Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Republicans in disarray!

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

Fight them, without becoming them!

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

“The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.”

Shut up, hissy kitty!

Everything is totally normal and fine!!!

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

They punch you in the face and then start crying because their fist hurts.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

Everybody saw this coming.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Fear or fury? The choice is ours.

Petty moves from a petty man.

People identifying as christian while ignoring christ and his teachings is a strange thing indeed.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

Late Night WATB Open Thread: “RIGGED!”

This post is in: Election 2016, Hail to the Hairpiece, Republican Stupidity, Republican Venality, I wish a motherfucker would!

FacebookTweetEmail

Hillary Clinton should have been prosecuted and should be in jail. Instead she is running for president in what looks like a rigged election

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 15, 2016

This is the first, Saturday-night-rude version of what will probably be several posts on Lord Smallfinger Shitgibbon’s latest hate-mongering performance skits. Sometimes only a satirist can do justice to the essential meanness (as in: lack of quality or attractiveness; shabbiness) of Donald Trump…

HILLARY: "Rigged." What a joke. You fuckin' coward.
TRUMP: Ya rigged it, Hill!
HILLARY: I rigged your body to paw women for 50 years?
TRUMP:

— Owen Ellickson (@onlxn) October 15, 2016

HILLARY: You're a monster and a fraud, but the thing that gets me is the LAZINESS. You don't do the work.
TRUMP: 'Cause of how rigged it is!

— Owen Ellickson (@onlxn) October 15, 2016

TRUMP: Just 'cause you're gonna beat me–
HILLARY: I ALREADY beat you, dope. The early voting gap's insurmountable. Know why? My team WORKED

— Owen Ellickson (@onlxn) October 15, 2016

TRUMP: Keep it up and I'll say–
HILLARY: You'll say whatever you'll say. The armchair angry boys will squawk & squawk. We workers will work

— Owen Ellickson (@onlxn) October 15, 2016

And futhermore…

You can't debunk "rigged" because it doesn't mean anything. Some just mean the media is biased. Some mean nonwhites are voting. https://t.co/WC7DkcSyE0

— Josh Barro (@jbarro) October 15, 2016

Jeff Sessions: “They are attempting to rig this election"

— Holly Bailey (@hollybdc) October 15, 2016

Sessions probably thinks all elections are rigged, that they have been since 1965, & they will be until the Voting Rights Act is repealed

— Dana Houle (@DanaHoule) October 15, 2016

Does casting aspersions on the legitimacy of our democracy fall outside the Speech and Debate clause? Asking for a friend. https://t.co/ZPo5YwZc5N

— Wyeth Ruthven (@wyethwire) October 15, 2016

Mainstream GOP is all-in on the claim that Clinton's a crook, so they'll have a hard time staying off the rigged election bandwagon.

— Matthew Yglesias (@mattyglesias) October 15, 2016

doesn't telling supporters election-is-rigged amount to a DO-NOT-GOTV program?

— John Harwood (@JohnJHarwood) October 15, 2016

Trump doesn’t know how to win. This is all about saving face. It became sinister when Bannon added Protocols of the Elders of Zion to it. https://t.co/vdtr7DGoco

As for me, I’m fine with them thinking it’s rigged. Yeah it could be nasty. But it does mean that they won’t be making any adjustments necessary to become competitive in presidential elections. Trump’s campaign really set them back in that regard. They absolutely refuse to broaden their appeal into the suburbs let alone the cities. Let alone rural areas where there are large segments of African Americans and Latinos.

“Rigged,” you lying motherfuckers? The only thing that’s been rigged has been the rigging of the game in YOUR favor.

Actually, Trump doesn’t know how to operate when he can’t rig things. In the 80s and 90s his ‘supporters’ were the nyc-centered media outlets. Media was mostly dominated by NYC then, and he knew how to work them to construct and control his image. By feeding them and and pressuring them indirectly through connections and sometimes directt threats. That’s why he was “Teflon” (their word for him until the end of this summer). It wasn’t some magic power of his charisma, as they made it sound. It was his connections at NBC and at People Mag etc who he knew how to work. These supporters werent poor rural people without enough education to see clearly. They were wealthy NBC executives and influential magazine and news editors and other people he could use to get his story out the way he wanted, and also use to hide the ugly parts. These guys knew and helped him hide the ugliness, because he and they shared power. That’s the story that the press is mostly avoiding while blaming only the people at his rallies.

@hovercraft: Trump will not do the right thing — he never has. He is a stupid misogynist vindictive entitled rich asshole, and he will insist that he is really the “winner.” If the election is at all close, we could see intermittent violence, I can imagine the National Guard being called out in some states. If the election is the landslide we all want it to be, I don’t know what happens. Thinking about the Republicans (fucking Jeff Sessions) makes me so angry I can’t even put it into words. I’m hoping that Trump’s vindictiveness extends to the Republican leadership; let them fight off Steve Bannon and the alt right nutjobs for a while, meanwhile Hillary Clinton and the Democrats can try to put the country back together again. I am not feeling good about any of this tonight.

@divF: My only experience with LH’s business class was several years ago but at that time they were committed to keeping a fairly large gap in the hard product between first and business, so for example no fully flat bed in business, less features in the AVOD system, etc. I think that Emirates and the other ME3’s philosophy of throwing everything but the kitchen sink at business class may have caused them to reevaluate their business class product. Still, it was a perfectly nice flight and I didn’t find connection at FRA to be bad at all.

@redshirt: Yeah — I don’t know either. It seems to be part of Trump’s persona that he needs constant stimulus, so the minute the attention seems to lag he’ll come up with something new and explosive to say. I expect that to continue. I think he’ll keep playing to his base and I hope that that base will keep growing smaller as women peel away. It boggles my mind that he has any women voting for him, and I think that number could get very small. I also think the millennials who appear to support him now will get pressured by peers to dump him as he grows more and more outrageous. They may not vote for Clinton but they may choose not to vote. And I really hope as this keeps happening that he drags the down ticket races with him.

Once the election is over, he’s going to have the nasty surprise that his followers never gave a rat’s ass about him personally, they just wanted a presidential candidate who would say all the mean racist shit they like. When he can’t deliver the presidency, they will forget him instantly.

    @Lizzy L:

If the election is at all close, we could see intermittent violence, I can imagine the National Guard being called out in some states.

Rest easy. Remember that being superficial posturers is the entire Republican definition of strength. Do you think Trump will pick up a gun or a bomb? Neither will his followers. There may be a tiny handful who will try a small-scale terrorist act, and most of them will get caught. For the most part, they’re lazy assholes who are always the first to yell for someone else to rise up in rebellion. The few who are actually ready to fight, like the militias, are wildly disorganized. Violence of a level to require the national guard is not going to happen.

I guess you might get a militia or two holing up in their bunker and declaring that they’re now the real America, but I don’t think that’s what you’re referring to.

Of course it is rigged. How else to explain how a fascist pig got the nomination of a major political party?

There’s been a lot of speculation about what Trump’s supporters will do if he loses. Although I don’t expect to find out about that, I am curious about what Clinton’s supporters will do if Trump wins. I can’t imagine sitting quietly while Trump wrecks the country. A five or ten million person march (on Washington) might be in order. If you want to know what kind of a reception millions of anti-Trump protesters would get in DC, think either Selma or, more likely, Germany in the thirties.

IF Trump had any brains at all he would grouse about the results a little bit but stop short of inciting violence. The GOP will play the perfect Weimar role and try to ignore him completely, setting up the rigged/stabbed in the back narrative that Trump can grift for years.

If he tries to make a stand on Election Day, he and the rest of the world will realize that it’s all a bunch of old white guys calling for violence. They won’t make it past the Walmart parking lot when the local sheriff will talk some sense into them and (since they’re white) give them the chance to stand down and go back home. Donald’s Revolt will end before it starts, and he will lose the chance to bleed the marks of their cash over the next several years.
