Press conference concluded. Wow, she hammered the ever-lovin’ fuck outta Trump! Will try to scare up a video to post.

No mean-girl tweets from Trump Tower so far (10:03 AM ET). Maybe Kellyanne and Ivanka each have hold of a tiny thumb…

NOW THE BELTWAY MEDIA WILL LOVE HILLARY LIKE A LONG-LOST FRIEND AND HOLD HANDS AND GO FOR MALT SHAKES AFTERWARDS THEY’LL GO… go… gooooo…. sigh. You know damn well the Beltway pundits will keep hammering Hillary for being “unlikable” and “corrupt” and a “liar” and 100 other criticisms about her because they’ve got their f-cking Narrative and nothing’s going to change it, and we’re going to get Trump winning because that f-cking bias is going to lull too many voters into thinking “Trump can lead” or some such. I just sent a friend a link to the Gary Johnson post from LGM yesterday, the one talking about his involvement in the the private prison industry. He’s been in arguments with friends who just can’t trust either one of the major candidates and thinks the prison angle might help.

I told him that in another state, I’d say to let them be morons, but this is NC. The polls are just too close here.

From the WaPo’s article today about how Trump doesn’t even have a basic understanding of how the presidency and the Pentagon/generals interact:

Buried in all of this are competing instincts: Trump’s disinterest in being wrong and his great interest in being the boss. He threatens to oust top leaders of the military for little other reason than they were in positions of authority under Obama. While his prepared comments from Tuesday suggested that he would seek the counsel of service members who’d committed decades to protecting America’s interests, he tossed that to the side in favor of not being embarrassed by Matt Lauer, insisting that he still did have his own secret plan. Probably one that involves oil.

ETA: again, just more evidence that the main argument against Trump is that he’s a fucking moron. Apparently that argument doesn’t count for much with older whites, but hey there you go…

ETA (just one more) – Obama says as much, just more politely:

(from CNN.com) Obama declared last month that Trump was unqualified to succeed him as commander in chief, and reiterated his view Thursday.
“Every time he speaks that opinion is confirmed,” Obama said.
“I think the most important thing for the public and the press is to just listen to what he says and follow-up and ask questions about what appear to be either contradictory or uninformed or outright wacky ideas.”

I’ll never trust a single thing he says or writes or tweets again. Neither he nor Norah O’Donnell should have ostensibly non-partisan jobs in the MSM. Neither is at all adept at hiding their biases.

Yesterday, the CEO of Starbucks was on the CBS morning show opining about how Washington was broken but that there was a need for all citizens to come together outside of D.C. and work to address the problems facing this country. He kept saying that the political climate was irretrievably broken there. and that it was caused by both parties.

O’Donnell finally pressured him to name which Presidential candidate he was supporting and he replied Hillary Clinton. Then she plaintively asked him how Republican and libertarian supporters would feel about his support of HRC .

Even Charlie Rose got irritated with her. I’ve long been irritated with her, even before that obnoxious interview of Valerie Jarrett on 60 Minutes a few months back.

As I said last night we have to hope that it’s like 2008 and 2012 where the punditocracy kept telling us that us that Obama had lost the debates, but then when the reputable polls were done not the online insta crap polling, which can be juiced by a campaign, they all said Obama won.* The media really wants and needs a horse race, but as you said, for many of us women, the constant interrupting and the double standard rings too many bells for us to look past it.
    * he first debate in 2012, is the exception, but even that did not change the trajectory of the race like the media said it would.

What it shows is that, for political advantage,Trump is willing to disclose discord between the president and his advisers, which is information that potentially helps others, including Russia or ISIS in devising strategy against the U.S. Boys and girls, does that make America stronger or weaker? And, of course, it was not accurate so it just shows Trump is a big fat liar willing to make things up.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter that Matt Lauer is an overpaid infomercial host, because anyone with half a brain would have seen that Trump is not qualified to have anyone’s life in his hands. The fact that the press can get anywhere at all trying to normalize him for purposes of a creating a ratings-driving horserace is scary. I guess they know their audience.

The reason we need 2 strong responsible parties in US politics is because the press is simply a mass corporate enterprise where ratings are the coin of the realm. The Trump has hacked into that existing reality and has ridden it further than anyone could have possibly expected, but zoom out and there’s no reason to be surprised. This is a cadre of people and corporations whose livelihoods are completely dependent on the horserace. No one need hold their breath waiting to see if this will change and the press will somehow grow a conscience and stop throwing their entire body onto the Trump side of the scale. They won’t. They can’t. This is like waiting for a tree to grow a nose.

Right now, Hillary is an existential threat for the media beast. The current wisdom (which I think is right) is that it’s truly and numerically impossible for The Trump to win, but very possible for him to get blown out early, essentially cancelling the election and a whole bunch of the billion dollars that it pumps into the corporate media ecosphere every few years. The past month was scary for this beast, as there didn’t even appear to be a theoretical batch of states Trump could cobble together, and they had to contemplate the idea that John King might be standing in front of a big interactive map for 6 hours being asked about the formula for a Trump victory, and simply not being able to create one no matter however furiously he tapped on every rural and exurban county in Michigan and Pennsylvania. So last night you have Matt Lauer opening with 30 minutes of questioning on “emails” but not one second for a follow up on Trump’s Iraq opposition lies or apparent “plan” to plunder its corpse. And this morning on NPR you have Mara Laison reporting on this half-hour questioning of emails as proof of the clouds of murky mistrustful mist surrounding her campaign, the balancing mass against which The Trump’s laughable gradeschool-level lies, evasions, and Nazi rhetoric is weighed and found to be…hmmm, oh wow, It looks like a close one, Bob! Back to you!

Well, as someone who lived under two Johnson terms as governor (Governor No), I’ve seen little proof of that. While he was governor, part of my job was to track his policies and statements for a research outfit I worked for at the time. I thought he was always an ill-informed idiot. Yet, people liked him because he took a “bold” stand against government. Hell, he even vetoed a bill his wife championed. Of course, to be honest, I thought that about him long before he became a successful, millionaire building contractor and Republican governor. When he was in college at UNM, he worked for my neighbor’s construction company sometimes, as did I. My impression of him was not favorable. My neighbor, on more than one occasion, called Johnson the dumbest employee he ever had.

As for Johnson’s successful company, Big J, I can tell you he was fortunate to have a wife who was smart, skilled, and very business savvy. She really ran the company. Without her, Big J would have been just another small construction company. This was the same wife he later divorced after taking up with a younger woman and who died from cancer not too long after the divorce. Gary is, and always has been, a self-centered jerk.

One would think that when even the 11-year-old in my house gets it, that anyone who would say something that incredibly dumb shouldn’t even be in charge of cutting up their own food, perhaps the media could take note one in a while.

“I have the best words”…right up there with “I love the poorly educated”…

In that event, Reince Priebus winds up standing in the dock at The Hague begging for mercy…

Of course he shot first. If he didn’t, at that range he would be dead. (And besides, the script makes it obvious that he has to shoot.)

I’ve never actually gotten why there’s any question about that.

LAtest outrage – according to weekly standard (large grain of salt) Congressional democrats were not told that the payments to Iran would be in cash. I guess I’m just getting old and senile but what the H____LL difference does it make if the payments were in cash, check. money or or coconuts?

And according to the VSP’s Hillary gave the presser today to make up for her bad performance last night.

    (sigh)

@bupalos: Perhaps the saddest part is the sheer lack of creativity and vision. If just one enterprising media outlet would remind itself that perhaps the most famous actual horserace of all time was Secretariat winning the Belmont by a quarter of a mile, they’d realize there’s another $$$ making narrative RIGHT THERE for them. The stories about a historically unqualified and buffoonish candidate present themselves every goddamned time Drumpf opens his mouth. Aren’t media executives supposed to be the leading storytelling experts? There’s more than one story, and there’s plenty of audience looking for a different movie right now.

@D58826: The payment was in cash, IIRC, because international sanctions have kept Iran out of the international banking system for the most part. Your ATM card won’t work there. Can you imagine the uproar if the payment was in gold?

Since it’s against the law for financial institutions t have dealings with Iran, what form did they think the payments would be in ? Bitcoins, Gold Bullion ?

@Corner Stone: And just the notion that there would be an unbiased poll on Putin’s popularity is also a little mind boggling too. But I guess Deadbeat Donald just thinks that polls are rigged in the US and other democracies and not in authoritarian states.

Actually, it would not surprise me if Putin’s popularity were that high. What little I have heard — so take this with major salt — is that they love him, because he’s making America Russia great again. Standing up to the Americans, who are looking down their/our noses at them, etc.

Of course, he’s in significantly better shape, and also considerably smarter, than the ferret-headed shitgibbon. But no doubt Corrupt Deadbeat Donnie would make his paymaster Vlad into a pitiful, helpless giant, because shitgibbon has the best words/mind/nukes.

It still amazes me how many stupid people there are in this country.

    @burnspbesq:

Unfortunately, most of the people supporting Johnson have no particular clue or interest in what he actually believes and just think (quite wrongly) he can’t possibly be worse than the Short-Fingered Vulgarian or Hitlery. Particularly former BernieBros who say they’re voting for him – because there is no sane world where someone who claims to actually believe in the things Bernie does and share his goals for policy would switch to Gary f’ing Johnson before they switch to Hillary. So the types of people supporting him won’t care, or likely even find out, that he doesn’t know what Aleppo is.

    @Kay:

It’s a red, rural county w/maybe 10k Democrats. I bet it means they have the whole state covered now.

Maybe Clinton Team can just outwork the douchebags. That sometimes turns out okay. Not always, or often enough really, but sometimes.

    Kay,

we aren’t talking about where Hillary is opening 10 offices to Ferret head’s 6…..

    He’s not opening ANY.

He’s leaving it ALL to the RNC.

We shall see what gets out the vote.

    We shall see.
