Hillary is dying, this website is dying. Apparently we have a bad certificate, and I have no way to get in touch with Alain as he is not answering his phone, email, or fb., so if any of you rocket surgeons know how to fix this or who I have to throw money at to get the certificate fixed, please let me know.
It never fucking stops.
JPL
OH NO Yes that was as shout for help.
Peale
Talk to Heather Bresch. If she can get WVU to give her that MBA without the coursework, handling a mere certificate should be no problem.
Immanentize
It’s Ok John. You’ll sleep when you’re dead!
Unabogie
Contact your hosting company. They probably issued the certificate and can help you renew.
Corner Stone
Here goes wrong way Cole again not understanding what the problem is. And where is muckymux with his backwards non-understanding of technology and mac vs Windows post to make it all better. Or Doug telling us that BoBo heard around an Applebee’s salad bar how to get the cert replaced.
All you people suck and have no understanding of politics, technology or the markets.
FlyingToaster
About:config
search for “ocsp”
set the lines with “stapling” to false.
It’s a temporary workaround, but I’m back in Firefox so we’re good.
Well, for an hour or so until this box crashes. Again. My own damn fault for using Migration Assistant back in January, I suspect.
FlyingToaster
@Unabogie: It doesn’t seem to be expired. It seems to be “I can’t get an answer from the certificate server”.
Juju
If you need a classroom issued certificate of excellence I can give you that, if not I’ve got nothing. I also have some gold stars I could stick on your homework.
Pogonip
It’s working all right for me (Safari).
FlyingToaster
@Corner Stone: Oh for pete’s sake.
This has all the earmarks of a backhoe incident — or, if the certificate was served from hereabouts, a tree falling over and uprooting a fiber trunk.
khead
Some clown tried to break into our house last night. We know because we never use the basement door – yet someone tried to open it. Plus, the dumbass left their bike in our yard (now in the possession of the local police) upon departure.
?BillinGlendaleCA
On Chrome, it says the cert expires in December.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Corner Stone: Perfect Derp-d-Derp.

@FlyingToaster: Stupid question: where to find about:config?
Firefox recently messed up Roboform, my password utility. I just spent 10 minutes trying to log into my bank, with no success. I wrote a check. Ick.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Mary G:
The horror, the horror.

@Corner Stone: So either you are Shomi or you’ve perfected his/her style wonderfully. Bravo!

not seeing cert issues ran a test from here

khead
I just assumed this was an open thread where I could yell at some clouds too.
Mary G
@?BillinGlendaleCA: It’s SO much more work ?
FlyingToaster
@Mary G: in the URL bar
It will pop up and demand that you be careful. Goddamn nanny state….
Major Major Major Major
@Corner Stone: Did you forget to ‘log in’ as shomi?
Cole, from what I can see, it’s not your cert, it’s a browser issue. Works fine for me on Chrome; people are reporting issues on Firefox.

Hilary is dying from OCSP stapling?
CaseyL
Someone a couple threads ago said they were able to get here via FireFox, but most of us can’t. Fortunately, we can use other browsers.
OT:/Football Seattle is having a lot more trouble with Miami than it should be having. Plus Wilson has a badly stomped/twisted ankle and nowhere near as mobile as he needs to be. Ugh.
Taylor
Chrome works fine.
If you open View | Developer | Javascript Console, you can see diagnostics for things going wrong in the background. What I see that is worrying is that while the page loads securely over http, it is including a video plugin insecurely over http. That means that if you are watching this in a hotel or internet cafe, someone could replace that plugin with their own plugin (i.e. their code running in your browser) without your being aware of it. That should be easy to fix. FWIW I’ve seen bank Web sites make this kind of rookie mistake.
Mary G
@FlyingToaster: Thanks, I fixed it and now feel smart.
Pogonip
@Taylor: When will society take the OCSP-stapling epidemic seriously?
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Taylor: I thought it was pneumonia or a stroke; but OCSP stapling sounds painful.
FlyingToaster
@Mary G: Trust me, you’re smarter than your browser.
Most of my professional life has been spent battling artificial stupidity. Like the GPS routes in my 2007 Sienna — “Are you fucking kidding me? If I take that route, it’ll be 45 minutes just to cross Watertown. Fuck that shit!” and other songs from the same hymnal.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@?BillinGlendaleCA: Just remember, when OCSP stapling is involved; the safe word is “Green Balloons”.
FlyingToaster
@?BillinGlendaleCA: I don’t see that working on OCSP-induced walking pneumonia…
JPL
@Ryan P: Thank you.. We need a site to discuss the coming rapture.
WaterGirl
@Corner Stone: Was that comment just for me?
Taylor
@Taylor: Come to think of it, I’ve seen frigging Paypal make that mistake.

@Major Major Major Major:
My understanding, from a few minutes of poking around the many, many past times this has happened with Firefox, is that the other browsers quietly handle the issue while Firefox goes full-tilt Chicken Little. The error page that comes up offers to let you report the site to the malicious site review group.
Patricia Kayden
@khead: That sounds scary. Glad no one was hurt.
Rob
I’m not having any problems viewing this in Safari. I can’t, however, view it in Firefox.
Aleta
It’s not a tumor.
(It’s not the blog, for me with Saf and Chro.)

My NAS server wase shut down during an electrical storm yesterday, and while everything seemed all right when I switched it back on, the server eventually went down hard. One drive was okay, but the other (with 2 terabytes of data on it) was not accessible at all.
Swapping the two disks revealed that it was the connector inside the NAS case which had failed, not the drive itself, so all of my data is okay. What I have is a small problem, not a large one.
What I’m saying is: chill. Clinton having pneumonia will not put Trump in the White House, and your website isn’t going down for the count either.
shomi
Haven’t you ever heard of letsencrypt Cole? Don’t need to spend money on a certificate. Lol. Just need to set up your website properly and wordpress is not hard.
You still have not fixed the stupid links which go off to the sides. So when you click anywhere on the page it follows the damned links. That has been that way for years through multiple site changes so clearly nobody who has the slightest clue has ever worked on this website.

Silk on a Kindle Fire is serving up the mobile site without challenge.

@Corner Stone:
LOL. You nailed it. I had to check the nym to make sure it wasn’t the real deal.
