1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.
2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.
3 Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread: they have not called upon God.
5 There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath despised them.
6 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

I may just be very drunk.

I can’t remember who pointed to this in the comments, but thank you, and pipe up if you’d like a hat tip.

Is there supposed to be a picture? There’s a big blank space followed by a passage from the OT that’s usually quoted by fundies to disparage atheists. Franchement,I don’t feel devoted at all after a 9am insult.

Oh Christ, what have they done with our SP&T?

I was expecting DougJ’s Cockwork Orange post to be next.
What’s the big empty space? I checked in three different browsers and it’s blank in ffox, chrome and even edge.
Never mind. I just checked the source. it’s this.

Yep, there has to be something missing here.

@Mingobat f/k/a Karen in GA: Typical Sarah post.

How about something more uplifting that bronze age ire?

This is supposed to be satire, right?
I thought I had accidentally stumbled onto a Value Voters site.

I don’t get it either…
Is it supposed to be some sort of Bible verse?

Maybe SPT discovered that it’s good for hangovers.

@Major Major Major Major: Perhaps SP&T has an appreciation for the performance. It certainly kicks the shit out of Manhattan Transfer for the ol’ a cappella, even if the tune isn’t as finger snappy as Boy from New York City.

Okay, I watched the video. Can’t get behind the sentiment expressed, but it’s Aramaic so I can put it aside and just enjoy the music. Stunning.

How meta… Are we supposed to guess the YouTube video that was meant to be embedded?
My guess would be the lines recited by Samuel l Jackson Pulp Fiction.

That’s not how we recite the Kol Nidre at my temple.

I think it might have been Ozark, but could be misremembering. It was in a comment last night “Your moment of zen.” Was recorded by an orthodox choir during Pope Francis’ recent visit to Georgia and Azerbaijan.

@Sarah, Proud and Tall: Not at all. I said the other day thatI don’t get your stuff and you said”neither do I”!

That’s true. I’m allowed to be fickle. It’s one of the only benefits of extreme old age. That and being able to wee on people in public.

They are singing the “our father,” right? Not the same as the verses quoted below the video.
Also, complete aside but note that in orthodox churches women veil themselves during services.
“The man existing under God should not have a covering over his to show he is immediately subject to God; but the woman should wear a covering to show that besides God she is naturally subject to another.” -St. Thomas Aquinas
ETA: ah no they ARE singing Psalm 53. Sorry. They also sang Our Father….that made news because the Pope cried.

It’s a magnificent piece of ancient music and that’s all it needs to be. Thank you, Sarah.

that is just spine-thrillingly gorgeous music.

Kellyanne says Bill Clinton settling his lawsuit with Paula Jones is an implicit admission of guilt, Anderson Cooper asks in Trump’s settling multiple lawsuits is also an admission of guilt, did he racially discriminate against black people since he settled. That’s different.

@sigaba: I saw it over there as well. Every once in a while he has stuff that makes you think — and realize that all “Christian Conservatives” are not Pat Robertson/Jerry Fallwell types but then other times you think “Man, what century does he think this is.”

In the same vein.
Land of Shiva, a piece by ARR (who is a Muslin BTW) for the movie Ranjhaana, set in Benaras (also known as Kashi or Varanasi) captures the essence of an aarti complete with chanting in Sanskrit, temple bells and conches.

Georgian writing is funny looking. Only saying. So is Armenian. Only saying, too.
jenn
@hovercraft: I no longer remember details about the various attacks on Bill Clinton, and really don’t care to reacquaint myself with them, but isn’t she the one who had multiple versions of the same event, and when called out on it by someone, said there was money in it?
I have always thought that the imbalance of power in Bill’s affairs was inappropriate and therefore wrong, but also that, given the massive investigations of everything and everything to do with him by people with a vested interest in taking him down in whatever way they could, the fact was telling that the only thing they got him on was lying about a consensual affair.

Also too,
ARR’s Kun faya kun (Arabic prayer) in the movie Rockstar, its set in one of Delhi’s famous dargahs (tombs of Sufi saints)

@jenn:
I have no idea what the details were, but I do know Kellyanne was one of Ken Star’s little elves who did all the digging behind the scenes, and her husband was one of the lawyers behind Paula Jones.
O. Felix Culpa
@catclub: Yes, I didn’t see it right away, but eventually noticed that the blonde woman was conducting. Not what I would have expected for some reason (knowing absolutely nothing about the Georgian church), but cool.
Joel
@raven: considering that it was an amateur production in a third world country, it’s actually an impressive feat.

Thank you for this, beautiful and moving. The Psalms are a source of the calls for justice. This seems very relevant to us, “Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread…”. This is the powerful taking advantage of weak, a call for justice. I get that many that post and read here are not religious, but for some of us it is the source of our actions for justice (really listen to that Methodist we are all supporting).
Msb
Sarah, thanks, that was so beautiful. And I’ve always wanted to hear the language Jesus spoke. Thanks, other juicers, for the other music links.
