Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Republicans would impeach Biden if he bit into a whole Kit Kat rather than breaking the sections apart.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

I’m more Christian than these people and I’m an atheist.

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

I’m sure you banged some questionable people yourself. We’re allowed to grow past that.

If you are in line to indict donald trump, stay in line.

Do not shrug your shoulders and accept the normalization of untruths.

Fight for a just cause, love your fellow man, live a good life.

I’m just a talker, trying to find a channel!

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

American History and Black History can not be separated.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

They think we are photo bombing their nice little lives.

Republicans choose power over democracy, every day.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

The lights are all blinking red.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Spilling the end game before they can coat it in frankl luntz-approved dogwhistles.

I have PHI v WAS or CIN at NE.
I want both to lose the former and doubt very much CIN can win the latter. So I guess we’ll see.

Then the afternoon listing is DAL at GB. Which I dearly want DAL to lose and think the Pack have a shot at making that happen.

Go Pats! Not the best start so far though. Cincy’s defense is getting pressure on Brady, which is the key to defeating the Pats.

The worst thing about the Rams moving back to Los Angeles is that now they have to show the Rams game in Los Angeles.

    Hey Betty, hows the injury?

Loved Donalds newest spew of tweets.

Donald Trump on Sunday ripped Alec Baldwin’s impression of the Republican presidential nominee on “Saturday Night Live” and called for the show to be canceled.

So after he’s President, right after he throws Hillary in jail, his next executive action will be canceling a tv show that made fun of him. Priorities!

    October 16, 2016 at 2:24 pm

@Shell: I thought his top priority was gutting centuries of slander and libel laws to make it so that if he files a libel or slander lawsuit, you go right past the entire boring, unnecessary “court of law” part and straight to the “send money to Donald from your barracks in the KZ” part.

  27. 27.

    Davebo

    October 16, 2016 at 2:57 pm

    @redshirt:

It’s a popular way to convince voters. Don’t worry, it’s just hotels and rental car users that will pay the tax. In Vegas, it will work as people will always visit Vegas.

In Houston, the increases are one of the factors in the city’s convention business dropping. Oddly enough, one of the answers the city came up with was to invest public funds in a Hilton next to the convention center.

Hasn’t helped. Then again, being smack dab between San Antonio and New Orleans hasn’t helped either.

  28. 28.

    Davebo

    October 16, 2016 at 2:59 pm

@MobiusKlein: It’s actually worse than that.

It’s taxing people who likely could care less for the team being they are from out of town. If taxes must be raised, why not a tax on game tickets? Parking? Concessions?

  29. 29.

    Villago Delenda Est

    October 16, 2016 at 3:06 pm

@Davebo: How about an income tax increase for NFL owners?

OK, totally lost my mind there.

    October 16, 2016 at 3:11 pm

@Davebo: Oh, I agree, stadium deals are usually poison for the city/state that does them. Ask St. Louis.

But this deal seems pretty fair to me.

  31. 31.

    Davebo

    October 16, 2016 at 3:14 pm

@Villago Delenda Est: Obviously you have!

Obviously I’d prefer the owners pony up for their own stadium but we all know that’s not going to happen.

Still, unlike the Olympics one can’t deny the economic impact an NFL franchise brings to a city, especially if they can snag a super bowl every now and then.

    October 16, 2016 at 3:26 pm

@Davebo: Not always, but this is a big deal for Vegas. And given the nature of the city, taxing hotels is a great way to pay for it.

  34. 34.

    Davebo

    October 16, 2016 at 3:26 pm

@redshirt: I’m not sure I’d say fair. $750 million has to be a record for public funding of a stadium. Over $150 million more than Atlanta coughed up.

Every one can root for whoever they want to root for in any sporting event.

There are nut jobs in every community in the US. Maybe someone should have sent a photo of the group kneeling outside of New Era field (formerly Ralph Wilson Stadium) in support of Kaepernick as well.

The rooting for a team is separate from those vile shirts. I do not ever condone violence for any reason. I am not the only one who is of like mind here.
Leading up to this game, there were examples being touted against Kaepernick. I spoke up against them and they were never implemented.

I have been against the treatment of people of color since I was a child. I have never lost that feeling.
