Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

You know it’s bad when the Project 2025 people have to create training videos on “How To Be Normal”.

At some point, the ability to learn is a factor of character, not IQ.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

“Loving your country does not mean lying about its history.”

I really should read my own blog.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

I am pretty sure these ‘journalists’ were not always such a bootlicking sycophants.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

Live so that if you miss a day of work people aren’t hoping you’re dead.

“In this country American means white. everybody else has to hyphenate.”

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Disagreements are healthy; personal attacks are not.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

The National Guard is not Batman.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

This Lurch looking marine who asked about the VA just validated Hillary’s response, then said he didn’t really think she answered it.

Moderator: Your choices are vanilla or ebola.

Independent- I dunno, I’m still undecided. Vanilla didn’t give me the answer I wanted.

Seriously, stop interviewing independents.

Tonight Secretary Clinton mentioned she always read classified material on the classified system.

That was a revelation to even news junkie me. There were two systems? Apparently this is so. Here’s a confirming tweet from John Harwood.

That’s why the 3 – count ’em 3 – tweets with the missing header got sent on the wrong system. No one explains this in the news. America thinks Hillary put national security at risk by only using some kind of Play Station Server in her pantry in Chappaqua.

When asked why isn’t this 2 system reality reported all the time, Mr. Harwood replied:

unfortunately some people covering this Issue act as if they don’t want to know it

My John forces me to watch the original NCIS and, aside from the military jingoism, they often come from a rather liberal point of view. Terrorism is a law enforcement issue, taking care of our wounded ( whether physically or emotionally), against racism and discrimination, anti-torture and many other good stances. I think it’s because of Mark Harmon, who I believe is a quiet sort of Democrat.

@MazeDancer: Yes, there are times when I want to tear my hair out over this. This was for personal email. She worked very hard to keep classified material out, but on a handful of instances (18), in tens of thousands of emails, material at the lowest level of classification, but nothing Secret or Top Secret, was sent to her by careless correspondents, without the identifying header.

That is what all this is about.

So the idea that by using this server Hillary was “exposing state secrets” is simply ridiculous. State secrets were discussed on the State Department network.

This is so consistently obscured by journalists that it is inconceivable that most of them aren’t obscuring it on purpose.

To be undecided in this election is to pause for a moment and then ask how the chicken is cooked. The flight attendant comes down the aisle with her food cart and, eventually, parks it beside my seat. “Can I interest you in the chicken?” she asks. “Or would you prefer the platter of shit with bits of broken glass in it?”

His longest-lasting assignment with The Times began in 1993, when he left Washington for New York to become the paper’s editorial page editor, a position he held for eight years. The aggressive, colloquial style of his editorials, especially those critical of President Clinton and his administration, drew widespread notice and a share of criticism, not least because it differed from the measured tone for which Times editorials had been known.[5][6]
