Any thoughts on Bob Bradley becoming the first American to manage a team in the English Premier League?

Certainly no love lost between him and Jürgen Klinsmann. I think he’s got a point.

Aaron Ramsey can’t catch a break.

Is Tite finally the coach the Brazil Men’s National Team Needs? It’s beginning to look that way.

A good thing Leo Messi ended his international retirement so quickly. Oops!

    I got asked this question at practice the other night by one of my players: what happens if you throw the ball to your own keeper but it goes into your own net (without being touched)? I’ve never seen the play happen but I think it’s a corner kick. Is this right?

    @Mark Field:
    Correct:

    A goal cannot be scored directly from a throw-in; if a player throws the ball directly into their own goal without any other player touching it, the result is a corner kick to the opposing side.

    @Mark Field:
    Per the Laws of The Game:

    A goal cannot be scored directly from a throw-in.

    And since the last player to touch it was from the defending side, I’d agree that it should be a corner.

    in his prematch press conference, Jürgen Klopp complained again about English football’s lack of a Christmas break. Whereas im Vaterland, alle Fußballspieler spend Christmas week putting up their feet and watching English football. And people wonder why England do poorly in summer tournaments.

    Well, since this open, there is a book on Kindle, “The Witch’s Trinity,” by Lisa Mailman, which several reviewers described as being akin to ” The Handmaid’s Tale,” so I thought I’d mention it. Enjoy!

    I just got stuck behind 2 motorcyclists doing the exact speed limit as the female half of the pair rolled down the street shouting “Look at me! Look at me! Look at MEEEEEE!” Doing the exact speed limit is very rude around here. I hope birds poop on both of them. Harrumph.

    My opinion of when Klinsmann replaced Bradley as that Sunil Gulati had wanted Klinsmann with the lust of a first crush for several years. I had talked to Gulati around 2005 and he loved Klinsmann at that time. So while Klinsmann probably tried to undermine Bradley, Gulatilikely abetted that pretty heavily

    United can be beaten, especially if Wayne “the manager’s not the boss of me” Rooney plays wherever he feels like playing.

    I see the other shoe is dropping in in the Trump scandal and the Hollywood’s rape culture is starting to come out. But wait, it’s not just for the girls – my mother is a big Clay Akin fan and Akin has been going on about how even the male talent is expected to take it and him saying no is what got his career in trouble.

    To be fair to Herr Klopp he was complaining about his team having to play two games in less than 48 hours and he’s correct, that’s absolute bullshit and it’s something the PL is going to have to address. The biggest concern is the tradition of a packed football scheduled over the xmas and New Year holidays the league has to get past.

    I was too lazy to get up early to watch either Spurs or Swansea but Bradley’s whining about Klinsman wanting his job is just that, whining. He has a chance to do well at Swansea, however, he’s a very good coach and if nothing else they will play with some passion and effort and taking Arsenal to the limit is evidence of that.

    Just how impressive is Eddie Howe?

    Edit – Sevilla have gone to the top of La Liga.

    Going on form and attacking threat that ‘if’ should be a ‘when”, though as it’s football, those chickens are to remain unnumbered and anonymous. Either way I’m very much looking forward to enjoying Mourinho’s existential struggle between his wanting to park the bus and the demands of the Man U supporters for attacking football. Should be a great Anfield night.

    I really don’t understand the English hostility to Bradley. My impression from paying attention over the years but not watching closely is that the US was on the upswing under Bradley, playing disciplined football above their talent level. I have never had that impression under Klinsmann, who doesn’t seem to have replaced the retiring stars of Bradley’s team.

    Part of that could be the quality of the pool has declined, but Klinsmann is supposed to be developing the young players into international quality regulars.

    Anyway, if my impressions are correct and Bradley did as good or better a job than the internationally renowned Klinsmann, in addition to doing well with Egypt and in France, how can he not be good enough to manage one of the worst teams in the Premiership? Who could they have picked who could have done better?

    @Randinho:
    Walcott, Walcott’d as he usually does, but, his brace was a good example of being in the right place at the right time, and finishing it. I saw the final score before I watched so…not as hard on my constitution as many a game. And, Xhakha got his customary red card, but, rather harsh—you’d think he was playing in La Liga;)
    But, I caught up on the Dortmund vs Hertha Berlin game, which I had recorded from Friday, which was quite a cracker: end to end for much of the game, and two straight reds at the end of the game with the kids loosing there temper (BVB ave age is ~22.5, and Berlin isn’t much higher). Pulisic did well in the first half, leaving (National teammate) Brooks on the ground with one great mazy run (but then fluffed the final pass as both teams were doing all game).
    Now just trying to decide to see my local team for their last home game Sunday afternoon, with no hope of playoffs (e.g. San José Earthquakes lost the previous game and are eliminated from the MLS playoffs)…in the rain:(
