… Mr. Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, an observant Jew who normally does not work on the Sabbath, was among those who gathered with him on Saturday, although the candidate’s oldest daughter, Ivanka, was not. Mr. Trump’s oldest son, Donald Jr., was there. Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey and Rudolph W. Giuliani also showed up, as did the Republican National Committee chairman, Reince Priebus.

Mr. Christie and Mr. Priebus told Mr. Trump that the situation with other Republicans was becoming dire. Other advisers assured Mr. Trump that attacking Mrs. Clinton over her husband’s behavior with women, and over reports that she had defended his behavior, would help rally Republicans again.

Ms. Trump and the rest of the Trump family made plans to travel with the candidate to the debate, in part to buoy his spirits.

But the real source of comfort to Mr. Trump seemed to be the small band of supporters waving Trump signs on the Fifth Avenue sidewalk outside the building. His fans clashed with people walking by, including a woman who told a female Trump supporter that she should go back to her “trailer.”

Mr. Trump could not resist the scene. Just before 5 p.m., he descended from what his aides grandly call “the residence” and strode through the marbled lobby, with his son and his campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, in tow.

He slipped through the glass front door, startling some of his star-struck supporters.

The crowd screamed and reached out to touch his suit jacket. He bathed in the rapturous admiration.

He pumped his right fist in the air and smiled. He looked rejuvenated.

He stayed for just five minutes, electrifying the scene.

But before he departed, one reporter screamed a question at him, asking whether he would remain in the race. “Hundred percent,” Mr. Trump replied…

    Who is the audience for Trump’s nonsense? Most of us were alive and old enough to remember all of the Clinton sex scandals from the 90s. This is old news and completely unpersuasive.

    By the way, is Trump’s argument, “I’m deplorable, but my opponent’s husband is just as deplorable”? The video with Billy Bush shows Trump boasting about sexual assaults, not just making lewd comments. We have no such record of President Clinton speaking about sexually assaulting women, to my knowledge.

    @Patricia Kayden: There is a segment among Republicans, and conservatives that vote Republican, and a subset among the professional Republicans (Bossie, Stone, Conway, Coulter, Klayman, etc) that have been waiting, year in and year out, for someone to stand next to Hillary Clinton in real time and lay out the whole indictment that they believe needs to be made against her. And that by doing so they will then rip the screen that the news media has been using to protect her for over 30 years and she will be driven from the public sphere once and for all, and, perhaps, right into an actual criminal indictment, conviction, and prison for her long list of crimes against the Republic. What is being telegraphed for tonight is the culmination of this delusional fever dream – a delusion that has made Bossie and Stone and Conway and Coulter and Klayman and many, many others rich beyond what they ever could have imagined if they’d, instead, led normal professional lives.

    These are similar to, but not necessarily the same folks that wanted to see someone do this in 2012 with Obama – stand on the debate stage and make it clear that he was a naif, a fool, an empty suit, the worst example of what affirmative action can create. It didn’t happen then.

    In a 2003 interview with The New York Times, Trump acknowledged that he had skipped 10 numbers when labeling the residential floors of Trump Tower. He said it was justified because the ceilings on the lower floors, which include commercial space and the tower’s grand atrium, were so tall.

    “It was all approved,” the now Republican presidential candidate then said. “‘I brought it before the various agencies and got them to agree that I could start the building at Floor 30, because it equated to approximately 300 feet above ground.'”

    That same story noted that condominium buyers in other Trump buildings were sometimes required to sign documents acknowledging that their units were on floors lower than the ones listed on elevator buttons. Source

Remember, he’s got an analyst agreement with NBC/MSNBC, so until they get to covering it, he doesn’t get the broad TV audience to see him lay out his analysis.
