    Wow, election day is Nov. 28th? That should make for some interesting Thanksgiving banter, though the timing sucks for folk who work retail being it’s the Monday after Black Friday.

    Washington (CNN)Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said that he doesn’t “want” or “care” about having House Speaker Paul Ryan’s support in an interview in which he repeatedly trashed the House speaker, virtually unprompted.

    As of August 1, 2016, there are 2.1 million Hispanic registered voters in Florida, according to designation on voter registration forms. Among Hispanic voters, more than one in five are newly registered voters who were added to the voter rolls since the 2012 presidential election. Between January 1, 2013 and August 1, 2016, 441,508 Hispanics registered to vote and remain in the statewide voter file. And according to state records they are trending more heavily Democrat in 2016 voter registration than ever before.

    So Assange isn’t aware of how he’s fucking himself in every orifice with this hacking shit. He always had a somewhat plausible excuse on Manning’s crime (which was, at its heart, Manning’s crime); but now, he’s a material conspirator in a targeted set of unauthorized cyber invasions.

    That’s a whole different pot of shit.

    Ecuador is going to find itself in an awkward spot, given the target of the incursions and the sort of policies the beneficiary of the incursions would have enacted.

    @Baud:

    I don’t know, this late in the campaign getting almost 7,000 new registrations seems pretty good. I wouldn’t count on many of those 6,920 potential votes actually being cast. With the wall-to-wall coverage of this campaign and the amount of media attention that has been given to all things Trump, anyone not registered by September probably doesn’t care much about the outcome. That is particularly likely for Democratic registrants, since so many always have something better to do on election day. (And, now, with so much early voting, absentee voting, and mail-in voting, you really have to be apathetic to not manage to get your ballot filled out and delivered.

    The number I would like to see is how many people refused to register even though all it took was a few minutes and a little bit of printing.

    Sign # 3,212,547, 568,644 that our elections is broken:

    US elections are made-for-TV events. The conventions, rallies, polls and pundits are all essentially spectator sports. The process is built for consumption rather than engagement. It’s big business. In 2012, Republican spending on ads in Florida alone was almost double the total spent by the six main British parties combined during the UK 2015 election.

    @Baud:

    I can never make heads or tails of it in Ohio. Maybe the ratio means something, 5 to 1 for D v R or something, but you would need much better analysis to come up with a real comparison, because voters also drop off every year- they move, die or “become inactive”. The reporting on it is cyclical in Ohio- between 2008 and 2012 they said Democrats “lost” 300k D voters (not sure what that means) and then Democrats said they registered 220k new voters btwn 2011 and 2012.

    Someone could do it I guess- count this in some reliable way that means something- but it’s more complicated than just comparing monthly totals of new voters.

    The only thing the Obama campaign used was early/absentee votes CAST- that’s a “banked” vote. Reliable. If the votes are cast in a D county where he needs a huge margin and they have a number they need in that county (as a total) that’s “10% there” or “25% there”.
