Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

You cannot shame the shameless.

This really is a full service blog.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

The words do not have to be perfect.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

We still have time to mess this up!

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Battle won, war still ongoing.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Technically true, but collectively nonsense

The prim and proper NY Times. I wonder whether they can be shamed into actually quoting what Trump said. It’s vulgar, but that’s kind of important because that is who he is.

The media hold back on stories that they believe cross certain lines. They give a presidential candidate a huge benefit of doubt – after all, millions of people chose him – and I think that’s reasonable to do.

But when stories like this come out, which are impossible to not report on and which undermine that benefit, that moves the line for what the media can go after. When a tax return drops, taxes are now fully on the table. This video puts a shit ton of things on the table – possibly even the rape suits. It’s impossible for the media to now say ‘there’s no reason to believe these accusations are true’. There are now proven reasons to believe that. These stories are now fair game in the election. Floodgates are going to open up even further now.

Dems are going to fucking pummel every GOP house candidate and every GOP senate candidate over this. It is now open season on everyone who hasn’t bee loudly in the never trump camp for the last year.

I am positive that according to the NY Times that this will indeed cast a shadow on Donald Trump’s campaign, leaving many to question whether these attacks on his character have any merit. Since the NY Times is also a family paper, we choose to edit the more offensive parts of the video and audio in an attempt to lessen the damage.. er, outrage, that this developing, unsubstantiated story might bring to light. The NY Times admits that finding this video in Hilary Clinton’s deleted e-mails is something of a surprise….

@hueyplong: She won’t run the ad. No need to. Now that the floodgates are open she’s going to run nothing but sweet grandma who wants to make the world safer and fairer ads. I think it’s no coincidence that this is the ad that dropped today:

The latest spot from Hillary Clinton features home-video footage of ordinary families, measuring the height of their kids as they grow taller over time.

“How do we measure greatness in America? The height of our skyscrapers? The size of our bank accounts? No. It’s measured by what we do for our children,” the Democratic nominee says in a minute-long ad that she narrates.

The soft spot appears aimed largely at suburban voters, many of whom harbor doubts about both Clinton and her Republican opponent Donald Trump and are still undecided.

And for the record, Trumps supporters will care after today. Lots won’t but he’s going to lose real support now. This is the kind of stuff you can’t look at your kids and neighbors in the eye if they learn you voted for him.

    @Cacti:
I share this one crazy thing in common with each of the thirty-seven Republican candidates: at some point the Donald will blow up his candidacy saying something moronic, and drop out.

Still can’t believe it never happened during the primaries, but I overestimated the Republican voter’s tolerance for/love of angry, uncontrolled belligerence.

Not in the mood to watch crap like that right now.
And, IMHO, this is about stuff that should be obvious by now, but now they have a golden ‘gotcha’ (though not sure Trump is as obsessed with blondes as Ailes is). And, ohh… this is so good, a word that The Paper of Record cannot print, nay, even refer to.

Most disgusting thing I heard was, press has worse, but a lot of Trump demolition material was held for the general election.
Corrupt corporate hacks. Covering for lies of GWB, run-up to Iraq war, now malfeasance on Trump vetting. They could have done it without having to deal with their self-imposed ‘balance’ BS during the GOP primary. But Trump meant $$$$.

Edit: and yeah, probably Kasich or Jeb would have been harder to beat, but the risk of a Trump presidency outweighs that for me as a citizen and Democrat.

I heard on the news a while back that the corrupt corporate hack who runs CBS said that Trump was bad for the country but great for CBS. Clearly other corrupt corporate hack media chiefs felt the same. Does anyone seriously think that the likes of Blitzer, or Mitchell, or Todd, or Muir, or any of those wretched corporate hack schmucks would even think of not going along with what was best for their corrupt corporate hack bosses? The very idea is laughable.

The miserable failed US corporate media experiment has completely discredited itself yet again.

David Brock said so months ago. When stuff was coming out towards the end of the primary, when Little Marco was dumping all that crap, Brock said that he was barely scratching the surface. Remember Brock was part of the Arkansas Project that cut it’s teeth trying to prevent Bill from first getting re-elected governor, and then elected president. He’s like the David Bossie of the left, the big difference is that Bossie already blew his wad over the last 30 years.

@? Martin: The Onion just now:

Trump: ‘I Know That Was Pretty Bad, But Let’s Just Say You’re Going To Want To Save Your Energy’

NEW YORK—Advising pundits, reporters, and the general public to rein in their indignation for the time being, Republican nominee Donald Trump admitted Friday that he knew his recently unearthed comments about groping women and attempting to engage them in extramarital affairs were pretty bad, but that everyone “should really save [their] energy” for what he was going to say next. “I’m fully aware that what I was recorded saying about using my celebrity status to sexually assault women is extremely vile and disturbing, but I want you to know that you’re really best saving your outrage and disgust for some thoughts I still haven’t verbalized yet, believe me,” said Trump, noting that if everyone worked themselves into a frenzy at his assertion that he couldn’t help but make aggressive advances on every woman he finds physically attractive or his use of the phrase “grab them by the pussy,” they simply wouldn’t have the stamina to denounce a series of forthcoming statements that the candidate assured would be even more reprehensible. “Look, I get it. What I said, frankly, should not be accepted in civil society, let alone by a major party candidate for president of the United States, but we’ve got another whole month until the election—I’m going to say a lot more unconscionably repulsive things. Trust me, you will be much more sick to your stomach with the stuff I’m going to say after this. It’s going to be so, so revolting.” At press time, Trump was standing at 44 percent in the national polls.
