Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

We can show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

The revolution will be supervised.

T R E 4 5 O N

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

Those who are easily outraged are easily manipulated.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Republicans got rid of McCarthy. Democrats chose not to save him.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

The “burn-it-down” people are good with that until they become part of the kindling.

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Someone should tell Republicans that violence is the last refuge of the incompetent, or possibly the first.

For the nighttime knitting crowd, Anna H. at Mochimochi Land has a free Tiny Trump and Tiny Hillary pattern.

If you make Trump with worsted weight instead of sock weight and add a little catnip, he would make a fine cat toy. Just sayin’.

Since The Arizona Republic began publication in 1890, we have never endorsed a Democrat over a Republican for president. Never. This reflects a deep philosophical appreciation for conservative ideals and Republican principles.

    This year is different.

The article is bad enough, but the comments are truly pathetic. She had an earpiece. Yeah, an invisible earpiece.

The amazing thing is that even if any of what those Bozos wrote is true (ahem), none of it made Trump act like a complete buffoon — he did that all on his own.

@Major Major Major Major: The source cited in that article is at https://baltimoregazette.com/clinton-received-debate-questions-week-debate/.

This site had an article up a week or three back about a white police officer killing a black mother in front of her toddler, which was a complete fabrication. I came across it because some of my black friends were sharing it. I went and looked for confirmation, and instead found that it had been confirmed false.

I can’t look at the article I linked above because apparently the webmasters there are too incompetent (or perhaps unwilling to spend the money on a CA, which would be incontrovertible evidence of who they are) to be able to properly configure a secure web server. I find the possibility that they’re unwilling because it would be very easy to find out who’s behind the site bolstered by the fact that they’re using the Domains by Proxy domain anonymising service, and maybe tried to roll their own and failed.

Lotta misinformation going around out there. Good idea to check the provenance of everything you see or hear over the next few months; after perusing the site last week I’m pretty sure the article about the black woman shot by police in front of her toddler was done specifically so it could later be pointed to as a hoax to delegitimate the folks that shared it.

ETA: here’s an actual Baltimore news source’s article on it: http://www.citypaper.com/blogs/the-news-hole/bcpnews-someone-revived-the-baltimore-gazette-to-spread-fake-bullshit-20160923-story.html

    @seaboogie:

has been in the trenches most of her life in service to the public

And even though she has the intelligence and drive and energy and toughness to have made millions, every year for all these years, in business or law or lobbying or medicine or whatever she wanted to do. Instead, she’s chosen public service most of her life. Unimaginable public attacks, but she still continues to channel her ambition into public service. She’s attacked on the left and right for having made money; but no mention of how much she could be making now if she didn’t run. Meanwhile DT campaigns primarily on his success at making money.

This election is crushingly unfair, but also such a clear cut illustration of the forces at work. I can’t say it well, but I think the election campaign itself is proving her strength as a leader.

They didn’t get very far, exactly the same as 8 years ago, so I’m doing another prep for a CT colonography next Monday, in another building on the other side of the freeway. The little they did get a look at had no polyps and a very minor bit of diverticulosis.
Why they don’t have the durned machine in the same building is beyond me, but the hospital apparently doesn’t own one. Damn, we were spoiled at Kaiser. Everything here seems to be parceled out to various clinics, very little in-house and their computers have only recently started talking to each other. This is Evergreen in the Seattle area, and I’m considering switching to Swedish or UW.

@Aleta: boy do you have it pegged right…

    she’s a woman… so if she’s assertive… she’s bossy
if she’s serious… well, she needs to smile more
    if she’s intelligent… suddenly she’s a know-it-all
she’s cited as being prepared… as if that’s a bad thing.

She’s held accountable for her husband’s transgressions
She’s held accountable for them being on the ass end of a real estate deal (Whitewater)
She’s held to a different standard on her e-mails than her predecessors
Her charitable works are under scrutiny for being accessible to the powerful, who are the same people that every charity lobbies
Her pay for speaking is under attack yet no one says a fucking thing when her opponent launders his public appearances through his foundation to avoid the taxes

and she has to deal with the lies and the smears and the insults every damn day and if I was a violent person, it would take a long time to find the bodies of Rushbo, Andrea and Chuckles who have been the ringleaders of enabling this cavalcade of innuendo to persist and succeed. Also too, the NYT would be a pile of charred wires and rubble deposited upon the vehicles of every senior editor and board member of the organization.

What is strange is that I voted for Obama, I am not entirely on board with all of her positions and ideas, but jaysus fucking Christ (on a Ritz or in a sidecar), at least she has ideas, wants to help people and believes that intelligent government programs and money can help make that happen.

There are times I really wish upon her enemies, the same amount of vitriol and passionate grudge holding that they’ve infected on her and see how well they handle themselves.

My condition isn’t Crohns, or did you mean yours is?
My condition is having had a hysterectomy so there are things missing that would have held other things in the correct positions for the doc. Instead it’s all just a collapsed heap of nonsense, which kind of describes me at times.

(A lot of the reg flavors at the site are red or orange, but there is a regular lemon-lime one that I’ve used, too.)

On the site, each type has a handy ingredient list one can print or tablet or send to show your dr’s office. I like the low or no sugar ones at the link, because then I can mix them with any juice I like, or just water. They are made in the US.
