The Chinese government has determined that their panda protection efforts have been paying off. As a result they’ve changed the status of the panda from endangered to vulnerable. You could say they’ve gone from Panda-Con 1 to Panda-Con 3. In honor of this good news here’s a bunch of panda videos to get you through the night!

I’m to bed. You all know what to do!
Miss Bianca
My people call pandas “cow bears”.

@Miss Bianca:
I’m still happy that Miss Lefty decided to come home unharmed. Any indication of where she was on her little walkabout? I’m still suspicious that she matured a little faster than you and the vet thought she would — Werebear says such things are not as predictable as a calendar would lead you to believe.

Panda-Con and Taco-Con are like Comicon as far as I’m concerned.

Not for you or any man!

@Mnemosyne: May have to call the kitty abortionplex!

Spaying takes care of any existing mistakes — the alley cat I adopted at USC ended up having a slightly more complicated spay because she was already pregnant again by the time I was able to trap her and take her in. Luckily, it was only about $20 more.

@Miss Bianca: Lefty came back! Yayyy!
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Ruh-roh.
@Mnemosyne: Yay, safe and legal!

@Mnemosyne: I think we had to pay $20 extra to have our Conni fixed because she was in heat(not pregs).
You ever been to Deukmejian Wilderness Park in the Crescenta Valley? I went yesterday(and Bolton Hall in Tujunga), pretty nice place.
ETA: Both of our dogs were born in the Year of the Dog.
Miss Bianca
@Mnemosyne: I haven’t been to work since Friday, so I don’t have the whole story. I sincerely hope she is *not* knocked up – she’s so tiny still!

@Miss Bianca:
All the more reason to have the poor little thing spayed immediately, then.
If she’s under 5 months or 5 pounds (IIRC), you’re probably safe. But she should visit the vet anyways, because running loose in the wild world is how little kitties pick up nasty parasites, some of which won’t make themselves evident until she’s generously shared them with Pancho. (And, worst case, with the cats of anyone in your office who cuddles her & doesn’t wash their hands carefully afterwards.)

My god, panda videos are so much better than reading threads about/involving Glenn Greenwald. I now know what to do the next time I’m tempted to waste time doing the latter.

So now we can shoot them if they pose an immediate threat?

How can I hug a panda? I’m literally jealous. :)

Pandas are my older son’s current favorite animal (past ones are elephants and hippos). Even within the charismatic animals, they sure are cute! Happy to hear that they are now “just” vulnerable.
