lightening and thunder of Florida but the volume of rain was beyond anything I’d seen. My hand was a vague shape at arm’s length.

Everyone should have some slight fear for the groom in this case. Schlemazel’s “baby girl” was a brute of a defenseman in her time.

@Omnes Omnibus:
well, THAT is stunningly beautiful. The Leonard, I mean.
& in re the Aretha/Nessun Dorma clip – the truly amazing thing is that she is doing it in Pavarotti’s key, not her own – he canceled about 5 minutes before air, didn’t have time to get a different score.

Rick Perry is going to be on Dancing With The Stars. I think they should try and get Joe Hidden next season. He would have a ball.

@Schlemazel: Congratulations to the lucky groom for getting both a wonderful wife and the good fortune to have relatives who are active on balloon-Juice!
In Germany (Berlin, now) and yesterday was reading the progressive history of the Nazi’s/Hitler located on the old wall/foundations of the (now removed) secret police headquarters. What both shocked and depressed me was some of the anti-immigrant and hatred of the “other” written there was straight out of the tRump book! The issue is that 45% or more amerikans can get behind someone that says those things and no less than 27% of amerikans are whole heart supporters of these Nazi ideas! Just sick that so many of these amerikans are not just bigots but out and out stupid racists that would impose Nazi ideas just to hurt or even killed so they can feel ‘superior’ in life.

I’m holding my jaw and dreading going back to work tomorrow. The new crown seems to be fine, but my mouth is paying me back for the massive injections. And I’ve also decided to interview for the second job. Might as well. Part of me wonders why now. i was planning to go, for pete’s sake.

As an opera, Turandot always leaves me cold – it’s best passages perhaps inspire awe, but not affection. The Puccini opera I’m always happy to see is Fanciulla del West – I’ve never seen a performance I found cloying or perfunctory. Here’s the fabulous Antoinetta Stella in the poker scene.

@Elizabelle:
I heard a clip of Trump calling in to a radio show trying to make it a national security scandal. He said that Huma Abaden has access to ‘highly classified information’, so of course that means that Anthony Weiner did as well, and who knows who all he told?
He made it sound like such a certainty that someone with classified information would of course tell their spouse all about it – I want a reporter to ask Trump if he told Melania everything he learned in his security briefing.
Ninedragonspot
I couldn’t figure out why my comment was in moderation. Is “Antoinetta Stella” a dirty word around here? It took me 45 minutes before I realized I used the forbidden word describing a game of chance played with cards. Oh well, no Fanciulla del West tonight.

@reality-based (the original, not the troll):
re the Aretha/Nessun Dorma clip, yes, it was a little bit low for her, she hit every note dead on, but some of the lower parts were a little softer, which I do to hit a note that really just past my range low. I can sing-along bass, after all I was a tuba player, but that is a sign of being a couple keys lower that one might wish.
Doesn’t that woman have the pipes, though!! Wow, who knew she could just do that, and in Italian at first, too. Adam, where did you find that??
I’m not an opera buff, but that was great. Some are so good they can tear up anything…
Denali
Thank you, Adam.
Nessun Dorma – great way to start the morning!

@reality-based (the original, not the troll): Ah! That explains a lot. As I was listening I was thinking she must have had a bit of a cold/chest infection as she sounded raspy in places.
Her sheer musicality shines through. I would love to hear her sing it in an arrangement done especially for her.

@Sloane Ranger:
She was able to sing above an entire orchestra/choir doing the loud parts. Totally gifted artist, able to do whatever she choses.
Saw her last at a White House / Kennedy Center affair, fur coat, jewelry flashing but tasteful. As she worked up to it, she let the fur fly away…
She also plays the piano v well.

I sing Nessun Dorma whenever I survive a night shift without killing anyone. I’ve never heard the Aretha version, thanks for posting it.
