Well, we survived the first day…notice that gate is not attached to anything. Love Danes, they generally respect boundaries, no matter how temporary they might be.
They’re doing pretty well together. I didn’t want to turn this into my own personal pet diary – you can read more about them here if you are so inclined. But I thought the photos of them getting along so well would be enough to ease us into the week. One day down.
Open thread.

We went away for the weekend and I managed to overdo it with my cold, because now I’m totally sacked out on the couch. I didn’t even have the energy to track down the Broadway for Hillary broadcast. Maybe tomorrow.
Mathguy
They look great together.

@Mnemosyne: Dr, Tiny cat advises lots of rest and hot fluids.

One day of many fun filled days. Lots of adjustments for everybody, no doubt.

Who’s a good pony?

Wow, they are such beautiful dogs. Love the action pic on top.

Unless I’m hallucinating, Bailey seems almost as large as Bixby, despite the age difference.

@schrodinger’s cat:
I walked way more than I should have and probably drank more alcohol than was strictly good for me. I’m pretty close to being a non-drinker, so the fact that I had 1 drink per day (and 2 on Saturday!) was kind of a big deal for me. But it was still fun and good for us to have a weekend away together.
It didn’t help that I slept really poorly both nights, probably because I’m still pretty congested from the cold.
TaMara (HFG)
@Mnemosyne: Here it is in progress, maybe they’ll replay it later.

Feel better.

@Adam L Silverman:
My mom had a Dane she hoped to show. I and my two brothers used to ride him around like a horse. I guess we drove him nuts, because he found a better forever home after about a year.

So cute together. I’m melting, I’m melting….
TaMara (HFG)
@debbie: I haven’t weighed her yet, but she can’t be 100lbs yet. She won’t be as heavy as he is, but she might just be taller. She’s an American Dane and he’s a Euro Dane – little shorter and bigger chest – she’s taller and leaner.
You can really see how they are (ancient) Mastiff/Greyhound cross when you see them together, he leans toward the Mastiff side of the equation, she leans toward the Greyhound side of the family.

Time for GOTV. Folks have made up their minds — time to bank the votes. Sign up to help out — we need literally everyone.

@debbie: I’m sorry. I was only kidding about the pony thing. They are beautiful dogs. But if I’m adopting a dog that big, I’m going all in:

Terrifying.

@efgoldman: I was wondering if there is a Brexit Dane – Probably named Canute. BTW from John Dickersons Twitter feed:

Pardon me if any front pagers have mentioned this, but has anyone commented on Julian Assange getting his internet access cut off for alleged online pedophilia?

This can’t go viral enough. Please help make it so.

@Cacti: I don’t really see a reason to jump on this yet. As we noted below, the proof that that was the reason is from a source that no one seems to know.

@Keith G:
Cool. That tracks with my extremely brief, informal, and unscientific observations earlier today.
John Cole
I’m pretty ok with you making this your pet diary.
Mnemosyne
So I’m going to a writing conference in March and I’ve managed to back myself into a corner by saying I’ll have a manuscript ready by then for editors and agents to potentially see. A 100,000 word manuscript.
Yikes.
(It’s not as bad as it first sounds — I have about 10K words written and a pretty complete outline. Still, it’s intimidating to know that I have an actual deadline.)

@Cacti:
I saw a few comments about it in earlier threads, but nothing Front-Paged.

@John Cole:
Speaking of which, it’s been a while since we’ve seen anything of Lily, Rosie, Thurston, or Steve. And I think I speak for thousands of us when I observe that we could use a Walter update from Debit.
Adam L Silverman
@Cacti: A commenter hit it in the previous thread. Its only an allegation at this point. I was going to take tonight off, but just saw something and so there’s a new post to get everyone riled up.

@BR: and if you are free election weekend, stop by Arizona. We’d love to have you here. From the warmth of Phoenix and Tucson to the chill of mountainous Flagstaff.
Contact your local Hillary campaign office for details.
You’ll come back now, ye hear !

@Adam L Silverman: That first one: She might be cold, that dog is never cold.
Aleta
Isn’t she just gorgeous. Trotting along in the sun; looks so happy; looks like she’s flowing.
Adam L Silverman
@catclub: Nope. They were bred to protect herds in the high passes of the mountain kingdoms of the Himalayas against snow leopards and other threats.
rikyrah
They look so good together? Bailey is home.
I miss Walter updates.
Achrachno
@Adam L Silverman: You’re sure that’s a dog? Looks more like a haystack.
Anne Laurie
@TaMara (HFG): I was gonna say you can really see the sighthound genes in Bailey! She’s gorgeous, as is Bixby, in his own more macho way.
Hope every day in her future (& yours) is as least as happy as today was!
satby
Congrats on the new arrival, TaMara!

@Adam L Silverman: As long as you’re prepared to deal with the grooming requirements! Can’t speak to Tibetan Mastiffs particularly, but ‘spitz type’ (or ‘northern’) dogs usually have dense double coats that need regular attention. Whatever the breed books may claim, they do shed year-round, and still retain enough to make the annual spring molt a real spectacle… I have seen a Malamute owner remove a grocery sack worth of loose fur within a few minutes, and that was after several similar comb-outs.
On the other hand, if you’ve ever wanted to spin your own wool, I’m told spitz hair is a prime commodity…
TaMara (HFG)
@rikyrah: I agree, this blog needs more Walter.
Adam L Silverman
@Achrachno: Its a dog. The dog that walks like a house. With fur.
Adam L Silverman
@Anne Laurie: My black lab/shepherd mix sheds like that. I can furminate her, brush her, and then vacuum and five minutes later I’ve got several dogs worth of hair everywhere.

I can’t see the pictures. iPad. Every time I go to this thread the pic starts to load, then blanks. I have sometimes seem the top of the photo before it goes away. I am sad. Do not understand the tech reason for this and can see other pics on this blog now and have seen TaMara’s pics and videos in the past.
debbie
@Gvg:
That happened on my iPad mini. I reloaded and they showed up.
