Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Let me file that under fuck it.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

There are more Russians standing up to Putin than Republicans.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Hell hath no fury like a farmer bankrupted.

Humiliatingly small and eclipsed by the derision of millions.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

The willow is too close to the house.

Bark louder, little dog.

Apologies for my absence last week. Here goes!

Does anyone know if Sam Allardyce holds the record for shortest tenure as a coach for a national team?

Chelsea stopped the bleeding yesterday, but is it enough?

Manchester United seemed like they may have started to turn things around, but the Stoke game wasn’t exactly convincing.

I’m guessing that it’s not so much that all is forgiven between Juan Mata and José Mourinho as it is that Mourinho doesn’t have a lot of options.

Speaking of Mata, he is all class.

Share your thoughts on last week’s Champions League results.

‘Finally. Someone who thinks like me.
    October 1 at 5:37 PM

    excerpt:
She lit a cigarette. Her boyfriend, Kevin Lisovich, was next to her on the couch, drifting to sleep, a pillow over his head. On the ottoman was her cellphone, her notes on the speakers so far — “LOCK HER UP!!” she had written — and the anti-anxiety pills she kept in a silver vial on her key chain.

She was a 52-year-old woman who had worked 20 years for the railroad, had once been a Democrat and was now a Republican, and counted herself among the growing swath of people who occupied the fringes of American politics but were increasingly becoming part of the mainstream. Like millions of others, she believed that President Obama was a Muslim. And like so many she had gotten to know online through social media, she also believed that he was likely gay, that Michelle Obama could be a man, and that the Obama children were possibly kidnapped from a family now searching for them.

CLAUD ‘TEX’ MCIVER: LAWYER KILLS HIS WIFE, BLAMES ‘BLACK LIVES MATTER’ FEARS — HAD CHAUFFEUR DRIVE 4.5 MILES TO HOSPITAL
    SEPTEMBER 30, 2016

The tale that Claud “Tex” McIver, an Atlanta attorney, has told about how his wife was shot and killed at his hands is reminiscent of the movie The Bonfire of the Vanities. Like the below scene from the movie (warning: explicit language), McIver claimed that his driver took an unexpected turn in Piedmont Park, and with his proclaimed fear of Black Lives Matter protesters and car-jackings, McIver brought a gun with him on the ride.

According to AJC.com, Tex and his wife, Diane McIver, were being driven in their SUV when the tragic shooting and killing of Diane happened. Oddly, Tex sat in the back set of the vehicle whilst his wife sat in the front of the SUV, in the passenger’s seat.

That positioning put Diane in a position of danger, because the gun Tex positioned on his lap accidentally went off, according to him, when he fell asleep and the driver hit a bump in the road.

What’s being questioned by those who read Tex’s seemingly tall tale is why Diane was driven nearly five miles away to Emory University Hospital on Clifton Road, instead of a closer hospital. Mrs. McIver would die during surgery several hours after the shooting.

I think Jose Mourinho has discovered that the best position for Wayne Rooney in the Man United line-up is “left outside”. Wayne has become one the most dangerous players any team can have: one whose footballing powers are seriously declining, while his clout in the team has grown such that he is bigger than the manager. Big Sam admitted that he couldn’t tell Wayne what position to play for England.

Yep, certainly the best in the PL. Possibly best in Europe. And CCV just renewed his contract with spurs. Had a pretty good outing in the league cup against Gillingham. Clearly Poch thinks he’s part of the future.
