I thought she did great last night.

Rally in Raleigh! Such scattering!

We need to go deeper.
Punchy
Wow, just look at over-prepared she appears….another Clinton epic failure.
Dork
@Punchy: and wearing white after Labor Day? Colossal misjudgement of the body politic and an egregious display of disregard for fashion normalcy. This is going to destroy her support amongst people who wear clothes.
Shell
Clintons at a rally, but wheres Trump appearing today? Stamina?

Aww, I love how she is talking about her mother.
“Kindness”…honestly, how can people talk about about how HRC doesn’t seem “human” to them? And Trump does? WTF is up with people in this country?
Jeffro
She’s talking about the coarseness of our political dialogue and the need to reassert our fundamental connections (as citizens/Americans)
Sign me up! That’s the kind of work I could do all day every day. The country needs it.
Punchy
@Corner Stone: I’d love to see her Press Secretary start every single presser of her first month in office by looking directly at Chuck Turd and announcing, “She’s only adequately prepared today, Charles”.
Then punch him in the nuts and curb stomp that goatee.

@Miss Bianca: IMHO, kindness is an underrated virtue. I used to think it was sort of routine and conventional, rather like politeness. But I’ve come to see how hard it is to be kind. In the context of family, I swear it’s sometimes downright heroic. As frequently happens, the depth of what Clinton is saying is not obvious.
singfoom
@Corner Stone: Absofuckinglutely. Dumbest thing I read last night. As if one could be overprepared for the Presidency.

hovercraft
“Mark Cuban, who is a real billionaire by the way.”
Jeffro
@JPL: She sounds like a leader with a vision, with values, with a plan.
It dawned on me that a lot of pundits – heck, even PBO – are saying that Trump “didn’t prepare”. Even bigger picture, it’s not that he didn’t prepare, it’s that there’s no ‘there’ there. There was no need to have him rehearse his policy positions because he doesn’t really have anything other than his own ego and need for attention.
So it’s no wonder that he “didn’t prepare” – how do you prepare when you don’t really exist as much of anything, much less anything of value?
pamelabrown53
@Punchy: #4
Of all the inane commentary those who said she was “over prepared” deserve the most ridicule. I can’t believe that there are far too many folks who believe we should hand over our country to an unprepared, carnival barker.

Wapiti
@Corner Stone: Oooh, nice. If “Overprepared” is the top of the chart, what’s the bottom? “Still More Prepared than Trump”?

Hate to be a skunk at the picnic even as I enjoy watching ‘old little hands’ get his ass beaten in but. This guy has more lives than Wiley E. Coyote. Coming out of the convention and his comments on the judge and the Kahn family, among other things, he was as much as 12 points down. Now it looks like the race is near to a dead heat. I understand all of the caveats about the polls and post convention bounces but he did wipe out most of the difference. He is still the same buffoon that he was in August but stands a much better chance of winning in November than any sane person would like to see.
My point – last nights performance may not cost him anything in the polls. In fact he may even gain since he was playing fear factor and the ‘I can fix it’ card. Even if he takes a 1 or 2 point hit the race is still to close and he has come back from the political dead to often. Best to keep the bubbly on ice for a few more weeks .
hovercraft
Suck it Chucky, she just went there again, she like to be prepared.
Jeffro
@Miss Bianca:
So, kind of a Jefferson-Burr thing, then?
#Hamiljoke
But yeah, that’s basically it. Would love to see Hillz call him out on it: “He’s offering you nothing but his magical strongman powers…when all the actual evidence, every bit of his history tells us he’s conning us, that he’ll just stick us with the bill as usual”

well, the “overprepare” thing may just be the ticket.. I mean goddamn, dude you’re running to be the elected leader of the United States and you couldn’t even be arsed to have an understanding of the basics? Sure, I can understand how the “the burn it all down” crowd would love that shit (right up to the point where their shit was burned down too) because it doesn’t take a whole lot of intellectual curiosity to throw a fucking torch.
But anyone else who has a set of firing synapses would prefer someone who has a fucking clue and reasons for doing what they’re doing versus, electing the grown up Eric Cartman to run things for them.
Villago Delenda Est
Did they fly down a C5A filled with oxygen bottles to over prep her for this appearance?
hovercraft
@D58826:
Even the pundits who said she won made the point that it will only garner her 1 to 2 points in the end. The most important thing about last night is that we’re all excited about it. Democrats wee at first complacent, then we became depressed over the polls tightening up so much. Her performance last night has democrats really excited, head over to almost any left site today and you can see we are energized by it. The GOS is filled with Hillary love today, not the usual split between pro and anti Hillary diaries. We all needed a nice positive shot to help us GOTV and volunteer.

@D58826: Keep your expectations in line – Republicans will not be swayed by Clinton’s performance or Trump’s flailing, so Trump will continue to have 45% of the vote eventually locked up.
Last night was a signal to Democrats who aren’t enthused or are on the fence about protest voting this year. Trump is awful, Clinton is a fighter, she’s got plans and policies and you’re going to like them. What Trump has you won’t like. Come on off the fence and join the winning team, etc. etc. Good for 1-2 points, maybe a few more if it sinks in with younger voters and older Boomer/GenX leftists who are thinking about sitting this one out exactly what kind of a once-in-a-lifetime threat Trump is to our way of life in this country. (I actually expect it to sink in better with the younger voters than the older leftists to be honest).
Hal
@hovercraft: Completely anecdotal, but I noticed an uptick in Facebook posts about how Clinton and Trump are basically different sides of the same coin. Not the usual if only we had Bernie he would be clobbering Trump. It just makes me think that even some Bernie or busters are acknowledge how well Clinton did, even if they still want to shit on her success.

@D58826: true… you’re absolutely right but we do have a better understanding of what the current set of goal-posts are mounted at… sure the fourth estate doesn’t have any issues with helping along a sexist, racist, fascist know nothing, but they draw the line at being used as free advertising. Now that we know that, and the guy in the power suit STILL doesn’t get it as he was shilling for his properties even during the debate, they will more or less call a liar a liar (unless they’re already in the pocket of the other team… see Faux, Drudge, Breitbart, CNBC). Which means that Hillary just has to be Hillary in public, speak to the people of the country and the rest of the pissed off media will essentially let her do so with out any additional knee-capping (although this may not apply to the NY Times because… she ran over their dog, with a forklift).

@Face: So true! I can hardly wait for her rally in Compton.

@peach flavored shampoo:
Naw – you’re misreading it.
First of all, in this screwy country, only somewhere between half and 2/3rds of the people who can vote actually vote. This is mostly because the other half to 1/3rd assume that things will continue on as they were and think their vote really doesn’t matter. It isn’t that they want Trump, they just assume that Trump would be no worse than anyone else in that position. This makes them kind of stupid and very ignorant, but it doesn’t make them people who want anarchy.
Second of all that 45% of people who vote who will vote Republican no matter what – a chunk of them don’t want Trump either. They just don’t want a Democrat to win it and their only alternative is Trump. Why don’t they want a Democrat? They have their reasons – none of them good and many of them revolving around them being “single issue voters” (abortion, guns, taxes). They also assume that Trump would be no worse than, say, W in that position. Again ignorant and stupid and to a large degree hateful, but not “burn it down” idiots.
I’d peg the “burn it down” crowd to the core of Trump support – which seemed to be somewhere around 30-40% of the Republican primary electorate during primary season. So taking into account people who don’t vote it’s more like every 5th person you see rather than every other person. More if you live in a red state, less in a blue state. Still not good, but not as bad as half the population.
the Conster, la Citoyenne
Birtherism is really a problem for Donald and he doesn’t see it – he’s proud of it. His poll numbers started ticking down after he got into it all again at the hotel, and I’m sure his handlers keep trying to explain how it’s not a good look for him (as if anything is, but still…), but, it’s his bread and butter and the thing that propelled him so he’s going to ride it like Slim Pickens. Obama’s approval rating is 55% – one of the biggest tells last night was referring to him as “your” president. It really just doesn’t sit well at all with anyone not a die hard Trumper. He’s just a nasty hateful white supremacist who can’t shine Obama’s shoes, and looks awful in any comparison. Obama is going to put his whole effort into Hillary’s campaign in October, and goad that fat orange fuck into blowing a gasket.

1. Obama released his short form birth certificate in 2008
2. there was a birth announcement in the local paper

@D58826: Yeah it’s a problem. Democrats and liberals are a weird bunch in that respect – if it seems like we’re winning too much suddenly support bleeds off because “protest votes” become things that you think you can safely do. Republicans and conservatives seem much more attuned to the bandwagon effect – while Trump looks like he’s winning they want to be Trump supporters.

Many also believe that electing Hillary Clinton is the actual “burn it down” option. Their concerns read almost like a search-and-replace of Democrats’ concerns about Trump: they’ve been told that she’s an unstable, vindictive totalitarian who will burn the Constitution. I have relatives who are convinced that Hillary will rescind the First Amendment and outlaw their church.
On the left, Jill Stein is saying similar things, that Clinton is a monster who will do everything we fear Trump doing.

@Hal:
Remember the “Bernie or Busters” at this point are mostly false flag. Real Bernie supporters understand Clinton is the best current option and a lot better than Trump, and that the best option by far for somebody supporting a big leftward shift in the US is to support Clinton now and push forward in future elections. Basically, Trump was so atrocious yesterday the false flaggers are falling back to echoing assorted smears of Clinton to try to discourage left-leaning voters.

I’m on the fence whether it’s better to ignore ol’ Dr. Stein or to have a few Clinton surrogates take a few whacks at her here and there. Probably the former.
It sure seems like there’s a lot overlap (today, at least?) between the “both sides equally bad” crowd and the Johnson supporters. Which makes sense: spewing “Trump and Clinton are equally bad” is just as dumb and lazy as “we need a 3rd party” or “Johnson has some great ideas”

That would make it harder for him, but it still gives him a couple of windows of opportunity. One happens if the polling underestimates his popularity in general, so Democrats feel safe voting third party when they shouldn’t. Another is because there’s a time delay in releasing the numbers; if he’s close to a peak on election day, people might not know it yet and be in a third party mood when they should be panicking and returning to the fold.
