Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

There is no compromise when it comes to body autonomy. You either have it or you don’t.

I was promised a recession.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

He seems like a smart guy, but JFC, what a dick!

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

Dead end MAGA boomers crying about Talyor Swift being a Dem is my kind of music. Turn it up.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

Let’s show the world that autocracy can be defeated.

Ron DeSantis, the grand wizard, oops, governor of FL.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

The frogs are rarely mistaken.

We know you aren’t a Democrat but since you seem confused let me help you.

…and a burning sense of injustice to juice the soul.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

“The defense has a certain level of trust in defendant that the government does not.”

The gop is a fucking disgrace.

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

Following reporting rules is only for the little people, apparently.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Let’s finish the job.

…and damn proud of it.

Un-fucking believable

I missed that exchange because life got in the way (had I not intervened, there would have been blood)

This “nasty” woman (that’s Miss T, if you’re nasty) will be proudly casting her vote for Hillary Clinton tomorrow.

well this was a video arcade debate… I kept thinking “body blow, body blow… finish him” while I was listening..

abortion – fervent defense of Roe Vs. Wade
debt – even the debt hawks say Trumps plan is worse than Clintons and he didn’t defend his worth a fuck
jobs in America – pointed out that while Donald Trumps creates jobs, he fucks over american businesses… whammo Chinese steel
laws/governance – infantile idea that Clinton should have fixed all of those laws… nevermind that in the last 20 years, we’ve had 2 years of total Dem control and those years were spent digging the country out of the biggest financial crisis of the last 90 years
undocumented workers – yeah Donald, you should stfu
foreign policy/Russia – didn’t give a fuck that he asked the Russians to sabotage the election process.. I think Hillary finally shamed the fucking media about it
the sanctity of the American electoral process – we’ll see… WE’LL SEE? yeah, we’ll see how that goes won’t we
    nasty woman – yeah… you’re fucked.

I’ve seen her speak to a small (CSPAN) audience and she came across as quite bright, but the ditzy, more-or-less pretty, rightwing Suzanne Sommers caricature in Judy Jetson miniskirts talking about the Clenis got her the attention of Bill Maher and Geraldo Rivera twenty years ago

    @hovercraft:
    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/08/22/steve-bannon-trump-s-top-guy-told-me-he-was-a-leninist.html

I met Steve Bannon—the executive director of Breitbart.com who’s now become the chief executive of the Trump campaign, replacing the newly resigned Paul Manafort—at a book party held in his Capitol Hill townhouse in early 2014. We were standing next to a picture of his daughter, a West Point graduate, who at the time was a lieutenant in the 101 Airborne Division serving in Iraq. The picture was notable because she was sitting on what was once Saddam Hussein’s gold throne with a machine gun on her lap. “I’m very proud of her,” Bannon said.
Then we had a long talk about his approach to politics. He never called himself a “populist” or an “American nationalist,” as so many think of him today. “I’m a Leninist,” Bannon proudly proclaimed.
Shocked, I asked him what he meant.
“Lenin,” he answered, “wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.” Bannon was employing Lenin’s strategy for Tea Party populist goals. He included in that group the Republican and Democratic Parties, as well as the traditional conservative press.

Hillary Clinton’s 3 debate performances left the Trump campaign in ruins
Donald Trump didn’t just destroy himself. Hillary Clinton destroyed him.
Updated by Ezra Klein Oct 19, 2016, 11:58p

The third and final presidential debate has ended, and it can now be said: Hillary Clinton crushed Donald Trump in the most effective series of debate performances in modern political history……….

This is not normal. As Andrew Prokop concluded in his review of the political science evidence around presidential debates, “There’s little historical evidence that they’ve ever swung polls by more than a few percentage points.” In this case, they did. And it’s because Clinton executed a risky strategy flawlessly.

The dominant narrative of this election goes something like this. Hillary Clinton is a weak candidate who is winning because she is facing a yet weaker candidate. Her unfavorables are high, her vulnerabilities are obvious, and if she were running against a Marco Rubio or a Paul Ryan, she would be getting crushed. Lucky for her, she’s running against a hot orange mess with higher unfavorables, clearer vulnerabilities, and a tape where he brags about grabbing women “by the puzzy.”

There’s truth to this narrative, but it also reflects our tendency to underestimate Clinton’s political effectiveness. Trump’s meltdown wasn’t an accident. The Clinton campaign coolly analyzed his weaknesses and then sprung trap after trap to take advantage of them.
